For a little more than an SR swap you can do a nice turbo on the KA. I have seen almost 400whp on a stock bottom end.

I plan on going ka~t. I decided to go with the 2.4 liter partially due to more torque, easier to find parts for the engine, plus it would be easier to get back to stock form in case I get sent to the referee. Either way, make sure you don't skimp out on your engine management. Too many idiots spend money on the turbo and skimp out on the tune. Then they cry like a little girl when the engine fails. Don't fall into that category.

Check out the KA24DET FAQ thread at the top of the page.

I don't know how the smog laws are in FL, but in CA you'd be better off going KA-T, due to the fact that if you DO get caught, you'd just have to take off the turbo parts compared to the entire engine.

If your KA is already busted, it might be more economical to go SR, since the price of a complete rebuild, IIRC is roughly $1k more, something like that.

What are you going to be using the car for?
Serious track use = SR has the top end.
DD = KA is fantastic

I would turbo the KA if you feel it's still in great shape. You could get that 250+ HP which just a basic turbo kit. T28,FMIC,370cc and decent rom tune and exhuast. Then go higher later when needed. Good thing with this is that all your parts will be re usable should you go to SR route. except the turbo manifold. Both are excellent motors.

For around $1k, you get get 250hp out of the ka with a t25.

There's a thread on zilvia regarding a budget build or something that illustrates everything you need.

Also, check ka-t.org for the best info on turbocharging the ka.

An sr20 swap with bolt ons can get you 250hp.

But you're looking at $3k or so for a complete swap, plus another $1k or so in mods.

You don't need 250hp to drift.

Master your stock engine, and suspension, then go from there.

Only reason why it would sound complicated to turbo a ka is only if you don't understand how turbo's work.

If you go into the project thinking, "It won't happen to me" Then chances are it'll blow your motor if you're cheap.

As long as your motor still has compression and is in good running shape, there is no reason why you couldn't go ka-t.

If you have any questions, feel free to pm me...

If you meant the Exhaust or Turbo manifold from an SR. That would be NO. everything else should be good components for KA-T like. SR Turbo, elbow and downpipe.
