Hey whats up, just asking you guys for advice. I have a stock s14 and was debating wether to go the sr route or the turbo k route. motor has 200,000 on it tho, but runs strong. Was thinking of maybe a rebuild but my concern now is the tranny. It shifts smoothly and never pops out of gear, however when going into reverse it will grind, and sometimes grind into gear. Someone told me it needed a new clutch, but for some reason I think it might be the tranny, what do you guys think. Maybe I should hold out for a while and just get an sr swap. If not maybe start with a new clutch for my K, any thoughts? O the car did come with a b n m short shifter if that matters. I remember one of my cars grinded more when I had put a short shifter in it previously.

theres two things you can do to prevent the tranny from getting any worse
1) put the car in reverse before you start it , that way it wont grind
2) tap the gas pedal a little bit then quickly put it in reverse..
i had the same problem with my 84 300zx which i beleive share similar transmissions.. the synchros go bad.. but its not the end of the world, i never had to replace the transmission

The Z31 does use the same transmission. To the OP, change the fluid, see if that helps, you've probably got 200k mile sludge in it.

Stock clutch? It might not be adjusted properly, and you're not disengaging all the way. First step is definitely to change the tranny fluid.

Second step is to get that SR :)

check the nuts that hold up the clutch master cylinder they some times come loose if you not using lock washers and check your fuild level and the rubber or steel braded slave cylinder line for leaks.

Just change the fluid. If that doesnt help then pick up a tranny when ever one becomes available for cheap and keep it for the day your tranny locks up. Trannys are not expensive and you can still have the same problem with an sr so don't base your choice of swap or build on that alone.
