Ive never had to do a 5 lug swap before because my last 2 240s were 5 lug, I now own a 4 lug but have a crashed 240 se in my driveway. So I searched but couldnt find the answer to this question....maybe its out there but I was getting tired of reading threads. When ppl do their 5 lug swaps are they impacting out the 32mm and 36mm bolts in the center? I tried to pull that thing by hand and theres no way I could possibly do it cause the hub just wants to spin. Also doesnt seem like any stores around me carry 32mm and 36mm impact sockets, so id have to order them online. Should I go ahead with this and try and impact these things off or am I going down the wrong road? I read some threads that said they swapped over the whole knuckle, at this point this seems a little easier...so should I be looking to swapping over the knuckle as a whole? Like I said never had to do this before so sorry for the n00b qestion

Impact Gun -- YES
Impact Socket -- NO
Don't worry about ordering a special Socket for the job. A regular socket will work just fine for this job. Now, if you were doing 5-lug swaps twice a week for a few months straight, then YES I'd say get the impact Socket. The fact is though, once you do the swap, you'll likely NEVER use the sockets again.
Good luck.

Just get the regular socket at your local auto parts store or any store that sells tools, like home depot, sears, etc. I don't have an impact gun so I just use my trusty four foot pipe for leverage! Impact would be best though, esp on the rear hubs.

yea just go rent sockets from autozone or something. I used my torque wrench to tighten it or a breaker bar. Just make sure you retorque it a week later again. if the hub just wants to spin then drop the other side or have somebody hold down the other side with another wrench.

Im going to try a prybar and some PB blaster...any other suggestions?

Yes, you HAVE to remove the four bolts in the rear, how do you think the bearing is attached to the upright?

Leave the rear four bolts threaded in a bit and just bang away at them. You won't be using your old hubs anyway. Hitting the bolts will slowly start loosening them up. Don't forget to use some WD-40 there too.

That can seriously damage the bolts though. Hitting just the back of the bearing, with the bolts removed, is a lot safer.

OP did you not read my pm to ya?
Did you take the axle out?
Probably going to be way easier.

Yeah dude hit those 4 (19mm) bolts up with some PB Blaster let them soak and break them loose. You probably will need to get a nice leverage pipe because its a tight for air tools...for me it was.
Also they can be a pain in the neck to reach, so bust out the extensions, and obviously rotate the axle so that you can get to all of them. Torque it to about 160 ft lb

okay bite the shit out of the 4lug rear huds spray alot of wd-40 and keep hitting it till they come off then spray the knuckle with more wd-40 and wipe it clean then take some sand paper and sand any rust off and re-spray agian with wd-40 then install the e-brake assmbly and put the four bolts back on. tools you need 36mm 19mm wd-40 impact gun or brake bar(steel pole) and sand paper optional.

I used my impact and a three prong hubpuller to get the hubs off works easy as shit. that or a slide hammer bolted to the studs

Wow, i guess all 240sx's are different then. For the rears, I just zapped off the 4 bolts and smacked the hub with soft mallet and it all come undone. I didn't even have to use WD40. I also probably just jinxed myself for the next time I do a 5-lug swap. :smash: Good luck with it.
Oh yeah, +1 for not buying an impact socket. A regular one is more than enough. Just don't expect CHEAP regular sockets hold up...

aight so I got the rear hubs off with with the whole Lower control arm attatched....is there any reason why I shouldnt just swap over there whole LCA knuckle and hub? seems like that would be way easier
