there are plenty of companies based out in japan but not many are willing to cater towards americans... mainly British.
another site JUST like the one you posted is
http://www.japaneseusedcars.com/
but again, most websites are oriented towards British, finding a state side dealer is another deal.

it does not cost $25k to import an s15 more like $15k if you can find a jdm broker and there is no legal way to register an s15 here in california unless you are a dealer.

Friend's shop just sold a R34 GTR Vspec for $110k.... had a few R32's and R33's for sale earlier in the summer as well.
Most people say forget it and buy a 350Z or a G35 instead of paying for a imported Skyline.... which is why its not a huge "hey guys look at us, we import cars" kind of scene like it used to.

Depends on how much the dealer wants to make off the sale... Have to pay for shipping + customs + legalizing fee's + dealer mark up on top of the original cost for the dealer to buy the car in japan....

Well if you can get one, get one now. The prices are skyrocketing for those, but not because the price, but rather importers. The DMV is coming down hard on registered importers of left hand drive cars because they are cracking down on people driving it. Just 3 months ago, DMV had an investigation on us and a partner down in LA. They are trying to trace the cars we sold in the past to make sure they aren't on the street. So Good luck.

Well, I might have had the bullshit line thrown to me on this one.. But German Sanchanze (GS Tuner) in Dallas told me he has 1 of 4 actual legal R34 gtr's in the country. And he owns 2 (I think, at least 1 if not the 2) S15's. So Im guessing the S15's are also legal. If they are actually "leagal", I have no idea how he did it.
The R34 in pic is his..

Depends on where you at. I know in FL you can register it as a kit car. That counts as legal. I got a guy I work with here in Kadena who has imported EVOs (1-5), GTI-Rs, and R33s. After fees, deregitration and for a container big enough to stick 2 cars in there, will run about $5k-6k.

JDM Car Lot, LLC. does not condone circumventing US EPA or DOT laws put forth on the importation of Vehicles. There are a lot of importers who will simply ship cars in as parts and have them registered in a state that is more relaxed on their titling procedures. We at JDM Car Lot, LLC. sell unibodys. Our unibodys have been re manufactured by a Licensed Kit car Manufacturer in Japan. The unibodys undergo several changes and are assigned a new VIN before being issued an MSO. We do not sell engines for our unibodys. It is up to the customer to source the engine and arrange assembly of the parts. Please check our inventory often.

That's what I thought.
I'm sure there are enough loopholes and technicalities in the laws out there that make it possible to import a JDM spec vehicle into this country.
I am not convinced that there is a way to do by following the spirit of the law.
And I'm even more convinced that if the importation of JDM vehicles becomes too common the EPA and DOT are going to notice and start scrutinizing the situation, resulting in another MOTOREX fiasco.

Im actually interested in this...what is the registration process? I see guys like chad and others who have S15's with US titles....so If importing one isnt expensive just buying one here is then what is the process? I know a lot of ppl bring them in as pieces but I would want to avoid that (of course just window shopping for right now) but what do you have to do? Just bring your papers to a registry and ask them for a VIN? Id love to know how guys with legal S15's do it

I simply wanted to know what method you used, since most are just semi legal loopholes and such, if I bought one I wouldn't want it to get impounded if i got pulled over buddy.
Theres a difference between titling and getting it road legal. There are a lot of JDM cars in cali that are legally titled but wouldn't be "legal" if put under scrutiny by EPA/DOT etc.
Earlier this summer I was back in SoCal and damn there are a lot of JDM cars down there now. In the span of a week I saw two Cefiro's, what I think was a EP82 starlet, and two dudes rollin in two separate R34 GT-R's down the 101.

I know the shop that was doing the majority of the car imports in FL. I know exactly how they were doing the titling. They would title the car in Alaska cause it removes the Kit Car Brand from the title. This is title washing. Your Title is not complete as it is missing fields.
You also blurred out the VIN and Title Number fields. That could be anyones title. I have seen those before...

