I'm going to take a break from tracking sportbikes and get back into cars; I picked up a S14 a few weeks ago and plan to daily drive, autoX and track it. I was originally set on running some stance/kbee coilover setup for my s14. But after doing a little reading most peoples' opinion say they're just poorly dampened stiff setups.

Seems like many people with tein flex say they offer a comfy ride for DD and when adjuster stiffer are great for track, same is said about koni/gc. As a reminder im not looking for a suspension good for drifting but grip driving. Which would you guys prefer.

Coils I think overall are good. Do you have stance or kbee? I have stance and I'm pretty happy with for DD. I wanna try kbee. They look really nice.

But if your going to start running AutoX Koni/GC sounds like the way to go.
Anyways I'm sure more ppl will chime in. Search up koni you should find some stuff. Searching here is your friend.

stiff is not necessarily the best for grip driving period. You want excellent dampening and rebound adjustability. A lot of grip driver go with a custom bilstein shock/strut with a good race spring.

I basically had to relearn how to drive when I went to coilovers. If you arent running on a very smooth frethly paved parking lot, you are gonna get punished. I usually set my levels to almost full soft on my stance COs.

If you are hardcore into AutoX look into a custom set of shock/spring. Im not saying that coilovers are horrible for autoX, but most people seriously into it will stay away from them.

thanks for the opinions but I'm only debating between tein flexes and koni/gc
anyone have experience with one of them or both?

Yes. I have experience with both personally but not for extended periods

The car I drove with Konis only had fronts if that matters, rear were some genearic damper i cant remeber.

I liked the koni car better, then the KYB/gc, then the tein

Luke's car has tein he gold or whatvere they dont make naymore but the spring rates are only slightly stiffer than tein flex.

I currently Have KYB AGX with GC coils with a spring rate that is about the same as 7.9 kg/mm front and 5.9 rear (close to Flex).

I like my set up better than Luke's and I put it together for about 750 bucks total including the camber plates.

I wll be trying Tanabes next and then custom fabbed Koni with GC after that.

So far I like my GC/KYB better than Luke's Teins but less than the GC coil with Koni car (however that car had better tires).

If this is going to see the track frequenly I would go with an adjustable koni rear shock that can easily purchased then go 350 rear and 400 front on spring rate (400 is the highest rate you can go on GC and still have 2+ INCHES of lowering potential).

Im kind of tierd right now but I hope this helps a little bit.

The beauty of GC coils is that YOU pick the spring rates and ride height aka spring length (the adjustability from the perch is meant for corner balancing). With the teins, your stuck. Also, Koni yellows are right at their limit with 400lb springs, after that, you'll need them custom valved. KYB agxs I would only recommend for stock or near stock spring rates, as the adjustment from softest to hardest makes a miniscule difference (the softest setting is only slightly better than a factory shock, the stiffest setting isn't much different. car in reference is a MKIV Jetta). Refer to the picture.

i have experience with the koni and ground control setup i like it Koni also does rebuilds to custom valving in the USA. can order custom spring rates as stated for ground control

The only thing about Koni yellows in the back (at least s13, dunno about s14) is that you have to take everything apart to adj. the damping. You have to push the piston all the way in and turn it. *sigh*
