Just bought a 240sx and the car has a horrible gas smell in the cabin also at idle the motor misses (rocks left to right like it wants to die). When you drive the car it runs fairly well but it still has a slight miss. Sometimes when you crank the car it want start but if you just turn the ignition to the on position and let the car prime for 6sec it will fire up.
One more thing while driving the battery and brake light flicker on and off with the movement of the motor but the car doesn't turn off (I think it's a ground issue). Is there a chance that one thing could cause all of these problems.

sure there's a chance. But sounds like you got multiple issues. I would address the fuel smell first and foremost.
Tip: If you smell pure fuel...then you've got a fuel leak. Most likely in your fuel pump access lid. Someone prolly pulled the lid off and never replaced the o-ring under there. You're getting spillage from this lid. Get a new o-ring from the dealer for like 7 bucks.
The other problems sound like tune-up & ground issues. New filters, plugs/wires, check main grounds. Clean battery terminals. You know basic tune-up maintenance issues.

i would just RTV the crap out of the fuel pump access lid then tighten the lid again.
as far as the lights bliping on and off check the connection to your alternator
make sure your grounds are clean and not corroded to shit.

Bad idea los_inc. Simply because your gas tank is under extreme vaccuum. If you manage to suck in some of that RTV inside the tank, then pick it up with the pump. It'll clog your pick up screen.
Thsi might work with S14 tank lid but the S13 has the o-ring and it's just a bitch to get that lid back on properly, with no leaks. Takes alot of patience.

Ok I have 4 codes p0115, 01401, p0125, p1400
p0115 = coolant temp sensor - fail safe operation FSM EC-111
p1401 = EGR temp sensor FSM EC-255
p0125 = coolant temp sensor FSM EC-121
p1400 = EGRC solenoid valve FSM EC-251
you got some work to do.... :p
Download an FSM to get the repair steps. 240sxedge.com has them for every year.
hope this helps.

Yeah the guy I bought he car from put another motor in (stock ka24de) and there are vacuum lines that aren't hooked up so i figured that was part of the problem. This really discourages me. Thanks for the help.

See the 2 plugs with nothing plug into them and the vacuum lines going to the green sensor but nothing is plug into it. Is it suppose to be like that or is something wrong.

wtf dual cams have that shit hanging on top???? So this motor came out of a s13. As far as the gas smell when I have the windows down it's really strong but when I have the windows up and a/c on you really can't smell gas it's still there but not as bad. Also I took the metal fuel pump cover off and took a sniff around the fuel pump and it didn't seem to strong around that area. Hope that narrows it down.

Could someone tell me what those sensors are and were they go.
For the guys who's fuel pump o-ring needed to be replaced when you got close to was the smell strong. It comes from that area but when I get really close it's not that strong. Maybe it only smells strong when you drive.

Sorry here's the link again.
http://www.240edge.com/manuals/usdm-cars.html
It was 240edge.com not 240sxedge.com. Sorry my bad.
As far as the vaccuum lines disconnected, It looks like he disconnected the EVAP canister purge control solenoid lines.
The one on the right goes into the EVAP canister purge control valve. I'm not sure where the other one goes.
The diagram is in the FSM, EC section, page 13. On page 12 you can follow the routing from the control solenoid to find out where the other line goes. I'm thinking it goes back to the purge canister but I'm not sure.

What about the connector to the right in that picture,do you have any idea where it goes. Thanks for the help I would have been lost without it since this is my first nissan.
As far as the gas smell its coming from the fuel pump area but im not positive its the o-ring seal it was replaced in June. Do you guys think it could have been installed wrong.

I honestly can't tell where that connector goes. Just look around for an open connector and see if it fits! I really dont remember there being a connector running along the injector wires like that.

Question where is the egr and canister control valve located at on a 95 2
40sx.

Is the egr solenoid suppose to have a connector going to it. If anyone could post pics of the intake manifold(95 240sx) area that would be great.

Ok finally found a decent pic. Is that the egr and canister control valve on the right.

The EGR valve is the one just outside your pic to the right. The one in the pic is the EGRC-BPT valve. Another part of the emissions system. The one you need to clean is the EGR valve, which is basically taking it off the engine, and disassembling it and soaking it in brake clean.
Here's a pic of the emissions system layout. You should be able to figure out what gets plugged in where.

You know in this pic, now that I look at it again, it looks like that loose plug wire is extended from the fuel rail. What does the other end of it look like? If you disconnect that little section of wiring, will the main harness plug fit into the open solenoid connector?
Just a thought. Mostly cause I don't remember there being a wire going on top of the rail wiring like that.

Man this is so confusing. So your saying the egr control valve is not in the 2nd pic I posted. The reason I assumed it was is because the fsm points to that area in one of the diagrams. If some one could post pics of there mostly stock engine bay that would be the quickest way I could figure this out thanks.

Any help please. I think this motor is out of a 96-97 240sx

yes it is. That is an obd2 motor. I believe that green plug is a map sensor RELATED sensor. Like the on/off or somthing similar.
