emissions questions

im getting ready to put put a 98' kouki sr20det w/ 6speed 00' s15 tranny in my 97' 240 and am wondering what kind of emissions problems im gonna run into. will it pass? i live in colorado and there kinda strict.:aw:

Don't know but, if you run the s15 tranny you need the s15 diff as well or, you can't read your speed.

is there any kind of aftermarket kit i can get to keep my stock diff until i get the s15 diff?

depends where you live... seeing as how your car is ob2, if they dont allow you to do a sniff test then your going to fail as theres no obd computer for them to connect to on the sr.

if where you live only does or still does sniffer tests many people have gotten them to pass (even in strict *ss california)

i live in chicago, here in cook county they are kinda strict, there is no sniffer testing anymore. any obd1 car is not tested and pretty much exempt so all 95 and below will no longer be tested (i think as of a year or 2 ago)


but 96+ you NEED to pass via computer (OBDII)

My boy had the same issue. Just go and know you will fail. If you have a buddy that works at a shop get him to write you up a repair ticket for atleast $500. You should be able to take it to emissions and get a waiver. Kinda shady but whatever... I have and 89' so it's not exactly relevant but I passed by dropping my car to the ground.. the dude looked under the car and was like " There's no way you're getting on the rollers. Here's your waiver. See you in 2 years." Not sure if that would apply to you.

hey thanks guys, i was just curious cause im in iraq right now and i wanna do the swap right when i get back so i can drive it obviously, but i still have the stock ka in it so i think i will just wait till i get back to colorado and use the stock motor to pass and then do my swap. thanks for all the feedback!
