Hey guys, I need some help diagonosing a problem, Nissan 240sx 91 Fastback Here my story,
After filling my car with gas, I get back in my car press my safety defog switch, hold down the clutch and I tried to start my car and all I hear is “Click” coming from the starter. I had no choice but to push start it home from the gas station.
Since it’s a “Click” sound, I thought it might be the battery not giving enough juice to the starter. So I charge the battery overnight and put the battery back in and still nothing from the starter.
So, I thought the started died, so I replaced the starter with a brand new one, hoping that it solved my problem. I press my safety defog button and hear these clicking noises in my dash (maybe a relay?), and held down the clutch and try to start and nothing.
And more crazy electrical things start happening, none of my electricals are working, front lights, my electrical seat belt, brakes lights. The only thing working was my interior ceiling light and my clock, but when I turn the key to start position it turns off.
I thought it was battery related problem, but I tested out my battery and its in working order.
Any help will be much appreciated, since its my only car to work and school
Thanks

Check your fuses. Is your safety defogger switch like a clutch switch? Maybe your wiring is loose or you caused a short somewhere. Also try testing your alternator. Normally your car should start even with a bad alternator, but on other cars, this caused my battery to die and had hard problems starting as well. After I replaced my alternator, problem was solved. Good luck

I checked all my fuses, its seems to be good, but i will check again just to make sure. The defogger switch is the samething as the clutch switch, it was there when i bought the car.
and for my alternator, i have feeling thats it also bad since it wasnt charging my battery properly, ill replace that and see whats happens
thx
and yes school and work = problems

hahaha its wierd, cuz every once in a while I get that click too, I think it has something to do with the factory alarm or a short somewhere, idk. I just reach under the steering column and play around with the wires until it starts. I should really fix it, but I suck so much at electrical its not even funny. I need some helpzzz

i get a problem like this sometimes, everything will completely short out and i hear a click. i fix this by hitting something inside the car, telling the car im better than it, and then it will usually start. this might not work for you but it sounds like a ground may be loose somewhere? trace all the wiring to the switches and look for anything out of place.

check your main fuse thats in the engine bay it should be a gray one if you used wire to complete the connection cause the fuse poped and you were going to get a new one but never did that will be you problem my friend did the same thing and his car would not start after putting a new one in the car started up just find also you might have a bad battery sometime bad batterys work for a long time them one day die forever. hope this helps

There is probabaly a short somewhere within the engine bay. Look for it. If it doesnt start it might be the ignition fuse that popped. Check it out.

damn its crazy when you think your car is giving you hell for no reason and when you check the boards its not just you! i had the same problem with my s14 last month, you turn the key and nothing happens. the lights on the dash come on and you here this clicking noise. i too thought it was the starter even though its only a year and 5 months old. so i took it to mt mechanic to check it out and he said the car started everytime no problem. he said it maybe the main relay or that the battery isn't supplying enough power to the starter. it happened again the next night, so i took it back over there and it started everytime no problem, lol.. so if it works in front of him he can't diagnose the problem. since then its been working fine. those few times it happened before i toyed with the spark plugs and the it started up.. i dont know its to weird for me.. my friend calls it the the houdini, lol..
