*EDIT* motor is acutally a single cam ka24E*
Hey guys, I have a 1990 s13 that has a bit of an odd sound coming from the motor. It seems to be most audible near the injectors but has a different sound. It is not a consistent sound and sort of taps with a varied frequency.

I have 3 basic questions.

1. when the timing chan is rattling, is it pretty noticable that the sound is coming from the front of the engine and not along the side?

2. With rod knock, is that more of a consistent "clank, clank, clank" than a tap what is sort of "all over the place" in frequency?

3. Does anyone know what this might be when give n the location and the rate of noise?

1. yes
2. yes
3. yes... I mean timing chain. Put a long scred driver on the cam cover and see if you can hear the noise. Usually you can and that will pretty much answer questions 1 & 2. GL

sounds more like a valve or lifter.
