so i finally got my ka24det up and running and headed out to get it tuned and dynoed. im tuning off an safc for now until i can save money for a standalone or enthalpy ecu and up the boost. full boost was kicking in at 3700rpm and was seeing 5lbs at 3500. car feels pretty good but i still want the driveability to feel smoother. this is my first turbo car and it feels fast but i already want more power. i really want to work on getting my car to be more quieter because driving it on the street especially when the wastegate opens is hella loud. any suggestions?
specs:
-ka24det 130xxxmiles
-gt3071r .63ar turbo
-jgs starter kit
-tial 38mm wastegate
-hks ssqv bov
-godspeed intercooler
-sard 550 injectors
-walbro fuel pump
-z32 maf
-project nissan downpipe
-hks hi power exhaust

Throw away the afc it has no timing control. Get a real management system.
Route your wastegate dump into your DP.
Have someone tune it properly.
Run 14 psi and make 300 whp
Done

I would talk to john at rpsport get a haltech
Or an aem.
Maybe even a chalk board. That would be better than a afc.

Yeah you're playin with fire there, even on 7lbs... stock ign timing is real sketchy.
If you're on a budget, check out the guy in San Diego doing chips for cheap... I don't remember his username, but I know theres a few threads on here about him. He's got a sick KA-T, and could get really close for very cheap.
If you're ready to do it right, talk to JohnGriff about getting a Haltech. Anyone can tune it, and it'll be cheaper and at least as good as the AEM.
Oh, and if you're worried about streetability, I'm hoping that you're not running open wastegate...

For 500 bucks you can get an Enthalpy tuned ECU and that will be all you need for your timing and fuel needs.

It is good for a rom tune. It is a complete other level than a standalone though.
To me. The ems is more important than the turbo, cr, cams, injectors, etc. Without managing your peeps you business will fail. same with a engine.

A rom tune, an AFC, and maybe an adjustable FPR. Enthalpys tunes are good, but they are not 100% for every car.

you could also try running a MSD BTM, which would help with your timing problems. but i wouldn't run it like that for a long time, i'd go ahead and get a good ems like luke said

running open wastegate right now but im planning on recirculating it back into my downpipe. car is not being driven anymore till i get a standalone or chipped ecu. just deciding on what route to go. any quiet and stock looking exhaust recommendations? san jose cops are notorius for pulling over people with aftermarket exhaust and giving out state refs.

my check engine light flashes once in awhile and its because of knock. so even with a good tune off the safc i believe timing needs to be done. filled up half tank of 91 and half 100 octane yesterday just to play it on the safe side. and for now if i do have to drive it i dont push it hard at all.

I have the same setup, bnut with a t3/t4 on my ka and made the same numbers as you but at ten psi.
I am parting it out and have an enthralpy for sale. and a reflash is 100$ and that would be cheaper than the brand new ecu.
let me know.
