Ok, I thought I could wire up this little project of my friend's in a few minutes, but no such luck...yet.

I have a car sitting here that was fuel injected (pressure/return, normal stuff, that my friend and I just put a KA24de from a 92 240sx into. The mounts are done, the drive shaft is done, the lower harness (alt and starter only for now) is done(and functioning), the cooling sytem is done.. the clutch line mess is done, no PS to be used, etc....

The upper wiring harness from the KA is hooked up to the engine, fed thru the firewall, and the ecu is hooked to it... The harness was complete aka, unplugged from the brown plug and grey plug behind 240sx battery, and the few wires that ran into the dash on the 240 were cut (stuff for consult port and gauge junk) about 3" from the ecu plug... pretty complete harness, right?

Problem that I'm needing help with is...how the heck do I power up this harness and start this thing??? Can I just read a pinout and give the 12v swithables where it says give em and give the 12v full time mess where it says to give em right at the ecu, and eliminate the long lead of wires going to the grey plug and brown one from behind 240sx battery tray??? Does this Orange wire in the group of lil wires right at the ecu do anything???

BTW, I have the coil hooked up and all the other stuff attached just as if it were in the 240sx and I am not worried too much about the black/pink fuel pump wire( I can wire a fuel pump relay to it any old time), I just need to see some spark, hear an injector click, or something here...(some piddling with powering up the wires from the grey and brown plug produced a flicker or two of the ecu power light, but no spark or anything...)

If no-one can help with some solidish answers, could I get a link or two to any wiring FAQs yall are aware of for a KA into some old car like a datsun510 or corolla???? PWEEEEEZZZZ?

Also!, does the KA harness get it's grounds bty means of block grounding like my RB does, or do I need to ground a bunch of ECU wires????????

Thanks in advance for the time taken on my long read...

well i know for a fact the engine SHOULD run fine without that interior plug unplugged (the one that was cut) its more there for consult tool and cluster. your going to have to find the pinout of the two plugs near the batter tray..

fsm link, i was too lazy to read through it but im sure it will be helpful

I know "pretty much" what all the stuff on the grey plug and the brown plug do... Well, I gave power to the red/black wire, the black white wire, one other wire that I read needs a power sig, and I gave power to the brown wire on the brown plug (12v power for some of the sensors)... I also have loked today to find that the KA harness isnt grounded in the harness (on the the engine with 10mm loop thingys) like my RB, so I have added some grouns to this mess. I now have power to lots of stuff, but still no injector signal or spark????

Still lookin for help...

Thanks !

WOOOOOOO! He was on the phone with me as I was typing the last reply and BAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! He got it started. I gotta go over n see if he did anything new from the last stuff we did, or if we had jus forgotten something silly.

Still neeed info on what has to be grounded, just incase we missed some sensor. and any more insight from other non nissan or really old vehicle KA installers would be great!!!

Thanks!

So, why exactly are you not mentioning what vehicle this is you are swapping the KA in to?

Arrrr. I just wanted an answer without the thread turning into a mud slinging flame fest.

The car is a Corolla. sheesh, lol.

..and a very nice one at that. The guy tried making a post to "hint" at what he needed on club4AG and the whole world exploded on his face. I think the KA into the corolla idea is great if you have a healthy KA, a NORMAL budget, and some sense. (most who try it are broke asses honestly, sorry).

80whp and 70wtq vs. 125+whp and 140+wtq as a trade off for a lil more weight.... 50-60ish lbs? most of it is way back in the trans anyway. Honestly, it prob wont be that much difference since the car had AC and PS and will now have no AC and a manual rack. I know corolla guys love RPMs, but this will be like a 10k build on a 4ag for about $1k total. Please give it a chance. I will try getting some pics of this "nice" car and "clean" swap work.

The car is now running btw. No more probs there, just needed more grounds and that orange start wire hooked up.

Sorry to be shady, just wanted a straight answer and minimum drama. mi bado.

