Just wondering if an aftermarket HID kit on a set of German Zenki headlights will work properly or will it scatter the light and blind oncoming traffic?

The german glass healdights still have the flutes in the lenses, and the aftermarket hid kid doesnt have any sort of mechanism to produce a smooth cut off line so it will scatter the light a bit..

Im running german headlights on my car with a 6k aftermarket hid setup.. It glares but honestly I dont really care...I figure its better they see me and know im there then almost run me off the road by merging into my lane or doing something else retarded as usually was the case...

^True, but have you ever had a situation like that(oncoming HIDs glaring like a bitch)? You will hate that person. I get it all the time, all the little ricer civics in my town have HIDs, an they dont even put light on the ground, just have a sweet blue light now!

i had 6000k in my s14 with teh glass headlights. Get an hid kit from jrt lighting. They have bulbs with a blacked out portion on the top half of the bulb to eliminate some glare. It will never look as good as it should because teh housings were designed to run with traditional h4 bulbs. Where's Mike / ixfi I know he'll have something (funny) to say about this haha

Dont they sell some kinda artificial plastic cut off that you place on the bulb to eliminate some of the glare?

yeah....im just waiting for mike to come on this thing.... ... its kinda like knowing a bar fight is going to happen, so you sit down and just wait for it.. (but this is a little less violent, most of the time...)

Mike is not on AIM right now, and since it is 1:14am where I am, I am not calling him either...
Being that he is who he is, he is damn near guaranteed to do what he does, so sooner or later he will comment on this thread (and his language will likely be quite abrasive).

I have many times and it does kind of suck, but my hid kit did come with little 'shields' to sort of block off the top portion of the bulb and reflect it back downwards.. it works to a certain extent and my lights dont glare horribly bad..

That and I figure my car is low enough that even with the glare it shouldnt be bad to people driving normal height cars and trucks with mirrors high up..

save yourself the money and just drive with your highbeams on. If you're man enough to do a retrofit you can get a nice cutoff like this.

No need.
I asked cuz I wanted to know if it would glare, cuz if it does I'm nbot gonna bother with it.
I was pretty much trying to justify going KOUKI front end (instead of German Zenki) and HID so this pretty much seals the deal.
I'm gonna go Kouki and do it the right way.

Thanks guys

Right but its easier to retro kouki if I understand correctly.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Here's another option:

To those whos gonna ask...TSX HID Retrofit with the whole projector assembly, painted all the chrome black and clear lenses and corners.

Why would you wanna spend over $2k for a kouki front end to have the same crappy halogen bulbs???

Just for a reference, this what it used to look like.

Again, I did the TSX one, its alot less cutting and alot simplier since the projectors are compact enough to fit inside the zenki housing.

95-96 front end is a waste of time, unless you're absolutely in love with it. if you are, then expect to do a SHITLOAD of work to keep that front end with a good set of headlamps.

the glass headlamps w/ a drop-in HID kit gives you mediocre at best, lighting performance. you wont get the precision or clarity, and you'll glare other motorists unless you build additional shielding - which again, cuts down light output. you're better off just running a good pair of quality bulbs and cutting your losses.

OR, you can do what one of my customers finally decided to do, after years of fighting my advice. he's going 97-98 front end and we'll be re-doing his entire lighting setup. its tough to swallow, but its the right way.

---

as for using the 95-96 with those clear aftermarket lenses. well, 1) they arent glass, 2) they're still expensive, 3) they still require a shitload of work to convert, 4) you'll need to do an optics transplant, 5) you're left with aftermarket <unknown> quality PLASTIC lenses, which cannot even compete with OE plastic lenses. Obviously OE plastics are designed to have anti UV inhibitors and can withstand a certain amount of impact resistance. I have no common on the aftermarket ones, nor do I have the interest in <yet again> testing some more "made in china" aftermarket shit.

.................... especially when glass 97-98 headlamps already exist. GLASS. FUCKING. HEADLAMPS.

A simple projector swap makes the 97-98 headlamps GREAT, period.
