I have a perfect condition sr smic with the stock shroud still on it. Now I know it mounts at an angle, but where does the shroud pull air from?
Reason Im asking is because I have a jdm zenki bumper with the hole for smic, and my stock oem chuki with the grilles (on the car). I know its just a smic, but whats better: oem chuki bumper or jdm zenki bumper with side hole?

Both will work. If you use the chuki bumper, I would take out the grill for more air though.

Gotcha. But does the shroud point more towards the grille or just some random spot? I would think there was a reason it was angled like that :(

When I had it on my car, It pointed in the direction of the grill. I had a OEM zenki bumper and OEM chuki on there. They both ALWAYS pointed to the grill. HTH.

if you have a jdm zenki bumper with the hole for smic then the shroud should line up with the hole. Make sense? The shroud or duct is designed to take air in through that hole in the bumper and direct to the intercooler.
for whatever reason, I had to trim mine b/c it poked through. Don't know why though.
PS - if you ever want to sell that JDM S13 zenki bumper let me know :)

Gotcha. What bumper were you using? I wasn't sure if there were different year smic's or if the shrouds were bumper specific or what. If it will point directly to the grille of my usdm chuki bumper, I might as well just keep it (especially since I just got my brand new jdm amber/clears :( )

I have the stock usdm zenki bumper. Maybe my duct was designed for a chuki. I don't know.
I'm not sure if the duct was year specific. Seems like it would be b/c of the different designs in the front bumper but I've never heard this mentioned before. What you should do is mount the smic and then since you have both model bumpers put each bumper on and see which one it lines up with. Then it stil might not fit b/c it could be for a kouki. lol
Either way, it's just plastic. You can always trim it.

lol...yeah, believe it or not, I didn't even think about doing that until AFTER I posted this thread. :( It has more to do with the smic being at my mom's house, and not readily available to just test it.
As much as I hate to admit it...
