Opinions on homade CAI. Made it for less than 10 bucks

I spent about 9 bucks. I ended up using the oe tb tube and a pcv elbow for iacv($2). A peice of intake piping I got for free($0). 2 1/2 exhaust flex pipe from advance auto($5). Walmart flower pot ($1). Lint screen($0),had it in garage. Black knee high's from piggly wiggly ($.80). I already had the couplers and clamps.

It made a huge difference. I didn't do too shabby against a 2005 GT stang tonight. "patting my self on the back" This is a prototype i guess you can say. I will eventually eleminate the flex pipe, tb pipe, and flower pot. The pipes are going to be replaced with smooth normal Al. piping. The v. stack will be replaced by a sheet metal box that can be fitted with a flat airbox style K & N.

I'm wondering if you could use the cold air extension of any KA aftermarket intake for the flex part? That way you could mount up a standard filter. Looks like it might fit with little cutting.

You have to figure out a way to put some kind of filter in there. And in my opinion you would have a better design with the intake in the engine bay and then build a heat shield. Water getting in the intake is not a good thing.

yeah this Cold Air is cool i guess... but its going to suck when it rains... Hydro lock!! i think i will stick with my INJEN intake with the extension on it...

Trust me since I put it on I check the weather before I roll out. It sounds amazing. Instead of that throaty sound it had you sound it just sucking in air. I keep my tools in my car and my K&N cone. I will make it so it is easily removed during rainy days. I was just seeing if it was worth pursuing first. The batter is in the back on the passenger side (I did that for 40 bucks). That wire was hidden when battery was there but I will solder it then heat shrink too. The cone would fit but I may lose some top end by air not being force in. Eventually all you will see in that bumper vent is a K&N sittin behind it. I am going to box it in with sheet metal. Thanks a lot for input, I know reading this will be hard with all the rambling.

and yeah dude, thats probably one of the better homemade setups ive seen in ages....

when i worked @ toyota/scion, you shoulda seen the crap kids would try on TCs and whatnot...

....one kid had his MAF sensor electrical taped into a hole he cut with a knife in the tubing....

i voided his warranty on the spot, cause he refused to reason with me and change it.
he trade the car in for a corolla two weeks later LOL

but yeah, im interested to see the final product, how big of a filter/box are you going to put in?

Actually today I thought of using a stock airbox so there would be no fabrication or welding with sheet metal. Just sticking the air box in bumper slot and smacking a K&N in it. Thanks for input.

Nice! I'm sure it made a pretty big improvement in sound. My lil' bro did the "air box mod" on his Mazda 6 and you could just hear it sucking in air. Mmm, this makes me want to redo my intake and ic piping very, very soon...

Give it some time and everything will be smoothed out and perfected. The maf by the way is closest it can get w/o disrupting its air flow or screwing w/ readings by being much closer than before. I tried puting it directly on tb using a coupler knowing it prob wouldn't work and my instincts were right. Ran like pur tee shit. I'm gonna try to get maf away from rad hose and move it a little further away; but we'll see. Trying to save some dough though for boost.

To shabby as in, 6-8 cars? They run low 13's out of the box. Your 240 runs high 14's/low 15's.
