so this weekend i got tired of my saggy Silvia bumper so i ordered a generic bumper support thru the shop ($35 brand new!) cut the life out of it, saved like 10lbs and my FMIC can still breathe! I was so happy with my new ground clearance i decided to rivet my lip on. very very easy and super strong.
Step one-plug in sauntering iron on hottest setting.
Step two- use something to hold lip in desired location.
Step three- poke a hole straight thru the lip and the bumper with iron (make sure rivets are a little bigger than the iron)
step four- Rivet away & repeat as necessary.
i know it sounds ghetto but it beats trying to squeeze a drill under your car with a jack and way more accurate.
Im trying out those E-bay suspension components (RUCA, Toe, Traction & tie) they look solid and all fit perfect, but as i was taking off the stock Traction rod the bolt on the subframe was frozen and it snapped in half... on both sides so i havnt had a chance to put the car on the ground. So while waiting for the bolts form Nissan i figured id do the Z32 brakes i had laying around for ever. I also realized how terrible my subframe bushing are, i could move my subframe up and down by hand ( i blame a lot of it on the welded diff and daily driving on it :-/ ).
Today i received my box from 240SXmotoring.com and wow they're fast i ordered my subframe collars and brake lines at like 3pm yesterday and i got them right after lunch today, ground shipping. Being like half a state over helps too.
Here are the old pics ive got of the progress so far.
1/3 of a bumper support is working well, as is hte rivit on lip

generic bumper support? neve heard of it. Where did you get it?

10-24-2007, 09:07 PM
i work at a body shop, so we have a generic parts dealer we get everything wholesale through. They make cheap (cosmetic) chinese replacement parts for just about everything. When i ordered the bumper support they said it was the last one left, when i got it it had about a 1/4 inch of dust on it. I washed it off and it looked brand new.
Ill get some pics tonight im 3/4th way done with collar install, ive gotta say prob the easiest suspension mod ive ever done. I rounded the passenger side far rear nut on the subframe pretty bad. Other than that it all went smooth as butter, my bushings were so shot i got the two rear top collars in with out even loosening the bolt.
The lines were a cake walk too, Ive gotta drill out the rotors tomorrow and my bolts should be coming from the nissan dealer.
Pics later i left my phone outside.

thanks to everyone for the support.
havnt really gotten anything done, had a crazy halloween weekend in the city.
I did manage to get some work done sunday night. I pried the dust shields off the front spindles (PITA).
I finally got a turbo socket to get the nut i rounded off the subframe.
Also loaded up the calipers and put them off to the side.
The bolts finally came in from nissan and i slapped those on, so all of the new shiny suspension components are on.
All thats left now is to get that last subframe collar on, rotors drlled and bleed the brakes and then the moment of truth, Alignment time.
I had like -4 (driver) -3.2 (Passenger) camber in the rear before. not by choice, just super dead Ruca arms. Also toeing out almost 1 full degree on both sides in the rear!!! fucking nuts..the subframe bushings were so dead i could move the subframe up or down almost a inch with a prybar.
Anyone else use these motorolla (w.e theyre called) suspension pieces from e-bay? Is it me or do they A LOT like the SPL stuff?
Alignment wise this is what im thinking.
-3.3-3.5 up front
-3 rear
toe out the rear less than 0.5 still undecided, i figure a little toe out will make the welded diff a little less harsh.
mucho caster up front
Ive got good news and bad news...bad news is no new pics of the progess i made. Good news is that i finnaly got a decent camera and tested it out this weekend. work place safe. :naughty:

ive got pics with a rotor on..and thats about it, the stupid machine shop didnt center it right so it goes on funny and when i tighten it down with the wheel and try to spin it by hand it rubs the pads i guess and shows rezistance..

Next up is hopefully a Status Seat and a Carbonteics (ats) carbon diff, if i ever stop being lazy and get my ass up to Canada.
Overall to-do list:
-Fix gypsy flex-a-pipe hot pipe
-Get a FPR and some kind of tune. More Boost!
-30mm rear over fenders + spacers
-New hood
-Return wideband..shit broke
-R compound tires :rawk:
-Dont get arrested by any means.
-Pay off lawyer..:-/
I should get the car on the ground and see what problems she gives me before i go and count my chickens. As of now the only problem im anticipating is the rear tires rubbing with more + camber and a super harsh heim joint/solid subframe ride. As long as the car dosnt shake its self apart i should be good.

sick, so the car has been at the alignment place since yesterday, apparntly they were too busy yesterday to do it (scared of non-factory alignment specs) and today they made me get out of bed (ive got the flu) drive up there and take the bumper off because the car is too low and the bumper blocks the alignment lazers. After 3 min with a 10mm socket, the bumper is off and they tell me they wont have a chance to get the alignment done today either..
ugh. i need an alignment machine.

Im now 100% what i want to go with yet, i want them to get the car on the machine first and i want to see where im at how it sits.
But if im anywhere around where i think it is im prob gonig to run something along these lines
Front Camber -3.3-3.5
7-8 caster
0 toe all around maybe less than 0.5 toe out rear, ive gotta see how i feel about it
Rear Camber -3-3.2
ill let everyone know final numbers when i get the car back tonight.
I can tell you just from slowly driving the car from my house to the alignment shop pulling super hard to the left the rear feels NICE, no more slop in the suspension it feels more firm and responsive. i like it, such a cock tease, i need my car back NOW!!!!

nevaland9
11-08-2007, 06:54 AM
alright...so i got the car back and this is what ive got
-3 camber front
-3.4 camber rear
-0.1 toe rear
7.5 caster
car feels soild..a little too solid my dying tranny sounds even closer to death now. heim joints+subframe collars=crazy ass sounds from the back of your car, and the fact that my rear wheels arnt balanced is crazy noticeable and even more so the faster you go. If you can keep your mind off the vibrating the car feels super planted, 0 wheel hop, i mean none. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear all the way down the street smooth as butter just mad amounts of correcting but its cool, super controllable and predictable. its going to take some getting used to and maybe some dynamatting but i think ill grow to love it even more, i think i might not have tightened the subframe down properly thus its making some unnecessary crazy sounds so im going to torque it down today.

I'm digging that colour dude!!
What paint did you use, it looks pretty sharp now.
Garage looks like a nice lil' workshop.
YOU ARE NOT A SLAVE--I don't get it but it looks sweet

the color is actually a Ralph Lauren color i picked off the wall at home depot. just give the guy the color and hell mix it up how ever you want. i needed it mixed as a self priming wood paint.
the only pic i could find
