coupe vs hatchback wiring

so i live in new york by niagara falls where everything gets really rusty. i have a 91 hatchback that has terminal cancer and i just bought a clean 90 coupe shell from georgia.

im swapping in the dual cam from my hatch. the body harness of the coupe is still in it, although the ecu and engine harness is gone. is the sohc body harness compatable with a dohc ecu? is it smarter to use all the wiring from the 91 hatch or mix and match?

only difference is the under dash plug by the ecu.

All of the engine efi stuff is the same.

yeah my old one was pretty rusty and because of it i was unable to even align the back. (all the bolts were frozen in the bushings) :fawk2:

back on topic though, so you mean that the plug that goes into the ecu is different? so i cant use a sohc body harness with a dohc ecu?

Hatchback and Coupe harness are different in many ways...even more so the 89-90 and 91-94 harnesses.

As mentioned already the ecu plug. (M53 to F1) are different. They are different sizes and color. The consult plug for the 89-90 harness is different than the 90-94 plug.

The hatchback vs. coupe harnesses are almost identical. The biggest difference are the plugs for the tail lights. The hatch has a total of four plugs while the coupe a total of two plugs. Please keep in mind that is not including the side marker lamps or the license plate lamps.

If worse comes to worse a hatch harness can be modified to work in a coupe. The deal is you have to extend the wires running to the passenger side tail light and repin the coupe connectors with the hatchback wires. Despite all that there is no guarentee that everything will work if you simply swap plugs, remove, and extend a few wires.

Anyway...your best bet is to make sure you have access to the wiring diagrams for both the 89-90 and 91-94 harnesses.

so other than the tails, the body harnesses are the same? for example all plugs such as the fuel pump, ect are the same?
