i use mobil 1 as well, and the fram filter with the grippy shit on it, because we all know how much fun it is getting the oil filter off an sr...

Mobil 1 and NOT a fucking FRAM filter, because if I DID use a Fram, I would not be using one for long.
Nissan OEM, the cost of a $10.00 oil filter wrench is more than worth it to know I have a quality filter.

i had zero luck with any synthetic oils in my sr20's. my t25's always blew up shortly after going to synthetic....and i went through 3 t25's....:(
on my rb25 i run castrol 10w-40. i've been contemplating if i should switch it up since the weather's getting colder, so today when i changed it i went to 10w-30.....and on the way home i blew up my second rb20 tranny.....weeeeeeeee *sigh =]

I use Amsoil in my KA, along with Amsoil oil filters, car runs great on Amsoil synthetic.
If I wanted to I could leave the oil in there for 15k and it would still be good (according to Amsoil)

castrol high mileage for my KA! 10w30 usually. thinkin about switching to a 5w because i hear that the first number has to do with start up protection... i might be wrong about that though.
living in florida, the oil is never going to be cold on start up so i figure i may as well run a thinner viscosity?? maybe someone with more oil knowledge can give me a heads up...
i change my oil about every 4,000 miles and man that shit is BLACK when it comes out.

You can also use a PureOne purolator oil filter from advance auto parts. Its the same spec as stock oem nissan but cost less. I've used PureOne on my S14 and also my Subaru Impreza and it keeps my oil clean way past 5,000miles with royal purple.
i use castrol high mileage 10-30 w/moa and nissan filter. ive been thinking about switching to redline.

hot summer of arizona calls for 20w-50
winter out in new york? 5w-40
depends where your at, usually dont run 5w30 or 10w30 on a turbo car, NA yeah.
I have used Royal Purple and OEM Filter/PureOne/Mobile 1, if I run a track event I change the oil before and after (better save than sorry), if none then I change the filter every 3k and the oil every 6k.
Use Royal Purple because its extremely easy to come by, not into changing oil brands on a car, try and keep things simple for it.

I ran RP in my ka-t s13 and my t25 blew every seal you can think of. Then I realized that I accidently bought the 5w30 and not the 15w40. Don't ask me how I made that mistake... it had been a long day and they switched the shelving around on me:bash:
Normally I use the RP 15w40 with either oem filter or k&n.

As far as pricing goes, it is ALWAYS a good look to get the 10-pack of filters from Courtesy for $54.95, which is about the same as I pay at Nissan for them on my way home from work.
PureONE, at Advance, is $5.88 each, and I do not have the package option, so 10 of them require that I drive out of my way, AND spend almost 4 dollars more... I know the 4 bucks is a small issue, but convenience is not, nor is how shitty purolator has become with their filters. I will have my OE, thanks much.

I don't get that... You use good oil but really cheap oil filter...
Anyways I use Royal Purple 10w30 and K&N oil filter every 2500-3000 miles. I really just check to see if my oil is dirty if it is I just change it then.
My car runs so much better since I've changed to purple stuff. If I wanted to run some cheaper I'd run Valvoline. But I don't mind paying an extra $8 for an oil change.

My proof that synthetic is better:
Always figured it was more talk for more money on the more expensive synthetic oil, But I work on a professional drag boat team we run 8000HP engines, Same setup as TOP fuel dragsters in the NHRA.We always ran Lucas oil with a TFH treatment, we bumped the power up in the engine and we started having problems hammering bearings and blueing bearings after each pass. so after about 8 sets of bearings and 3 cranks later we decided to try centergen which is a synthetic based oil, Couldnt believe it but after we made a pass the bearings looked brand new. we have ran synthetic based oil ever since and have not had a problem. So I have seen the synthetic work great on high HP engines, of course we change the oil per pass so it doesnt get alot of run time for the long haul but it seemed not to break down under alot of stress.
thats my proof!!!!!

I ussually run what ever is cheapest as for oil or whats on specail at the time. and then pureone or K&N filters. But i change my oil every 1000 miles.
I have a fully build KA-T that gets beat on every chance possible, no issues.

I just hope that everyone put into consideration where they live and whether their car is NA or turbo.
Yeah you can run 5w30 in socal on a KA but with a SR i hope your running a 5w40 because of how much more heat a turbo motor runs.....
but some people also have oil coolers which makes a difference.
out in AZ and Texas we run thicker oil because we see more heat than most of the country during the summer, and the winter we are able to run slightly thinner oil but we always run thick to protect our shit.
if you can hear your valve train, run thicker oil.
if you see more noise from your bearings or get increased rod knock from your motor, TRY thicker oil.
have to think of it like this
how you drive + the season your in + your region.
NY people can run 5w30 as a DD with 10psi and not have a problem during the winter
socal can run 5w40 at the same settings during the summer.
track cars with or without oil coolers is another deal.
just think about it

Is there a huge difference in 10w30 and 5w30? I just bought some 5w30 Royal purple for my SR swap. I debating on exchanging it for 10w30. Also, I was told to run "cheap" oil when I swap just to clean anything out and swap for the "good" oil about a 100 miles later. Any truth to that?

OEM Nissan filters and Castrol GTX 10w30.
No need for sytnhetic in my case, stock 150k KA with stupid NA mods that I beat on like it stole something from me works great on regular old oil changed every 3k.
Putting Royal Purple or Amsoil in a stock KA is hilarious.
20,000 miles of royal purple oil changes is enough money to buy another KA or rebuild an old one.
My car is finicky about filters though. I've tried mobil 1, fram, purolator, and others, and almost all of them cause my car to have lower oil pressure and make the timing chain rattle when cold.
Wix and OEM nissan make higher pressure across the board, and the chain is nearly silent at idle.
