Unless your heavily modded i would'nt. The enviro damage just isn't worth the 1 HP it will give.

not heavily modded but i was looking for a better sound/stronger and a little bit of a less restrictive flow because i can tell the exhuast is a little restrictive i have a 2.5 custom cat back

I'd get some headers before I went cat-less. Seriously, it's not worth the gains on an NA car.

i hollowed my cat and it isnt worth it, the only thing it did was the deeper sound, so i put a stock one back on. I also noticed that the exhast smelled ALOT different. I say stay with a cat. I couldnt pass smog either.

My opinion (deposit 2 cents):
If your car is enough of a street car to have a stereo or a back seat, then it is not enough of a race car to have a gutted/missing cat.
