Ok so I'm drivin down the street, in my 89 se fastback, wit a slow ass verizon truck in front of me he finally turns I get on it and get up to a suitable speed for the road I'm on and as I'm shifting from fourth to fifth my revs shoot up and bounce off the rev limiter (thank god or I'd be motor shoppin wit no money) so I try messin wit the gas pedal tryin to get it to unstick but that did nothing then I try putting it in gear and that was almost suicide as the car took off like a bat out of hell so I killed the motor and was lucky enough to be able to coast home and park it and have a car to drive to work. So anyone have ideas as to what it could be I haven't had time to really look at it

i fyour throttle linkage did not stick then i would clean the throttle body with some carb cleaner and a wire brush.

the same thing happened to my '91 sileighty. it turned out that one of the two screws that hold the butterfly plate in place inside the throttle body came loose and dissapeared. with only one screw the butterfly plate would jiggle out of place and get stuck open. i replaced the throttle body but I could have just used a new screw.

it could also be your linkage or IAC valve.
