Yup couldn't agree more. Plus it doesn't have a 4g63. The IX looks to be the last real evo.

The build quality is incredible, (makes the Galant look like crap) the styling… meh, the interior is nice, with comfy seats if you’re slender. Oh, and ssslllllooooooowwwwwwwwww….. The Nav system is gorgeous, it handles and stops well too. The ralliart is pretty nice but looks nothing like that concept.

red car looks nice, in an interesting tuner-style way. not great, because the evo has never looked stunning, but it looks refreshing.

the pics in the beginning look like ass. looks like a fake R34. the seats scream "welcome to the FUTURE of seating" and just make me think how dated those will look 10 years from now.

If you focus on the side-view mirrow, the car starts looking like a SRT-4...not cool.
I think new cars have to grow on people. When the bug-eye WRX's came out, I absolutely hated them. But, before I bought my S14, I was considering buying one cause they turned out to be my favorite. Same with the 05+ Mustangs. I love how they look now, but thought they were ugly muscle car replicas when they first came out.

yah that black car is screaming SRT-4 at me, then those rims look exactly like the TL type-S rims. Anyways, my question is, didnt Mitsubishi say sometime ago that theyre building this car to compete with the BMW M3??? If thats what they were aiming for, they are abso-fucking-lutely off the damn mark!!!

They should have kept the iron block which could handle more hp. That is what is so great about the 4g63. They only lost 27.5lbs.

Found this photo, starting to wonder why I have hated this car. It's growing on me. Someone photoshop the stickers off.

I read the Car And Driver review of it. They started the article off by saying, "If you an Evo fanboy read don't keep reading."

They basically said not as fast in a straight line but it's cornering is far superior to the outgoing model. They also implied that it was less fun to drive. But you point in in the direction you want it to go, and it just goes.

It is growing on me each day. I just hate how they make every evo look like a wagon. Doesn't have to be slammed, but shit mini vans have less wheel gap then an evo. I know it's based off a rally car. but come on who the fuck is going to be doing that.

I'll admit that I like the rear of the previous model more, but overall, I don't think the car looks any worse. Personally, I never liked the front end of the evo, and think this is an improvement. Also, the rear of the new evo looks much better with the wing. evo IX's look pretty goofy without a wing too.

I don't think it looks THAT bad, but I HATE how if you get in any type of front end collision you are going to kill the headlights.

Also if you look at this picture from their site the car from the wheel back starts to look like and older EVO then the rising rear window throws it off.

agreed. I found the STi to be an overall more attractive package. The only thing I don't care for is the fact that its a hatch. Otherwise, it seems to improve on the original STi formula, and keep its weight very close to the 07 model. I think it'll expand it's customer base, and maybe attract a few more buyers with the slight added rinement. Another plus for the STi, is that now you can fit a lot wider wheels and tires. IIRC, someone on IWSTI.com fitted a 315 width tire. Its a def improvement over the current model, where you'd be hard pressed to even fit 9" wide wheels and/or 255 width tires.

The EVO X I think made too much compromise by going upscale, but IMO falling short. It may alienate a lot of their existing customers, and fail to impress those who have 39k to blow on a BMW or whatever.

that red south coast one above makes the car look a million times better.

like many of you, i prefer the older styling of the IV-VI. everything past that got too large and 'normal' looking for my tastes. the evo was all about the boxy flares that spawned from WRC. giant fog lights, and huge over-the-top wings.

i hate new cars.... atleast mitsubishi gives you the option of a stick instead of paddles.

Well different wheels and a drop certainly made a difference here. The STi has grown on me a ton, this one is starting to as well.

Yeah the one nice part about it is the improved build quality.

however, they shoudl have at least matched the old one on power/weight

what is this massive balooning in size of sport compacts

3350 lbs? are you fucking serious?

thats almost 1000 lbs heavier than my S13 :eek3d:

Yeah, all these new cars are pigs.

The nice thing is, the X's have been making 290awhp (91 oct, mustang dyno) with just bolt ons.

Most X's here in norcal have been base lining around 210 -220awhp. +70awhp with just an intake and exhaust + piggyback is pretty amazing. (even if it's a crappy vishnu tune. :keke: )

Just traded my 06 STi for an Evo x about a month ago. I have put in 1300 miles since, and did a track day at Streets of Willow. I initially intended only to browse, b/c i was bored on a sunday afternoon and had nothing better to do. Plus, the X's sold for $100 over invioce close to my area, so i thought why not. I was sold on the evo, because it far surpassed my expectations.

Note I liked my STi a lot. I thought the prev gen EVO was more fun to drive, but it was too harsh as a daily. Basically my STi was a better compromise for a daily, and was a very well rounded car. Where the STi feel short was in the excessive power steering assist, vague shifter feel, lousy stereo, and mediocre seats that were too large.

