It can buy a pile of parts in my garage :) lol...seriously. But in all seriousness, 20k can buy you a silly s14 if you can find one worth it. Hell, you can buy a great S14 for about 10-12 and build from there. Best way to go about it though is buy a shell and build it yourself, if you have a 20k budget that is...

really tho... buying someone elses car discounts a lot of the aftermarket tuner part depreciation issue... i think thats really the reason im leaning more towards that idea than building a beat up car and spending too much time on it... (time is money... installation and build time adds up to not having the car)
Maybe its just laziness too

It could get you a fully prepped S14 race chassis with an SR in it. All ready for you to get nasty..

enjukus car is SICK! 20k can get you a whole ton-o-parts that could make any s14 rediculous! i have about 10k invested in my car and its getting there.

^i think thats what im talking about...
depreciation in parts and labor results in a shear $10,000 savings... from that car
i think i saw that car on ebay haha
im gonna graduate university soon so I can have $$$ to buy another car thats why im asking this question

i think i might not have 20grand cash up front but here in america they invented credit and loans to front payments for cars and i pay a certain percentage of the loan back per month for how which ever many months i choose ...

Taking out loans and getting into debt to buy a race-prepped car, ie - money pit, is just not a good idea imo. But hey, you're only 22 once...

are you an experienced racer? if not, i would suggest buying a beat s13, modding the suspension and learning how to drive fast first. for 20k an s14 can be stupid fast and would be dangerous in the hands of an inexperienced driver. What type of racing do you plan on doing?

Technically you don't have the money then...your initial post gave off the idea that you did (IMO).
I would never take out a loan for a modded car or even to mod a car. Something goes wrong and you don't have the proper financial backing...your SOL.

taking out a $20k loan to buy a ten year old car is dumb. you'll get raped on the interest, as banks generally charge higher interest rates the older a car is.

hate to be kind of a dick...but dont you guys think an experienced driver would know exactly what he/she would want out of a car for 20k, not only that but want to build it themselves...i spend a lot of time at the track and i know pretty much what it would cost to get into just about any sort of car, race car or daily...im not sayin' im just sayin'. If you are inexperienced, which it sounds like you might be, do what others are saying, and buy a beater to learn on! BTW since Ive seen this thread, why has your age gone from 18 to 20, then to 22 now??? 4 birthdays today or what?

well im graduating school and i just turned 22... i just updated the birthday feature cuz i havent came on this forum for such a long time...
im just asking what can i buy b/c im not familiar with the 240sx cuz parts depreciate along with labor...
so ball parking 20k including parts and labor and car isnt necessarily the case ie. enjuku racing's car costed significantly more than 13k to prep but its going for $13k
so...
capital-one blank check lets u buy any car so it doesnt matter how old the car is.. its same interest btw

I built my setup for less than this
close but a little less.
Im still missing a good roll bar, R comps and extra set of track wheels.
you can build a pretty good race car if you really record how you spend for 20k with a chasis as cheap as the 13
just remeber whatever you put into the car, cut it in half. thats how shitty of an investment these cars are now
fuck F and F 3
it ruined EVERYTHING
and I mean evertyhing
it was the housing market crash for the 240sx community.
they might as well be honda civic ef's now

Please give me an example where buying a modded car (japanse import for $20K) will have a deprecation rate less than that of a new car. Not ragging on you or anything of that nature, I'm just curious.
I say buy a junker and build it up to your wants and needs.
However, if you want a decent S14..there is a nice track S14 for sale in VA for 9K which I think is a damn steal.

A meccha tuned CTR would be perfect for what I do... The 14 just keeps things fun on straights as well as the mountain.
But yeah, wen't from a 1990 fastback to a 84 Starion with an 88 motor in it to a '93 180 with some stuff to a 93 S14 with some stuff and I couldn't be happier in the 14. Took awhile to get used to but it's a great car.
Buy a spaceship.

OK i will give you example
say I buy Enjuku racing car for 13k + motor install of $X
After 1 year of use, granted that car still functions as first delivered - because parts and services alrdy depreciated from the first transaction (Enjuku to me where Enjuku racing lost money through the sale), most likely the car is still worth about $13k + $X
Where as a new car will suffer a heavy first year depreciation ... Ie. 2006 BMW or Audi or Mercedes in 2007 with regular use loses at least $5k off price paid

You really expect for a race car to "still function as first delivered" After a year of racing it with $0 invested?
Or are you gunna spend $20k on a tyte modded car just to baby it and daily drive it?
S-14s are cool, but if I was given a 20k budget for a car I wouldn't spend it on that.... 2 S-14s maybe :P
Shit if I had 20k to spend on a 240 I would spend 5k on the shell, 10k on parts and the other 5k pimping my garage out with tools :P
Either way, buying a pimped out race car just to say you own a race car = gay
Building a pimped out race car just to say you own a race car = gangster

Words that you should live by: BUILT not BOUGHT.
And have fun buying a 10-13 year old car for $20k and then having a 19%+ APR on your loan. By the time you actually pay that shit off doing monthly payments you will have spent well over $30k (ie that's fuckin' dumb).
