happens all the time. florida gets hurricanes, and we get fires with a slight chance of earthquake

S13Leprechaun
10-21-2007, 07:50 PM
yeah, just wierd tho... i bet this is human negligence... hahhaha... that just reminded me of that radio commercial of that guy,''90% of fires are cause by human negligence''..haha... neway.

DreamN
10-21-2007, 08:07 PM
most likely was human negligence. wasn't hot enough for a fire to randomly start. the wind played a huge factor in setting ablaze countless other spots. embers being taken away by the wind pretty much pwned the firefighters.

Sucks Malibu lost the Castle it had. I was PCH Friday thinking "damn, I should check that place out one of these days" and 2 days later... gone.

Just to give you an update as of 10pm wescoast time, they believed it was caused by a spark from a power line, 1 dead, 4 fireman in hospital, 13 civilians injured, approximately 14,000+ acres burned, mandatory evacuation in Ramona, and there are still a few people at their homes waiting to fight off the fire. I was in La Jolla earlier today, I could see the ashes falling form the sky. Definately brings me back to the time when we had the Cedar fire.

it was crazyyy today, i was driving back from a weekend in vegas and traffic was horrible where the 215/15 meet all the way to the 210. The wind was insane! Big rigs were tipping over, my car was being pushed to the side, smoke was everywhere you looked. The wind was so crazy it even made a big rig buckle in the center, like the portion between the front and rear wheels of the trailer caved in and the entire thing collasped. All high profile vehicles were advised not to take the 15 because of the wind, i saw buses swaying ready to tip over, so they immediately pulled off the freeway. it was a crazy drive....

Grendel
10-22-2007, 12:21 AM
Wow thats pretty crazy... there was a huge fire in Ramona when I lived there back in 2003 or so.

I found this pic of the fires

I was passing through miramar for work when I saw all the smoke hovering. By the time I got to my second job in chula vista I saw the smoke from the hills in Jamul. This sucks because I don't know how much the air quality will be affected tomorrow and I have to drive up the 15N to get to san marcos.

I'm in the area by the "witch fire" in ramona. I live in escondido on the side by ramona.. lots of traffic rolling though. i specifically live in a valley and the other side of it, everyone is getting evacuated right now. i'm prolly gonna be next to leave if they start moving out people from escondido. im glad i got my 240.. lots of room for boxes and bags...

Id rather have Typhoons here in Okinawa than a fucking firestorm in socal. I remember when i was living in Temecula and fucking Pechanga almost burnt to the ground, that was literally a spitball away from my parents place. Also, 4 yrs ago when Mira Mesa was on fire, that shiet jumped across the 15 and started fires all over.

10-22-2007, 08:23 AM
News right now states that the whole northside of the 15 just pastt the 56 is closed. My school has been closed down today and the fires have created massive amounts of smoke. I saw the traffic cam footage and the sky is orange and gray. Hope you North County guys stay safe. Last night the winds were really kickin.

this stuff happens every year. and everyone acts the same like its new. it reminds me of people who build there homes too close to rivers and then it rains and floods their house... then everyone is like "wow we sure weren't expecting that..."

so you build your house on or near a dry brush hill, add the santa anas, throw in a careless cigarette. boom you got a brush fire. plus it was 83 in irvine yesterday.

heh.

Well I went to my friend's house and we tried to roll back through San Pasqual Road to check out the houses and such.. here are pic that I took while packing my car (the hill was about 1 mile away on the other side of the valley i live in)... and the last is of me in my friend's s14 driving back around the backway to get through roadblocks to see if my house and my neighbors houses are fine. for now its good, but the other side of the valley isnt looking too good. If you don't know the area, it's where all the nice houses are across from North County Fair Mall in North County San Diego.

WOW, I drove in yesterday back to L.A. from New Mexico and the grapevine (15 fwy) coming in was packed it took like 40 min. to pass, then there were dust storms on the 10 towards san bernadino, My car got hit with something that looked like BEACHWOOD or BARK in the middle of the freeway, I drove through a duststorm on the change and could barely even see. Also on the side of the 10 between the exit ramp, fwy., and overpass, there was even a small brushfire, that also slowed down traffice, I was like wtf is going on here? Yeah I haven't been watching the news.So now I know and hope everyone is ok. I'm in Hollywood so the hills are as close as it'll get, hope the winds die down and fires can be put out. the 10 has been jammed cause of pch shuttin' down too. jeez, crazy. Porter Ranch has been evacuated and Fillmore is threatened. If you look from my place towards downtown LA you cannot see the downtown its blocked out by what looks like fog but is actually smoke from Orange county and Arrowhead. I think they shoudl drop fuel air bombs on the bigger portions of fires.

the explosion will starve it of oxygen and instatly incinerate thes rest of th fuel that is brush, than have two tankers on stration to come right in immediatley and drop water on it.

you can fight fire with fire, so lets get more EXTREME haha

I'm still sticking around in escondido, but a lot of friends left for Temecula and places furthere north. On the news, I believe that a lot of escondido might be evacuated as well if it didn't already happen already.

Lakeside wasn't mandatory this afternoon, but when i picked up my trailer out there today.... every single truck out there had a trailer on it heading out somewhere. It is nothing but dry brush out there. It wouldn't take much to go up in smoke there. Santee and el cajon still okay, but south east of El Cajon i see glowing behind the mountains. Bad

thats wierd, they are evacuating people from father away than that.. like lakeside... anyone have word on the santo road fire, off the 52, whether its contained or big or whatever, lmk, cause the news stations here in ohio arent updating anything.. i cant find it anywhere.. so im wondering whats up witht aht cause thats near me... thanks.

Damn this shit really sucks. I cant even go to work today. I work in Marimar and my manager called saying not to come in.

