View Full Version : Dark Metallic Gray: Which is best? (painting my muscle car)

So I'm getting my 1973 Pontiac Ventura Sprint Custom Hatchback (is that a mouthful or what?) painted ASAP. My 240 is on jackstands as I switch out the whole exhaust system and to be truthful, i need a break from it.

Anyways... the Ventura's whole new interior has already been ordered, and I need only to pick a shade of Dark Metallic Gray, or Gunmetal, or whatever other synonym you prefer. My problem I pose to you good folks is this:
What verion of Metallic/Gunmetal Grey do you like best?
Pix of stock cars and their year will help me best, as that'll let me know which paint code to hunt down.

Here is the Ventura as it stands now; Very very faded Gold with black pinstriping (which WILL be replicated and carried over) and a tan interior:

Please no suggestions of other colors, my mind is made up and the interiors is already on it's way. MORE flake/sparkles are better... almost to the point of being gaudy :) I even contemplated bass-boat sized 1/4" flake for a moment :D LOL!

So far, the best Metallic Grey I can find is a Honda color for a 2005 Honda Accord Sedan :/
Can you see why I'm asking for help??? ROFL!!!!
That being said, Post your pix, and if you can, tell me what the factory called that particular type/shade of metallic grey. THANK YOUS!

There's the graphite grey pearl (1c6)off of the IS300, which is what I had on my s13, but if I had to do grey again, I'd do the smokey granite mica (1g0) off of the IS350.

do the smokey granite mica for sure. ;)

fliprayzin: I couldnt find any pix of that color larger than someone's sig :( That looks like it might be a good one too...

but why is it so hard to find DECENT (keyword) res pix of these cars? ugh. I really like the IS300 that KwKouki linked, but that's the best pic I can find (clarity,and no color-cast). This is so aggrivating. I know there's hundreds of other car clubs like zilvia... where the hell are the decent pix?! LOL

so far it's 1c6 *graphite grey pearl* FTW. More pix anyone? Please? :(

The color doesnt have that much flake in it so you might want to add a bit more when your actually painting it.

Pics won't do the color any justice, so I'd suggest that you see the color in person before you make your decision. It's a much darker grey for sure, but it has more depth the sparkle 'pops' out better.

Trust me, do it!

heres one...House of Kolor Galaxy Gray......I love this color, nice flake, plus if you want lots of flake, you can get it in large flake as well IIRC

oh and sweet Ventura btw..they look so much better than Novas, but only thing is when you get it painted...you need rims for it too

OMG. That's an AMAZING color.
I wonder what the price diff would be picking something from House of Kolor, vs. OEM paint codes?
I have no idea in this area... anyone else?
