Im sick of this dam rattle

i sick of this dam rattle when im driving around and im doing a steady speed and then there is this dam rattle from what seems to be from the dash. sounds like metal on metal like a loose screw. please help me! i hate it when im talking to someone (especially girls) and then starts the dam rattle! thanks in advance for sharing you wealth of information (or bullshit depending of your mood) with me

Some people say its the heatshield on your exhaust (not header) I have the same thing but only get it when I let off the gas.

I get the same rattle and it drives me nuts. &nbsp;mostly when I slow down without braking or constant speed in 2nd gear. &nbsp;I hate it!!

I have a rattle noise that sounds like &quot;racking billiard balls&quot;. &nbsp;It sounds like it comes from within the door (pasenger side). &nbsp;It goes away when I roll down the window slightly. &nbsp;Any ideas?

for the door, maybe the window is loose? (just guessing), i've installed the passanger side window on my s13 before (someone decided to smash it...), there are bolts down low, maybe you want to tighten it?

as for the rattling, i've posted here before, and i've seen another post shortly after mine, there was a remedy, but it wasn't quite clearly given. &nbsp;so somone out there, hello? need help down here.

i get the freakin rattling noise around 3ooo rpm, it annoys the #### outta me, it sounds like it's in the dash, eveytime my friend has to comment on it... &quot;it reminds me of a rice car w/ a bad exhaust&quot;...

p.s. after replacing my window, i get a whissle noise from the upper part of the window, when i drive on freeways or at fast speed, any remedy for this?

anything that is at a specific RPM occurs because the vibration matches the natural frequency of the material (or some shit like that) and it starts to shake, this is MOST OFTEN the heat shield, there are 2-3 on our cars i think and it could sound like it's coming from the dash because the cat is about directly under our feet and i think it has a heat shield

i think it's pretty obvious the window isn't forming a perfect seal and pretty much the only remedy for it is to reinstall the window or put some new (read thicker) weather stripping on to hopefully make a better seal

gh606.... Your rattle sounds like the one I have in mine. It is apparently, a common thing on 240/200's. The cause &nbsp;is a metal bar that runs across the top of the stereo headunit in the centre of the dash. Take off the panel and put some foam tape between them. </td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>If the s13 dash is like the s14 (and I am pretty sure it is) its just the middle part. Take your shift knob off, then that plastic part around it the shifter. That should uncover the lower screws for your center plastic dash part thing...undo all the screws you can find (theres one behind the ashtray also) and then it should come out in two peices. the top part with your air vents just snaps in I think so just give it a good (but gentle) pull...don't rip it off. Then the bottom peice should just lift off as well, it may snap in...I'm not sure. I broke mine really bad...its held in with only 2 screws now and there are a lot of plastic bits and hooks missing, looks fine on the outside though <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
