I spent a little while searching trying to determine if the alternator I have will work. I have an alternator from a 1999 Quest. I originally got it for my Frontier, but the alt in my S14 is on its way out the door. All the info I found while searching didn't really answer my question.

Will the 99 Quest alternator fit my KA24DE in my S14. It is 125 amps vs. the 110 amp alt in the older Quests. It does have the 4 ribbed pulley. I have compared it to pics of the ones I found posted here and they look the same, but that doesn't mean anything. I'd hate to spend the time tearing into my car and find out it doesn't fit. Especially since I have to drill out the holes. I will still use it in my Frontier if someone can verify it won't fit.

Thanks in advance for the help!

there was a thread by brokeass240 that mentioned something about using the quest alternator. I remembered that it would fit but needed some modifications.

For anyone that wants just a little more amperage than the 110 amps the 97 and earlier Quests alternator have... I have confirmed the 99-02 Quest alternator fits with the same modifications to the earlier alternator. Its rated at 125 amps.

I don't think there is a difference in the size between the older Quest alts and the newer one. I did have some issues with it hitting the pipe under the intake manifold and only have about 3/4" to 1" of adjustment. That put the pulley and belt close to the radiator hose. I pulled the little tube up a little and got about 1 1/2" of adjustment. I haven't noticed any ill effects from this as of yet. I will update if anything weird starts happening.

I didn't try the pulley off of the KA alternator. It just looked like it would have the same issue. The Quest pulley worked the same way. I just used the ribs at the rear of the pulley. I ended up needing a 31.5" belt also.

I also replaced my battery terminals and battery cables while I was replacing the alt. I ran 1/0 guage wires in place of the ground wires and ran a new 1/0 guage wire directly from the alternator to the battery. Basically did the Big 3 upgrade.

This upgrade is 100 times easier to do if you remove your fan and fan shroud. I tried to do it without removing all of that, but after looking at it for about half an hour I just took it out.

I also wanted to throw out a huge THANKS! to the people that did the writes up and provided the pictures.