The performance was def there, but the feedback was not. Feedback came in the form of tire noise, slip, and body roll. It was a car I did not really feel comfy to drive hard unless I had a lot of experience with it. My biggest grip with the STi, was also that it just wasn't a fun car to drive around unless it was driven 9/10 super-fast. putting around town at regular speeds, it felt somewhat camry-esque. I respected the STi, but couldn't say I was passionate about it. I was able to keep it under 10k for the year and a half without much trouble.

The EVO X I test drove made up for almost every issue I had with the STi. In short, because of the EVO's harder steering feel, excellent hugging Recaros, better (but not perfect) shifter, less body roll, and maybe even better brakes the EVO X was a very confidence inspiring car. between the confidence factor, and possibly better suspension/tires, the car feels like it corners much better than the STi. To me, the EVO was a lot more fun to drive. Ride quality isn't too bad either. Suspension isn't too harsh on the streets.

As for the SSS pkg, I thought it was a good deal being an 1,800-1,700 option. The upgraded stereo is not exceptional (may replace the hu w/ better ipod integration, speakers, and get an amp), but it is decent and prob most will be pleased. HID's are awesome, no doubt. The key fob is a very cool conveneince feature. The rear wing hinders rear visability somewhat, but this is not something I care about coming from an STi. If anything, the wing isn't big enough! :P

My qualms with the EVO is that the theme of bieng upscale is very inconsistent. The exterior is certainly classy, and I like it a lot. The seats are first class no doubt. Driving the car around, the suspension and chassis feels very solid (and moreso than the STI. However, the interior plastics could still use improvement. Also, the car is loud at highway cruising. Its at 4000rpm at 80mph. My STi would be around 3,200. I think a 6-spd would have helped tremendously with noise, and possibly mileage. I think Mitsu should not have skimped on this one. Then again, this does not bother me so much personally, as I just turn on the stereo.

Another problem I noticed, after driving it about a month, is that the paint quality is absolutely terrible. It looks good, dont get me wrong, but it's not durable at all. Paint chips are very very easy to get. THis is a car you want to throw on a clear bra all around asap. I don't even think mudflaps alone would be suffient.

I think Mitsu is mistaken if they will steal any prospective bmw/audi customers. the sense of being upscale just isn't there. it may come across as being more acceptable to those not looking for a luxury brand, as well as those who are driving WRX/STIs, Z's, and such but it's not at the level of refinement of a german auto.

Another concern is that the EVO X feels a bit slow on the straights. This is not so much a complaint as it is a concern. I actually don't care too much about a car going too fast in the straights, as long as its reasonable. It is really odd that there has been such a huge discrepancy in accelaration of the car between different auto reviews. Some list the car going as quick is 4.6 to as slow as 5.5. The STi could have been plausible as a low 4 sec accelerating car, but no way with the X. This is ultimately unscientific as I am resorting to the butt dyno, but I don't think most ppl would be impressed by it's acceleration in town or on the highway. I feel it has gotten a bit quicker now, so maybe there is break in period that takes a bit longer than the factory suggested 600 mi duration.

For me, this is an excellent car that it extremely fun to drive! Overall it is a more balanced performance car than my STi. Comfort is better in some ways, but compromised on other aspects. You can't have everything, but you cant really complain for the price you pay.

Shortly afterwards, I took my x to a track event at streets of willow CCW. I had done Streets several times before in my miata and eg civic, but never with a awd car, and never in the CCW config. I had hired some intruction for the first two sessions and rented a transponder to make better use of my seat time.

I will say the X is very capable in that it handles extraodinarly well, esp considering all the weight it carries. It is very forgiving, but it is also not easy to pull good times and not as easy to learn to drive well say as a civic or a miata. The transition between understeer and oversteer, while was always forgiving and the car never spun, felt like it took a bit a feel to get used to. This is good, in that I know there will be much to learn and have fun with before I become accustomed to the car's limit.

Also, the traction control needs to be turned off. The X's traction control is far too intrusive. Whenever it sense any slip, it promptly reduces a huge amount of the throttle. in tight corners, this was murder. Regardless, i decided to play it safe and keep the asc on for this event.

At the end of the day, my fastest lap was 1:35.86. There was another x on the track with modified robi-spec coilovers, alignment, exhaust, and traction control disabled that did 1:27:something. There was also a not yet released X MR and a few STi's on the track. Some members on evolutionm.net were documenting different settings of the stock and modified x's and STi's. I can post them up here when they release their report.

While there is some truth in that an idiot can drive this car in that it will be hard to crash, i do not think just any idiot can manage to drive this well.

here's a pic from the track;

Here's an article on the evo x vs. the 08 STi that I thought was rather interesting. yes, its from an evo forum but I think it's convincing given they also give credit to the STi in where it stands out.

I was also there that day when they did the testing on the new evo/sti, and it was a lot fun to share the track with them :)