Sounds as if your ECU isnt getting power. Here is the location of the ECU pinouts. The brown F10 connector and the grey F9 connector near the battery tray contain power to the ECU/Fuel pump relays and power to the ECU. Take a look at this wiring pinout and it should help you out.

[norcal drift .com has a couple members who have done this.

the wiring isnt that bad. connect the right wires to the right places and throw in a fuse/relay box. i may have pinouts somewhere.

im sure everyone reccommends stepping up the gage wire you use for most of it. 14ga. can lead to voltage drops.]

are you using a gts tank/fuelpump, or an sr5 deal with inline pump? that swap is looking easier and easier. guy on ebay sells mount kits already, amongst other things.

great swap for someone who has free kas laying around (me)

Thanks yall, but check a few posts back...it was running before yall posted.

I already knew that everything (I thought) that I needed was on the grey and brown plugs from behind the batt tray on the 240....

I had already gotten power from those places and fuel pump sig from there....

I described to yall all of the wires I had connected.....from those plugs...

I just asked if yall knew of any others to get it running since that didnt work....

Everyone gave me BASIC info as if I had no idea what I was doing...thanks...

It runs GREAT now.... We just needed another ground or two. My RB grounds the sensors and stuff to the intake mani, and then grounds to the chassis from there. The KA was different. Had to run a couple grounds. (Friend and I also had not hooked up the stock ground strap near KA motor mount yet) oops.

Car was a GTS. No fuel return retrofit mess to work with. Used all stock stuff, removed stock flying saucer thing from top of Corolla fuel filter, installed walbro, and rocked out.

Thanks again for not reading the original post, LOL. Seriously, thanks for trying though. I just needed more "advanced" answers cause I had already done everything that was suggested before I ever posted.

BTW, this thing looks PERFECT in there. I love it!

Ps. Thanks for the nocal link! Thats good info there for real.

Har Har Har to answer your "advanced" question. yes the "switched 12V give them a switched 12V power source" the constant 12V give it a constant 12V power source. and the car should run

P.S. the Black wire with Pink stripe for the Fuel pump is a ground. its what switches the Fuel Pump Relay on and Off. if u have more detailed questions lmk and When I have time I can break it down what wire does what and what you need to wire up. and how to wire it up. to make the car go vroom.

Is that a "joke post" too??????????????????/\

I posted about 6 posts go that it RUNS now.

I do consider it an ADVANCED question, cause I had already DONE everything YOU and EVERYONE ELSE said to do. I wanted MORE info into why it didnt run YET when I made the first 2 posts waayyyyyyyyyy back there.

The answer that would have made it run was....hook up the orange wire to a start only signal and hook up a few grounds. I had ALREADY hooked up all the wires I needed from the brown and grey pugs, and had the fuel pump relay wired.... I wasnt needing basic stuff, I needed someone who's done it before to READ what I had ALREADY DONE and trouble shoot that based on what it took to run theirs.

NO NEED TO POST BACK WITH HELP ANYMORE.

Actually, if anyone else is doing this and they search this post, heres some help for you....

1.Find your grey and brown KA plugs (used to be behind battery tray).

2Find EVERY GROUND you can possibly find.

3.Find orange thin wire near ecu big blue plug in (should be cut near it).

4. hook all those grounds to a ground (deedeedee). I used the engine block then grounded the block well. If you wanna do it near the ecu, be my guest.

5. hook the orange wire to the corolla's big black with white striped start signal.<-do it, its why ours didnt start at first.

6. Read the Pinout for the grey/brown plugs and give 12v constant to one wire and switchable to the rest of the used wires (Bk/wht, R/blk, red, wht, blk, etc), and dont forget to hook up the FP relay wire (needs to ground the stok fp relay on the rolla), its the black and pink one and the brown wire is the other weird wire you HAVE to use, its for 12v power to lots of sensors, it should be switchable as well....

Now, if yer starter n shit are hooked up, and you did everything right, crank her up and start lookin' for gauge wires, eeek.

K, bai.