This thread is stupid seriously.
I would give my input on this whole thing but it would take me like 10000 hours to type and give you guys the information on how to follow legal procedure to getting something legalized. Yes, it does vary in state, emissions etc etc.
Shit like glass, and stupid shit like that can cause your car not to be US Legal.
You can get a vin and register a car as a "track" car etc etc.
Ok, i'm tired cranky and I dont care.
You want an S15? Contact Adrenaline they bring all sorts of cars in, weather or not they can help you legalize or not if something you would have to speak with them.

well I will start with saying I LOVE NH!
LIVE FREE OR DIE!
I can go to canada right now and buy MANY CARS CHEAP!
This is a older skyline. 6 g's
I can drive it over border and get a VIN verifacation form fill it out and have a buddy (licensed state inspector) sign it, all it says that the car is matching to the nubers listed, blah blah blah...I then go to town hall give them bill of sale and a VIN form and they give me my plates $112 for a 1991 skyline, Then I go back to my buddy, the inspector and have him go for a ride while he puts my sticker on it!
If that doesn't fly I can call a sheriff and they can inspect it as a kit car and go from there.
I would love to start bringing them in, but of course money is an issue!
I have been bring sr's in for a few years now and doing ca's and rb's more now...Right over the NH border 3 hours away from my shop!

How many JDM vehicles have you insured?
I have called a few times to various companies asking for quotes in two states... got the same message from all of them.
The shop I poke to also informed me that insurance companies would tell me the exact message that I got....

I found this car dealer that has skylines,supras,ka-t s14's,tt fd's,nsx's. It's called focusautosales///focus auto sales.focusautosales.com. they are in garden grove california. also rb motoring might be able to help u...they dont import anymore but they have lots of skylines laying around that are for sale. they are in city of industry. rbmotoring.com. also if u ever go to arcade infinity in rowland hieghts. the owner of rbmotoring also owns the arcade so im sure u can talk some buisness with him there. i did!

They obviously had no idea what they were doing if they had to title the cars in Alaska. No car I have ever imported has been titled in Alaska....

Friend of mine has an R34 GTR Vspec, Soarer, and an R33 GTR in Plano and he has them insured with no problem so I'm not sure why you are having problems with it.

not to take this thread offtrack, but i had usaa insurance, and switched to geico, cause they had lower rates.
if you're looking for an s15 in florida goto skylineking.com, he sells them. he asks way too much money though.

anyone who's bitching saying you cant insure the cars or title them legally doesnt know what their talking about. not every state is like cali, im not saying the cars are 100% legal to DOT & EPA standards but they dont have to be titled as a track car in every state. i've gone to the dmv with a buddy of mine to title a car. he was partners with the JJ guy from dallas(douchebag)
i dont know wtf he's doing now with the whole kitcar title but from what i know of they are actually titled as a kitcar in japan before they even come over... from what i know of they havent imported a single car yet but i dont talk business with him, i know for sure every car that fast 4 wheels did was from within the states already(bought from random people who brought them in), they never imported anything.

What it comes down to... no car with an SR20det is 100% legal.
If you can drive around your modified 240 and find your loopholes to keep it on the street, you can drive the s15 and still use similar loop holes.
Cali is teh suck when it comes down to it... but VIN#'s can be assigned through DMV inspectors....
Getting a certificate of TITLE is different than registering the car for on-road use.
A TITLE shows you own the thing (how do you think show car owners have their cars?).... Registration is a whole new matter.
They key is to find an idiot who doesnt know what an S15 is, and then fooling them into being stupid enough to get you road legal.
... in a nut shell. :)

gotta love these "roll yourself" threads
that go on and on and on

why is this still being discussed?
1. You can legally REGISTER any car you want in CA. Registering a car as a show vehicle, off road only, or non-op is still registering. Registration isnt the problem, its the TYPE of registration.
2. You CAN NOT legally DRIVE any car you want on the street however. There are loop holes, lies, twistings of words and what not that people use however, to get around the system. In the purest form of the law though, you cant drive an S15 on the streets of CA legally.
This thread has run its course.
