Hey, I'm goign to need new tires soon and I don't know much about them.
The tires I have now (Hankook R-S2 Z212) are the first high performance tires I've ever owned. They seem good to me, but some people have told me they don't grip that well. So I was wondering what would be better? I like them cause they are cheap. lol
The trick is a I have 16x8 16x9 rims so I'm going for the 225/50 245/45 stagger and it's rare to find tires that are made in 245/45R16.
The ones I saw are Hankook R-S2, Toyo T1R, Potenza RE750, Dunlop SP Sport 8000, Yokohama AVS ES100, Kumho Ecsta Supra 712, Continental ContiSportContact and Fuzion ZRi.
Are any of these tires better then the R-S2? I might get another set of R-S2s for the back and get something like the RT-615 for the front (they only make them in 225/50), I heard they have amazing grip, so for braking it would be good, would that be bad to mix and match? Thanks for the help!

no its not bad to mix and match.. i run grippy tires on the front, and hard tires in the rear so it throws out easier... all depends on how much power you have, and what your trying to do... if your a gripper, then you want more GRIP obviously... so go with all around softer, grippier tires... and if you wanna die, just get all plastic tires from toys r us. crazy sale right now!

I'm all for grip, I don't drift at all. How do I know what tires grip more? lol I thought my R-S2s gripped a lot, but a lot of people are teling me they don't grip compared to other tires. Are RT-615 rly grippy?

My AVS ES100s were nice when I had them, but there's not as cheap now as when I bought them before.
I've been hearing nothing but good about the BFG GForce Sport. Fairly cheap, really grippy, decent treadwear and whatnot. I just ordered a set and should be driving on them in a week or so.
If you make a decision today, or need help making one, check out this thread. (http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=161029) $100 off a set of 4 tires, but the offer expires tomorrow. I got 4 BFG Sports in 205/50/ZR16 for $252 shipped, including the extra $40 rebate. Check it out :)

RT-615 are stupid grippy, federals new 595 are good tires too. you can kind of get an idea of how well a tire will grip based on its treadwear rating (softer tires grip better but wear faster). Look at tirerack.com or other similar sites, they usually rank tires compared other tires in the grip category.

RS-2s were fun but they were not as grippy as the azenis imho.
great drifting tire though for high HP car.
Azenis or Nitto NT01 for me for grip
I havent owned a set of NT01 yet, I probably wont until Feb either.

Right now I have 225/50R16 on my 16x9 in the back, but once i install my turbo, I wanna move up to 245/45.
Would the RS2 in 245/45 grip more then the RT-615 in 225/50?
Thanks for all the help guys. I'm ganna be buying the tires next summer so the rebate won't help me, but thatnks for the heads up!!

Bridgestone RE55S or Advan A048 FTW
RT615's are great for their price but they don't reinvent the wheel. I like them, run 245/40/17 on all 4's but the rear likes to break loose everynow and then. They're alright in the rain but I wouldn't go faster than 45 though.

^ That would be impossible since the Rt-615 does not come in 245/40/17 (Sadly)
unless its some japan only size
in which case falken japan can kiss my ass

I had them shipped from the US actually.... Saved me about $400 to buy them in Florida have them shipped to my mom's house and then have her send them to me.
I'd take a pic of my sidewall but I'm kinda nowhere near my car for another 5 months.
Maybe I got the sidewall series wrong.. It's either 40 or 45 don't remember but they are 245/R17

Those people are dumb! The r-s2's are great tires. The only other reasonably affordable tires that will be comparable to them is the nt-01s and the rt-615s. I have rt-615s on my car now and they stick great, but I wanna try the hankooks next (mainly because they come in 245/40/17).

I heard lots of good comment about Federal 595, but I dont think they have the sizing you want for 16s
I have 535 myself, and people say they suck...haha

i can tell you for sure, the KUMHO 712 has been D/C'd.
i run the KUMHO MX's...they're pretty damn sticky. Ive run yoko es100, avs sports, falken azenis, 615, etc., and id definitely consider the MX's up there with the best of them...especially for the price.

Azenis RT615's, , Potenza S03 Poleposition, Kumho MX.
IMO, The Kumho MX was my favorite out of the bunch. A lot of s2000 guys run them, replacing the much pricier Polepositions.
