View Full Version : Clutch chattering from TOB??

So I picked up a new s13 for a dd that needed the clutch replaced so I ordered an XTD stage 3 from egay for like 150. After pulling the tranny and having the flywheel resurfaced it was ready to go back in. I took the throw-out bearing to a shop to have it pressed on and the guy told me it was bent slightly. I was in a big hurry to get this car running so I asked him if it would be a big deal to put it in the way it was and he said "no, it should be fine."
I thought it seemed like a bad idea but I needed a car so I put it in. Now, I've had chatter with these clutches before but not much. This car is shaking so bad I feel like its gonna break something. I also filled the tranny mount with window weld when I had it out because it was broken and I know this causes vibration as well. It seems to do it worse when the car warms up too. Later I realized I had another TOB laying around my garage but dropping the tranny with the tools I currently have is such a pain in the ass and Id like to figure out if that would cause this before I go and drop it again.

No experience with the clutch you got but if it is a 6 puck, 4 puck, whatever puck disk it is going to chatter a bit. If its unsprung it can be worse. Now your tranny mount is stiffer because of this filler you added now the vibrations are going to be more pronounced. A bad throw out bearing should make a grinding like noise from my experience.

sorry, forgot that part. yeah its a sprung 6-puck. theres no grinding just serious vibration when I take off and engine brake. The bearing spun good but the casing of it was slightly bent.

Maybe check to see if your drive shaft is loose or if the center bushing/balancer need to be replaced.

Don't understand why you did this. TBs are cheap and can be found easily.

the pressure plate is loose causing the fingers not to completely mate with it...my best guess..

i did the same install just the other day and my clutch also chatters quite a bit when first engaging around corners.
Its normal with a 6 puck and the mounts make the car rattle like crazy above 3krpm

Replace that sleave. If it truly is bent, the clutch is not disengaging/engaging properly.

I torqued it down I dont see how it could be loose.

he didnt replace the throwout bearing in the first place.
i think its the clutch.
my experience with that brand was pretty bad.
i had stage 2 single disk. no 6 puck or 4 puck.
and it had HORRIBLE chatter.
aside from that it didnt engage because of a weak pressure plate.

XTD is pretty horrible. I mean it gets the job done but they are so noisy.
I have one in my daily driver and that thing is super noisy.
...But yours def sounds like something is bent/bad in there.

Im getting some chattering with my set up too, resurfaced flywheel and F1 stage 3 6puck clutch. I change the TB and made sure to torque all the bolts properly.
i also replaced with megan motor and tranny mounts and my car rattles like hell, sounds like something is going to break. im kinda afraid to drive it , i dont want to fuck anything up, but it will be almost impossible to drop the tranny cuz i dont have a lift to get it back in. >_<

i read up that F1 clutches have alot of chatter. could be the way the clutch is.
