A maintenance Airman inspects an MQ-9 Reaper in Afghanistan Oct. 1. Capable of striking enemy targets with on-board weapons, the Reaper has conducted close air support and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

An MQ-9 Reaper takes off on a mission in Afghanistan Oct. 1. The MQ-9 has nearly nine times the range, can fly twice as high and carries more munitions than the MQ-1 Predator.

Aircrews perform a preflight check on an MQ-9 Reaper before it takes off on a mission in Afghanistan Oct. 1. The Reaper is larger and more heavily-armed than the MQ-1 Predator and attacks time-sensitive targets with persistence and precision, to destroy or disable those targets.

An MQ-9 Reaper sits on a ramp in Afghanistan Oct. 1. The Reaper is launched, recovered and maintained at deployed locations, while being remotely operated by pilots and sensor operators at Creech Air Force Base, Nev.

An MQ-1B Predator unmanned aerial vehicle prepares to land at Balad Air Base, Iraq, after a combat mission in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Predator aircraft fly intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Air Force Predator missions contributed to the 28 ISR missions flown Aug. 18.

I really like the idea of us going toward more and more UAVs. Not only is this helping our brothers and sisters in the USMC,Navy, and Army on the ground alive, it is also keeping our pilots alive.:bigok: I know I would be pissed if I was one of the enemy and got killed by a remote controlled airplane.:keke:

It's only a matter of time before there will be a robot performing the duties of the ground troops. Controlled by a young man/woman thousands of miles away... playing HALO 6.

Technology is cool.

i keep thinking of skylinks from the terminator movies

i dont wanna see any of my friends overseas get hurt

but i'm wary of handing off such destructive capability to a buncha computers
i hope theres some quintple redundancy over the control systems

UAV's are very cool.

I heard somewhere that some of the Predators being flown in Afghanistan, were actually being piloted from a base here in the states. CRAZY!

Dude, being a military man yourself should have raised the bullshit flag on that. We can't even get AFN to work longer than 30 minutes muchless pilot a radio controlled aircraft with live munitions.

I'm sure the guy piloting R/C planes in a combat zone behind his desk in Nevada is the same guy telling boots he's an underwater sniper or an in flight missile tech.

Technology and the goverment? Uh, I'll pass.

I'm sure the individuals are well trained for the job, as shown by the targeting pod on the front of the aircraft I would say its as accurate as a weapons officer aiming it from an actual jet. Laser guided bombs are extremely accurate w/ gps and all. Probably more steady, and w/o the fatigue pilots experience.:bigok:

I think this unit brings new meaning to "silent, but deadly".

Not to mention I'm sure Airman Jackass will be more focused on trying to find a way to connect to Zilvia via satellite then he will be trying to pilot his aircraft...

10-21-2007, 12:54 PM
Well that goes without saying. Who wouldn't want to get on Zilvia?

Well besides the people from "other" sites that think we're all assholes.

This makes me want to build an R/C 240sx so I can send it to the "other" websites car meets. No sense in putting Zilvians in harms way of becoming un-informed and not caring about proper offsets and ride height..

sorry guys, all UAVs are flown out of nevada, including the predator and global hawk. i've heard close in support (take off, landing, taxiing) are done on site, but i'm not sure. sure, AFN blows but it's a different system, and i already get zilvia in my office.

i think these are our best bet of finding Osama, usually the first indicator that one of these is in the area is that you're dead.

and none of those guys in the pictures were Airmen, they were all contractors or DoD civilians.

i kinda want to call BS on the video, no actual footage of it leaving the ground, and no real footage of it flying there was a shot of some wing of some plane, but maybe its just bad editing

lol how many more ways can we come up to kill people?

some of the inventions the military comes out with are really amazing....incredibly ingenious....just wish they never actually had to take peoples lives with them....unfortunately that is not the world we live in

what are you calling BS on, that the plane exists? that it can fly? this plane has been running operational missions for a couple months now. it's just an evolution of the predator B which was of course an evolution of the original predator. the predator B was responsible for a high level AQI kill like 2 years ago. nothing revolutionary going on here.

i'm sorry, i dont know who you are. what are you, like a moderator or something?

SERIOUSLY, why on earth do your images have to be THAT_BIG, THAT_GUY?

we need to reset the standards here and trim everyone's sigs/avatars. i'm on a massive monitor and all this shit just takes up too much space. besides, i think its safe to say that everyone knows that you and philip are moderators! do people still have problems recognizing this?

Mike, my Signatures are within the standards for Premium members. It's nothing special for being a Moderator.

I drew/Photoshopped them myself, and I like them. That's all that matters to me. You can go to your profile and turn off Signatures if it really bothers you that much.

Relax. Being stressed out will cause your hands to shake, and you might screw up someones lights. I don't want to cause you un-due stress and ruin someones lights I don't even know. :keke:

Airmen 2: "They're gonna start making YOU pay for these things"
Airmen 1: "Pay for what?"
Airmen 2: "The UAV's you keep crashing dumbass"
Airmen 1: "Fuck the UAV's... I meant Zilvia. Was I flying a UAV just now? I opened a new window and I forgot..."

Diabolical, you JUST got un-pinked. How about you just keep your mouth shut for a while?

It's best just to remain silent about the things you don't fully understand.

This is NOT a debate about the fighting going on right now. This is someone sharing some insight into the technology we possess. Leave it at that.
