Ok. This maybe a stupid question.

I see these Injen, OBX and K&N ram air and other
high air induction kits .... now, what I wanna know is...
would there be any difference in having the whole
replacement kit (Cone Filter, Polished Alum. Tube, etc).
VS. the Standard replacement cone head that replaces
just OEM standard black filter box ... that go for only like
... 40 bucks?

The 150 - 300 bucks for ram air is INSANE! I plan on doing
my exhaust over, upgrading to a MSD Blaster coil, NGK
wires and Iridium plugs, ... not to much more for right now!

I would think the stock tube supplies more than enough air,
or more air that what the actual  engine needs.  Just
the box would restrict the incoming air.

Is it worth it? Or would I be throwing my money away.

My personal guess is a CAI would make as much or more power than all those ignition upgrades for less money.  No dyno sheets to prove it, but it seems like overkill on such a stock car.  Just get a set of NGK's for $4 and some new wires, cap and rotor.  If the existing hardware is old, it's probably good for a hp or two.

Most people claim to feel the difference even between the Injen short ram and the CAI extension.  It's certainly not cheap though, but neither is a full ignition setup.

Yeah, i wouldn't worry about that MSD stuff unless you plan on going turbo, suerpcharging or nitrous. As for the the bolt on filters, i think they work almost as well as an intake. The stock pipe isn't at any point any smaller than the MAFS so I don't think a full intake will make much difference. Maybe a little because the stock pipe isn't a consistant shape.

The CAI made a good difference on my car...

i didnt buy one though.. i made one myself... overall.. cost me approx 50 canadian dollars.. thats like 30 u.s.

all u need is a 180 degree mandrell bent pipe... a powerdrill.. a hacksaw.. some strong corrosive cleaning product, rubber clamps, vinyl tubes.. and spray paint...

Uh... a short ram is much different than the stock tube. Think of it as mandrel bent exhaust and crush bent. Both do the job yet people bitch at crush bent cuz it lessens flow. Same with the intake. thats where you get the power on the short ram. CAE on the other hand is the thing that actually gives you cold air letting you fit more of it inside. That's why i think CAE actually gives u as much (or maybe even more) than the SRE.

All the ignition stuff u listed is a waste of money on a stock car.

Now about the self made stuff. The replacement filters that they sell really cheap on ebay are crap. The let too much dirt through. The K&N kits cost like $55. That's the best you can get for the money. Yet they come with a universal adapter. So depending on what year u got you'd have to mod.

Final thoughts, do what KAMRAN did. Get a u-bend. figure out what and where to saw. get the hoses and stuff. Then get a k&n filter kit, weld a bung for thermo (if you need one) and there ya go. Would run about $80. Get another u bend and that would prolly be good enough for a CAE. So yeah, custom intake for under $100

I have the Injen Cold Air setup and in my opinion it is much bettter than the stock piping.  I did have the stock with a cone replacement filter but that didnt seem to do shit for me.  It just made a little noise.

I have no stock parts left in my air system except the throttle body and its sweet now.
