how do i check if the turbo is going bad besides checking the shaft play?
is there any other way to check it?

if you're billowing smoke out of the tail pipe cause there's oil gushing out of the exhaust turbine. if you see oil all over the inducer wheel. if it kind of sounds like a power steering pump whining. if it's a small turbo and you don't make any boost till like 5,000rpm....

shit probably my turbo is bad then. well....if got a lot of smoke from exhaust, wouldnt it be headgasket as well? the other thing is mine is stock t25. before 4k rpm, like during 3k to 3500, i can hear the turbo sound and the blow off sound, but it feels like the car has a little bit hesitation. but around 4k rpm, i can feel the power again....so that might be the turbo?

the oil seal in the turbo's go out and it leaks oil into the exhaust manifold and billows bluish smoke like a mofo. if your idle sux, anti freeze was disapearing , car overheating, coolant hoses popping off from pressure, sweet smelling white cloud of smoke THAT would be a headgasket, due to too much boost or overheating. but it doesn't take but 2 12 millimeter bolts to take the inlet elbow off the front of the turbo and feel for shaft play or see if the turbine's been rubbing into the housing to see if your turbo's bad. t25 taking a shit is way more common than blowing your headgasket....

what other symptoms do you have. more information the better

well....the exhaust got white smoke coming out, the idle is good, the coolant is not disappearing, but the white smokes comes out like hell...the car acts like i described before, hesitation between 3k to 3500.
but i tested with a headgasket tester...its like a tube with blue fluid in there, stuck it into the radiator, and let the car run, if the fluid turns yellow, then the headgasket is bad...and the fuild did turn yellow when i tested it

Get a good metal one. It would only help plus its good to change anyways. and save up for an s15 turbo that way you shouldnt run into turbo problems either

:rl: also check the timing on your car if your timing is to retarted the turbo wont spool at all and it will get red and cause it to go bad thats a way of checking you will notice the difference right away.

the other day I was on the freeway and i step on the gas really hard (didn't red line at all)and a lot of smoke went inside the car , look through the rear mirror and a lot of blue smoke came out of exhaust , now I noticed that everytime I hit boost and let go of the gas smoke comes out if I don't boost there's no smoke,u guys think my turbo is bad
Things that Ivedone so far
Took spark plugs out and they look pretty good

It doesn't smoke at idle
It only smokes when I hit boost and let go of the gas and then if I step on the gas again it throws a bit of smoke and then it won't throw any smoke until I hit boost again

I think it's time for a turbo upgrade but I just want to make sure it's my turbo
Also oil and coolant level it's fine
Thanks guys

Really dude? Well.. I'm kind of stumped. I don't know whether I should be happy you bumped an old thread to ask your question that's been answered before, or would it have been better for you to start your own thread. Hmm...

Check your compression. If that's ok, chances are you blew the seals on your turbo.

Sounds like you could be having blow bye also. Do you have a catch can? Is there oil on the intake side of the turbo? How are your oil lines run off of the valve cover?

Yeah I have a catch can but I haven't noticed any oil by the intake

What country are you from? English is horrible!.... Anyways easy to replace if you know what you are doing...

Take off downpipe, take off all lines to turbo. Remove manifold with turbo and elbow.

Parts you need to get are new locking play, new nuts for turbo, and while you are at it get new turbo steel braided lines so you don't strip your block the next time you take it out.

Buy PBBlaster, cause chances are your nutz on your exhaust studs are frozen.... So take your time and don't snap stuff.... I would suggest using a flare nut wrench.... Other than that... spray lots of PB Blaster on it.... and good to go... Not hard...

O and don't worry about blow by....

or you could just pop off a piece of charge piping and look for lots of oil

If you don't got PB Blaster, get some penetrant, WD40 will work, just not that well....

Park your car, get out and look for where the smoke is coming from.

Get steel braided turbo lines!!!!! TAKA lines for sure.... Get a GT Oil restrictor.... Call it a day... Seriously, get Taka so you don't strip your block if you have to take it off again...

A lot of shaft play = turbo is toasted....

Buy new ones for SURE!!! NEVER use the old ones.

Get a NEW nut locking plae as well. The will say you lots of grief....GO to hardware now and get new nuts... Locking plates I am referring to is where the turbo connects to manifold. If those break lose you gotta pull the thing again....

So do yourself a favor get all new nuts and a new nut locking plate and install by flipping the tabs up to it holds the nutz and never let them spin. I pulled it 3 times because the nuts kept getting loose... Even locktite won't hold it cause of temp..

Phase2 has them all.
