I took the S13 out to Buttonwillow Raceway again last friday with Speed Ventures...
http://www.speedventures.com/
This was my second time here with my best time from last event being 2:22 ... Configuration of the course for both events was 13 Clockwise which is the time attack config...
Mods on the car are:
Stock Rebuilt KA24DE (OEM rebuild)
eBay intake
Buddy Club 80mm Spec 2 exhaust
KTS coilovers
17x9 +20 5Zigen FN01RC all around
245-40-17 Bridgestone RE01-R tires all around
Energy Suspension master bushing set
SPL solid subframe bushings
Hawk Blue brake pads
VLSD
Alignment settings are:
-2.5* camber front and rear
0 toe front
1/8" toe in rear
stock caster
damping set at 6 front, 5 rear... from soft... 15 way adjustable...
Weight of the car came out to 2420 lb. with 3/4 tank of gas...
I haven't dyno'd the car yet with this engine but I'd guess about 140WHP...

Impressions:
The S13 ran great... The driver needs more seat time...
I only ended up running 1 complete session and 2 incomplete ones...
The first one I ran I pulled off because I got spooked after watching an accident... The last session that was incomplete was because the flywheel bolts backed out again...
But during the second session, I ran a 2:18, which is an improvement of 4 seconds over last time... And I wasn't pushing the car at all, just looking for the best lines... Here are some notes from the laps:
1. The car doesn't feel underpowered at all... Only one car (E46 M3) did I have to let pass me but everyone else (majority of who had 100 more HP than me) was not a problem...
2. I still haven't found the limit of stock brakes with race pads... I keep pushing them harder and harder and they take the abuse... It's pretty impressive and scary at the same time... I hope they don't fail me!...
3. 95% of the course is in 3rd and 4th gear
4. The stock S13 seat sucks at the track... I keep having to fight to hold myself up...
5. I could feel the car understeering during the downhill turns which I want to see if I can get rid of...
Here is a turn by turn on the course:
http://www.buttonwillowraceway.com/images/race_13_config.gif
1. Enter "Sunrise" in 3rd gear...
2. Go tight up "Off ramp" on the right and full throttle in 2nd gear very early... No one could catch me here...
3. Enter "Cotton Corners" at the bottom of 3rd... I still need to find the best line here... Exiting "Cotton Corners" I have to stay as far left as possible because I feel oversteer as I go downhill to the right...
4. Let off at "Club Corner" and then full throttle, end up in 4th gear... I need to stop letting off at "Club Corner" and see if I can get away with just a tap...
5. Stay right going into "Bus Stop" and then cut left without hitting the berm... This is taken in 3rd gear... I want to try not going so far right and hitting the berm all in 4th gear... I saw my S2000 friends do it...
6. "Truck Stop" to "Riverside" as fast as possible... 4th gear cruising... I just need to keep getting faster here...
7. Up "Lost Hill" on the left and brake hard where the white/red lines start... Aim for the cone at the top of "Lost Hill" and power out at the top in 3rd gear... I've seen others go full throttle through this area...
8. Full throttle through "Drag Strip"
9. Enter the "Sweeper" in the middle and slowly drift to the outside... Then cut in at the end to enter the "Esses" more straight...
10. Exit the "Esses" in 4th gear and full throttle out...
11. Take "Sunset" wide while downshifting to 2nd... This is another place where I should be able to just tap the brakes and give it gas...
There are definitely some areas that I know I can improve and I just need to spend more time in the car at the track... My current best time is 2:18 but I view the times for this config like this:
2:30 - Decent beginner or stock car (I consider stock car as a $30K new-ish sports car... ex. S2000, 350Z, RX8, used M3)
2:20 - Stock or mildly modified car with a more practiced driver
2:15 - Good driver with a stock car
2:10 - Getting into modified car territory now and the limit of street tires
2:05 - Pretty fast and you probably have a dozen events that you have gone to... The car probably has R comp tires and some significant mods
2:00 - About as fast as it gets for street cars on non-corporate budgets
Under 2:00 - Congrats!
1:48 - Record held by JIC S15
My goal was to hit 2:15 but I just didn't have enough track time...
Here are my friends cars... Their mods... and what they ran...

So as you can see these S2000 guys are pretty quick... Outside of our area were people running in the 2:20-2:30 range... There were no S13s or S14s there other than me...
Here are a couple more pics...
Lined up and waiting to go...

UHaul trailers are the best... seriously...
Low ramps so no need for blocks and straps are attached to the trailer and easy to strap up... Literally only takes 2 minutes to load the car...
Cost was $54 for 24 hours
http://nitinj.com/Images/240SX2/Buttonwillow%20092807/2DSC01422.JPG
And there was a group of Radicals there... Those things defy physics out there...

I've got some videos that I'll link up here soon...
And if you haven't taken your car to the track yet, do it!... It's a lot of fun!...
