ok well i have decided that i need to do something about my engine , i'm burning oil and smoking , so i can rebuild the engine , there is a guy my friend told me about that is the best around , he will rebuild the entire thing for @ $2300 , but i will also prob have to buy a new water pump and couple other things , or i can wait longer and save more and go SR swap , the thing is that if i rebuilt the engine i would turbo it and have the KA-T on the SOHC that complete process could cost upwards of the same for the SR swap so i am torn on what to do because i am worried about my baby , any help , info will be appreciated , anyone with experience with this problem or similar problems help a brother out , thanks

KA. Higher displacement. Iron block. More respect.

I'd agree if you were rebuilding a KA24DE, but since its not, I'd go SR. Its all depends on what you want to do and how much $$ you're willing to dish out. Best of luck.

well if i figured it right(no actual math involved just rounding the numbers) , if i get the rebuild then buy a turbo kit , it will cost me just about the same as the SR swap , and theoretically i can have much more power in the long run , which is great , and not that i don't love the SR but i will be just a little more original in this whole endeavour , dunno one said KA one said SR anyone else wanna through down there opinion and help me decide..thanks

I'm gonna have to say SR but only because you have the SOHC. I just don't like how they look (I have one too) Also, I would say that if you wanted to build up a turbo worthy KA, you'd have to spend alot on internals. Also I'm a fan of the aluminum block. Yeah! Yeah! Aluminium is cool!

Anyways, SR. Or you could try the CA18DET to be a little more original. But I don't know anything about those.

if they look cooler, i'm sure they're better &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dozingoff.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

the impression that i have is that with a rebuilt sohc motor the internals would be solid enough to hold the turbo , the engine only has 83 k on it it's 90

Turbo the KA! I'm in the process right now and I can't wait. Good Luck!

MAn !! Go SR ...

the SOHC = one less cam .. Not good for an engine ... 140hp ? Humphh

Twincam is The SHIZnit! Man

and your Ka24E is not JDM TYTe!! throw it in trash !

Haha.... :hs:

all joke aside ... do what you want.. ! SR or rebuild your gonna be happy when boosting :) . If you want to risk your money get a SR .. good engine ! but you never know if the engine has been abuse ... inspect it carefully

Good luck !

do what you want, but i'ld check out other places if you're going to rebuild, that price seems kinda high. i rebuilt mine this summer, including new water pump, oil pump & power steering pump it cost just under $1700CAD

If you had a KA24DE I would say yeah turbo that block but SOHC??? should really go for the SR.

One way is the easy route, one way is the hard route. Both paths will make your car faster, one will be a bigger headache to attain.

I have no regrets ditching the KA24E for the SR20DET. Dont ever worry what people will think about your choice of motor, focus more on how clean your engine swap or engine work will turn out.

If i was gonna build a KA, it would definitely be a single cam. For 2300 bucks though you can get a lot more than you think. A stock rebuild is kinda worthless. If you would like to purchase an assembled performance block with racing rods and 10.5:1 forged pistons, you can get one for 1700 bucks plus shipping. You can get a built race head for 1000 bucks plus shipping(comes assembled with racing cam and valve springs and some other things). Throw in a fuel system and you can do 200whp all motor.

or you could get the same setup with 8.5:1 comp, then turbo it but now you're looking at big bucks. it would be cheaper to go with the sr.

i am here as well ...lurking :)

as far as the SR vs sohc kat..my KAT hauls some pretty serious butt on the track...i would build up the sohc and then turbo it....

my sohc kat at low boost 12psi-13psi lays down 323ftlbs torque and 288rwhp

see my site for dyno charts and the such...

personaly i would swap in a low miles kade from a 97/98 and turbo that, it wouldnt need to be rebuilt.. since pritty much all 97/98 kade motors are probably around 40-50k depending.. which means its still good for turbo upgread.. and s13 dohc cams would be good too
