So I was putting rocker arm stoppers in my car (ive never opened a motor in my life) and my friend was helping me. We did everything perfect and as I was torquing the first bolt down it broke off inside the head.....

The torque spec was 11.8 nm and the wrench had 2 settings: Foot pounds and ReN.m or some 2 letters then N.m So I assumed it was that. We put it on 11.1 and moved the little handle to 7 which was 11.8.

I was SLOWLY torquing the bolt and snap. So now im scared because idk wtf to do and my friend says worst case scenario is get a new head WTF!
He said I could also take it to a machine shop but that means I would have to take the head off which I have no idea how to do, not to mention im a college kid who get $60 every 2 weeks haha. Can anyone help
And yes by help I meant tell me how dumb I am because I either messed something up or the ever so common "if you dont have money then dont try and work on cars and you should have experience before ever doing anything"

Anyway those who dont flame thx haha I feel bad enough already =/

So is there any other solution besides the "im fucked" one?
Rocker Arm Stopper install FTL!:duh:

Edit: Btw I got the install from this site which seemed like a perfect writeup

Bolt #1 is the one that snapped

The Black circle in the lower right is the bolt that snapped

And the red line is about where it snapped at

need a pic of the damage.

maybe able to drill out re tap or extract it with some left hand bits

If its broken flush in the head, you have to drill it to back it out, which is going to be ugly, because you'll get metal shavings everywhere..

Thats why the machine shop is a good idea, because afterwords they can clean the hell out of it w/o pushing all those shavings into the block.

FUN FUN FUN FUN.

Thats a easy fix. I actually did the same thing one time. The torque wrench was acting up. I snapped one of those bolts on the cam bridges. All I did was use an extractor and took it right out. Since those bolt arnt tightened down very tight, the bolt came out easy. You should be able to get the tool at any parts store. Sears would be my choice.

You can get a replacement bolt from nissan. Just get one for a sentra se-r. Make sure you specify which bolt it is since they are different lengths.

I heard there are good bolts from like ARP or something of the sort that makes replacement bolts that are like crazy good. Or would factory bolts be the way to go, this assuming I get out of this situation

Id go with factory bolts just find some at the junk yard

its funny because I told my friend about the forum and how you guys are the gods of 240's and nobody believes me. Most of them couldnt put an aftermarket exhaust on and they doubt the power of combined genius :p

I know I have too many posts but I forgot haha

If the tapping or extraction tool doesnt work could I....

A: Use aftermarket strong bolts and torque them all down a little stronger then spec and just leave the broken one out? (I dont think so but who knows)

B: Screw the broken bolt in cause it still has a little bit of thread on it and just torque the others down normally

A+B together

Or

C: Get angry at my dads mechanic for making my fathers car burst into flames and get banned from the track forever for hitting him in the face with a torque wrench then make a crappy movie about it which single-handedly ruins the car scene forever by having corrupted smog nazi's drive around all day long stopping every modified car they see without reason.

PS posi rep for some of you thx for the help

hell no no ghetto rigging shit on the internals of an engine.

Extractors are designed to break Id still go for machine shop

I would say a machine shop to extract those bolts.

and if your motor is under heavy stress, invest in some ARP studs.
