As earlier stated i bought a rolling chasis so am new to how all the parts of 240sx should work. I did notice on this forum that someone ran an intake down through the battery location and just re-route the battery to another location in the car.

here is what the damage looks like. I was going to just cut a piece of sheet metal and weld it in as a flat surface. If someone could be nice enough to take a picture or e-mail me a picture ([email protected]) of their engine compartment where the battery is located so i can figure out how to handle this situation(rust).

What should I do?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

you can weld it back but if youre going to turbo your car sooner or later. leave a spot for the intercooler piping.

WOW that is FUCKIN RUSTY!!!!! Inspect the entire chasis carefully I am willing to bet that other areas of the car are just as rusty and that can be dangerous! Personally I would ditch the car, serious rust damage like that is BAD NEWS. If you try to weld a panel in there it will most likely just burn through whats left of the metal, welding to rusted panels is a fuckin bitch. As far as the battery goes I think you should relocate it to the trunk because a battery is too heavy to just sit on a ghetto-fabbed panel in a rusty car.

WOW, that is bad.

I don't have any pictures of my engine bay on hand that shows the location you're talking about but try this:

http://www.heavythrottle.com (Click on SR Install FAQ onthe left-hand side. Scroll down about half way and you should see a picture of a battery tray getting prepped for intercooler piping.)

http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=126132 (This thread contains tons of engine bay shots. Maybe you can find something in there.)

Good Luck!
