hey guys im finally upgrading my setup
for guys who know me they know i have every bolt on imaginable including pullies, intake mani etc. im running 550's with safc2 and a wideband to tune my afrs. engine is sr20 btw
here are my options
pulsar gti-r t28
gt2871r .64 a/r
FP 20g
gt2540
i want to make 325 whp at around 16-18psi.
the gti-r turbo is rebuildable and has been proven to 325 whp but not much more.and makes gobs or torque
the gt2871r is expensive but i am often disappointed with the .64 a/r's
number s for the price.
the fp 20 is new and is a beast of a turbo, but im just questioning the practicality. its also rebuildable
and the 2540 is also a beast its the same as a gt2876. not many people run this one
what do u think is most practical for me.
car will be used for mostly road racing, but id like it to be mid 12's also.
input?

a GT2540R with a a/r 86 is about the same as 2871R with a a/r 64 but with better top end. i had one before blown it up.

I had 20g on my Eclipse and its a great Turbo. Now for the FP 20g being set for high boost I dont think it's safe unless your engine is built for it.I also have a GTI-R T28 and works awesone. Practical turbo for me is to stay on the journal bearing just because of the rebuild cost. It would be the GTi-R T28 or the FP Big T28. FP Big T28 is an excellent sleeper turbo for it will externally look like an T25.

you should see 360-370 at 15-16psi, i make 370/

safc2 is fine for a peak power number.....but stand alone is what you want. not only can you adjust air fuels, but your powerband with a standalone will kick the powerbands ass of an safc2 because you can adjust other important things such as timing. by adjusting timing you can make the turbo kick in faster and produce much more torque as well as hp throughout your total rpms. you'll make your peak power around 6-7k, but in a race you're not staying at 6-7k, so what does 6-7k matter when 3,000 to 6000 sux.....?
safc2 may make the magical hp number you're seeking, but a powerfc or aem ems etc etc etc will make your magical number and then some and give you an easy 10-20 more horsepower through low,mid and top end which will definately be noticeable on a road coarse.....if you're gonna do it, do it right. gl, the 28/71 may be more practical for you since it's still a t28 flange so you won't need a manifold etc etc etc, i have a friend with a 20g + safc2, his car makes 350 supposedly but it doesn't wake up till 4k. i like the garrett's , sp's are nice as well

the 20G for the price is almost the same as 2871/3076 and spools later (more lag) though not by much. i just have a hard time justifying that kinda money on inferior technology(not ball bearing). although i am seriously condiering it too. i would really like togo gt30 series but i cant afford a new manifold, cams, valve springs, ras, injectors, tune and turbo whereas with the others i could just bolt it on and tune. what to do

I have the 20g on my SR and DSM is right, it is a good turbo but FP is still working out kinks in it, it is a bit laggy, and it lives in the high boost range,. So if you want to use its efficiency range beef up your motor. For road racing go with a smaller, more responsive faster spooling turbo like the .64 2871r. You can more than enough power from the .64 it all depends on the setup and tuning. And the price isnt too much different.

alright thanks guys yea with more research
im between the fp big t28 and
.64 gt2871.
they seem to fit me best although i dont like the fact that the fp big t28 is in a t25 housing kinda seems ineefficient to me to have that big of a turbine in that small of a housing

yea i know the benefits of stand alone and they're amazing but for 325 rwhp i just dont find it practical. it sucks that piggyback cant do timing btu oh well,
i tune my car myself and get my afr's spot on. i plan on eproming my ecu and running a custom map when my final setup is complete and thats when ill hack into the timing issue.

:rawk: for mid 12s for sure you can make it with the gt2540. my buddy has a 2530+ ecu and 555 and was clocking 12.2s all day up in the high desert out here in in kali. id go 2540 with a good tune its a nice streetable turbo but deadly at the same time:rl:
