Is anything for racing more comfortable that that found in a mass produced street car? NOPE.
Get a butt pad or something.

Granted my experience is limited to shops and stationary cars, but I find the Spraco pro 2000 and evo series to be very comfortable (though a PIA to get in and out of). I like that they are much more supportive than the craptastical S13 seats and don't see how they could have that much less padding. I spent about 10-15 minutes in one as I was trying on gloves at Northstar motorsports and must say if I had $600 and nothing to do with it, there would be a pro 2000 on order right now. I personally find the seats in the S13 to be pretty uncomfortable to begin with so at worst I figure it's a lateral step with some actual bolstering. The S14's are a big improvement, though I havn't spent enough time in them to compare.
Now if you're talking about a Kirkey seat, then yeah, it's not what you would call comfortable.

Sports seats like a Recaro SRD or Recaro Sport are wonderful in a street car... Find a VW dealer and test drive a GTI 337 to see what I mean.
Racing seats are just that... not for street use.

yeah, ok, so maybe i want a more comfortable seat....rather that a racing seat...
i see what you guys mean...
Maybe not a racing seat, but a street seat made by a racing company might do well. Sparco makes some pretty nice looking leather seats that recline and everything. So I'd imagine those would be very comfy and still hold you better than a street seat. But I've never sat in one so who knows. Also, they are about 800 or so per seat <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
butt padding <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
What about non-adjustable full racing buckets in term of comfort? I've heard that these aren't actually as bad as they seem, but haven't sat in one before.
They're also (in many cases but not most) cheaper than reclining buckets, which is an inscentive, but how do they compare to a reclining bucket? Are they a lot harder to get in/out of? Are they really THAT much more supportive?

Ive been told by a few people that some racing seats can actually raise the height of where you sit. Is this true or just a myth? If the raised it, i dont think id fit in my s13. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Yes, it's true. It's not the seat itself but the sliding bracket (for adjusting the seat fore/aft). Only Bride and some other Japanese company I can't think of right now produce sliding brackets that properly fit the S13/14/15.
Your options, then, are to live with the raised seat, live without the ability to slide your seat forward and back (bolt it to the floor), or pay $$$ for the Bride rails. The Bride rails will work with a Sparco, Recaro, etc. seat.

How much are the Bride rails?

wait a sec... I was under the impression that the reason teh bride rails are lower is because they are side mounting (to the seat) as opposed to bottom mounting... this in mind, aren't recaro's, sparco's, etc bottom mounting seats (i'm talking the reclinables, not the 1 piece race seats).
Am I smoking crack? I could've sworn that's why there's not a set of Torino's in my car right now...

Smoke crack you do not. Custom rails you must make.
1. A reclining seat will almost always be more comfortable than a fixed seat. Fixed seats are used for racing applications b/c of rules against reclining seats (seat backs breaking cause ugly injuries). They are only harder to get in and out of b/c of the side bolsters - which are usually huge b/c they should be pared w/ a removable steering wheel. They aren't any more supportive than a good reclining seat either. Actually less so, I think. They work more to keep you put than the keep you comfy.
2. Aftermarket seats will raise you b/c a) the brackets; and b) the 240's seats are already about as thin as you can get. There ain't much room b/n you cheeks and the street as is. It is virtually impossible to make less unless you are bolting to the floor and there is no padding.

OUCH!!!
But anyway.
I'm assuming that governing bodies will only require a full, fixed bucket if you're racing competitively (i.e. not just weekend auto-xs) in a type of sanctioned, ranked and generally more "official" race?
suggesting that (to-be) weekend warriors such as myself will have no issues using a reclining bucket as opposed to a fixed bucket?

i have rails that sit just as low as bride. actually, i was told they sit a bit lower
how so?
the slider is part of the floor bracket
US companies/models make it like this:
seat
slider
bracket
floor
the ones like bride:
seat
slider bracket
floor
the slider is think and sits on the floor with the bracket. the clearance above the floor? vitually nothing.
the ones i have fit bride brix (and bride reclinables) and recaro reclinables. i'm getting a brix in january or in august (depends on if i cant pick them up in jan)
if i had a digital camera i'd take a pic of it. looks different then bride ones. these are a bit heavier. they are designed different, which is what i want.
see, the bracket/slider has a thin peice of metal on top of it (1/8 inch thick). the rail and slider bolt ot the floor. i bolt this peice of metal to the bottom of the seat, then to the rail. its a different setup then bride. AND this one i can move (slide) the seat left to right before bolting it in for sure.
why is this good? i have 98 seats in my car. the passenger and drivers are set more to the left then my 95 ones did. i've seeen JIC seats that sit farther to the right then stock seats as well, ,right up against the door. this seat rail i ahve i can push it a bit to the left to close the gap as well as keep it from rubbing against the door.
hope i explained it OK
you could get a custom rail or dish it out for a japense ones, but either way you'll probably come out the same in the end.

My next car will likely have a metal seat bolted to the floor w/ only about a 1" pad. It will NOT be a daily driver <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
You're right about the racing part. Autox, track days and SOLO I do not require a fixed bucket (you can run any seat). Once you get into club racing, you are looking at a fixed bucket and a seat back brace (unless you have a newly certified FIA seat).
For weekend warriors like us, there is no point to getting a fixed seat. It's cheaper, but too much of a PITA in a car that you actually use.
I made a set of mounts for my MOMO Acropolis, angle iron works great. I tried to make slider work, but they made the seat too high. The floor pan in these cars make aftermarket seat very difficult to install. The hump where the Cat. resides is the major issue. I have considered cutting out that part of the floor and installing a flat surface, but that is a lot of work and I'm not so sure it would be a legal modification to SCCA.
If you are looking to go lower on a seat, an SRD or similar style seat is going to be tough. The SRD mounts on the under side of the seat rather than the sides like a 1 piece. I probably would enjoy a 1 piece seat for the first 30 minutes into a trip then it would get uncomfortable.
I have never seen the Bride sliders, but they do sound interesting....
I have pics of my mount if anyone wants to see it.

So who makes the one you have? or is it custom? I'd be interesting in looking up more about it, provided I knew what to look for <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> The setup you have is the same as I'd like to do, from the sound of it <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I tryed to put a set of bride seats in my s13 and due to me being over 6 foot i was hitting my head on the roof no matter how i sat. So i have debated just mounting them directly to the floor but for now until i decide im just using my s14 seats with scooped out foam.
