i'm having a hard time choosing a turbo. i'm looking for 375 rwhp and something not to big. the car is used for drifting but does get daily driven in the summer.
right now i'm looking at the tomei turbos
the b7652 is identical to the hks gt-rs.
the b8446 is what i was leaning towards but i havn't found anyone running this turbo currently. and if i were to go with this setup what cams would you guys recommend? maybe 270? in/ex.
the b9446 is somewhat similar to the hks gt2835 i believe.

I'd recommend Forced Performance 20g turbo or the FP big T28. Fast spool it's within your power range. It's a little cheaper to buy and rebuild in the future. GT turbos are great too just giving you another option to consider.

Dont buy anything from Forced Performance! I bought the 20g for my Redtop SR after they specifically told me it was bolt on, and it wasnt. The stock oil feed and the water lines dont work. The compressor outlet was hitting my exhaust mani. so i had to clock it and drill a new pin hole. The drain flange uses different bolts and the holes dont line up. You also need an s14/15 style inlet and outlet pipe. Actually nothing bolted up.:tweak: For all this trouble go with a topmount setup for more power because to be honest it dosnt pull much harder than my T25. Also their customer service sucks. I called about the issues and they said to send them pics so they could fix it, i did and they never responded and they dont pick up the phone since they have my # on caller ID.:fawk2: Last time i ever do business with them and i dont want others to get yanked so im putting it out there!

That sucks you had such bad experiences. Being exposed to the DSM crowd as this turbo has done wonders on the 4G63. In regards to the lines you have to understand that this turbos are Mitsu's and not Garrett and it will be different.

No doubt im with you 100%, thats not what im upset about. I actually seen many people running 20g's on DSM's which is why i wanted one cus they've made some good #'s. What im upset about is that they werent honest with me, they told me on many phone conversations it was pretty much bolt on except for the oil feed and it wasnt even close. Im not one against modifyning things to make them work in fact i love it. Its just now im in school and work full time and dont have the time which is why i wanted something almost bolton. And the worst part is that thet dont even try to help and they ignore your emails and phone calls. Its like once they have your money your on your own, and im not the only one they did this to on this forum. The turbo does rock but you need to run high boost and spend more time and money to make it work than a topmount setup that will net more power!

Get a 2871R.64 or.86. If that isn't quite enough power, get the 3071R. Garret GT Turbos are well worth the money IMO. Great turbos. There is actually one posted in the For Sale forum brand new and Ceramic coated for $1000.

if you can get the hks gtrs equivalent you can go with that. if not, go with the 2871 .64. cams, you wouldnt need too big, 256/256 would be fine. people usually think bigger is better and go with the 264/264. 270s are overkill and would not be optimal for your wants/needs

there is no need really(to pay so much more) when 3071r is the same except for the AR (68 vs 63)

the turbos you are comparing have different characteristics. match your application with the type of driving you plan on doing and the car setup. eq power band, whp and tq goals, and drivability.
then you narrow it down from there. i ve used all the turbos you mentioned, and they are all great, but i ditched them and have settle for one that is suitable for my application. you have to find your purpose of the ride to somewhat have a reasonable educated decision.

there is a difference!!!
no matter what they say and what you read. there is a difference.
used both of them. look very identical, also because its a garrett turbo.
you can call garrett up and they will tell you its the same. call HKS USA up they will tell you its almost the same with some in house technology that they wouldnt even know.
but there is a difference.
PS. i not justifying that the extra dollars is worth it, but the difference is worth the option.

run something along the lines of a GT30R with some 256 camshafts and you should be fine.

gt3071r with a 86 is, 2871 86 vs 3071 63 is rather close call, I haven't looked in a while to be able to say.

if you ask me and your set on staying with the t25 stock location internal gate
if your looking for big power out of your t25, GT3071RWG gt30 sizing in a t t25 package 450hp turbo
if your looking for moderate power and nice spool ect.... GT2860RS 350ish hp turbo
GARRETT makes just about every turbo on earth, many many many, companies take garrett center sections and cast their own housings and label them their own, then they mark them up and in turn you could have gotten it cheaper from garrett

only thing i have to disagree with is if you plan to go with ANY GT30 series turbo, you best be upgrading to t3 flange as the little t25 is restrictive.

im using a TIAL GT2871R with the stainless exhaust housing, get it. spools fast bad ass response and makes well over 400whp. doesnt act like a normal garret 2871 at all. waaay better. get it.