I feel really bad for those who have to evacuate and even worse for those who lost homes. I live in the western Chula vista area but it is still really bad. Middle of the day looks like twilight and the air makes your lungs burn. I air nozzled like an inch of ash off my cars. Its snowing this stuff. I guess you could call it "socal snow"....

Seriously though. Got the S13 hatch filled with bottles of water. Gonna head over to the highschool to drop it off first thing tomorrow. Can't just sit in my house all day, gotta do something to help...

Damn my throat hurts.. need something to drink myself. Hopefully this all ends soon.

just heard news that the fire in oc is still going on, but didn't get any houses. i could see the flames all day while at work out the back window. they said that is suspected of being arson. it got super close to my gf's house last night, but luckily was stopped about a block away. so far the best info would be local radio stations online. i know in la/oc they are covering all of them.

I just left San Diego 2 hours ago and got to OC. Was watching the the most southern harris fire last night from a park across Otay Lake. fire looked crazy! all over the hills, all spread out.

hope everyone who was involved is safe.

On the way home this morning i saw more than 20+ Military trucks/SUVS going towards san diego with Plenty of Cargo. im glad everyones in it to help! i'd volunteer, but schools got me busy.

So if Any of you college or high school or even older people are free since theres nothing to do, go Help out! make the San Diego community look better than it already is!

I was giving Chip Foose a ride from his shop to his house this morning, and he said that the OC fires started less than a mile a way from his house.
He was driving home, and when he got off the freeway, the whole hill behind his neighborhood was an inferno.
Today the hills were blackened, but the fires were out.
It's good to see at least some of the fires are starting to get contained.

Rice fire evacuee here.

Fire is currently stalled on the hill above my house AFAIK. If you see a map, you'll see Reche and Gird roads. I live (lived?) off of Gird, right about where the boundary of the affected zone is.

One house on our street burned and the gas line to our house was/is burning, blocking access to the house. We're unsure about the condition of the house, but our answering machine is still working.

I've got a friend with a pickup trying like hell to get to my house. We're cooking up every lie we can to try to get him through.

daryl337
10-23-2007, 01:20 PM
If he dies I lay it on your hands. In all honesty, being an ex-wildfire fighter... I know that civi's get worried about their house, but you have to stay out of the way! As stated earlier... most of these fires could have been fought earlier but werent because of evacuee's who didnt GTFO when they were told.

thanks guys...thanks.

I literally laughed out loud.

Yeah in Iraq back in the day...they put out oil well fires with explosives.

foothill ranch fire is still going. last i looked it was right across from my work and also moving towards homes in portola hills. i can't believe we're still here, i mean at one point i literally could have spit on the fire. it's still close enough to throw something at, but i guess because the wind is not blowing toward us they don't think it's a threat. for all the oc people, here's the best link for updates if you can't get to a tv.

Peter. Do you know what happened with the fire(s) closest to me?

Tonight it's not hot or really stuffy at all.. No ash falling like last night but the moon still doesn't look white/light grey.. Still looks burnt orange so I know there still has to be quite a bit of smoke/ash in the air.

I actually got to drive to wal mart about an hour 1/2 ago with the windows down without the A/C on. I also don't see a red glow from the other side of the mountain..

did the campgrounds in san clemente burn??? i love those campgrounds.

I don't think so.. I don't think any fires actually touched down in S.C.. There was just a ton of smoke on the eastern and southern part of town near the marine base.

Today was the first day in like 3 days that I have actually been able to open up windows and take a semi deep breath of air.

Things are looking good here.

I don't think so.. I don't think any fires actually touched down in S.C.. There was just a ton of smoke on the eastern and southern part of town near the marine base.

Today was the first day in like 3 days that I have actually been able to open up windows and take a semi deep breath of air.

Things are looking good here.

it may seem that way and i thought so too, but after i left the air conditioned gym and walked outside, i instantly choked and felt my lungs tighten up. not cool

Everytime I see more pics I get that much more frustrated.. Usually stuff like this doesn't bother me but this time it is.

At least the wind is virtually none existant unlike the first day which caused so much ash/dust to fall that it looked like a flippin valcano exploded nearby.

Peter. Do you know what happened with the fire(s) closest to me?

do i look like a news reporter to you?! jk. umm. well kanes house got evacuted yesterday. his house is on southside near brendans. sorta. brendan said he can see flames from his deck.

but todays a whole new day. are any fires contained yet? irvine still smells like a bonfire. i read that malibu was 100% contained. i also heard that sean penn's house burned down again. it burned down orginally in the 2003 fires. ha. such crappy luck. i bet fire ins premiums are like 50k a year for malibu area.

I was thinking about going up around Brendan's parents house just to see what the view is like.. I can't see any of the Pendleton's mountains from my place.. All I can see is where Amanda used to live beyond that is just white smoke.. =/

The sun isn't as red as it was yesterday though.. It's actually more on the yellow side today. :)

I'm thinking about buying some masks and changing the cab filter for the car.. I bet that thing is nasty looking since the fires have been around.

I get to go back tomorrow!

Have to boil water for the next few days, and have no gas, but I get to go home to survey the damage.

Also get to drive the 240 with a loose rear sway and just the top half of the factory exhaust manifold.

all schools in oc are closed county wide due to air quality. i hear the marine layer should be rolling in soon.. say theres excess humidity, could there be a chance for acid rain? or... acid mist?

speaking of rain.. everyone needs to go buy some tarps and sandbags and work on your hills. the next big news story is gonna be about all the mudslides caused by the fires.

this is true... ^^ definitely a good idea.. i dont think youll get acid mist or rain, its just not thick enough to do anything harmful, its just marine layer and they dont predominatly drop water. cou;d tho you never know the way things are going! lol.
