Its funny how people freaked out when this happened. I love the idiot who says "I didnt see anyone resisting arrest." It was public forum, with a line for questions. You stand in the line civilly and you ask your question when its your turn. Your right to free speech does not include walking to the front of that line, past everyone else, being obnoxious when you are asked to take a seat. The guy was warned repeatedly and was only getting more out of control.
If your going to do shit like this, dont scream like a 3 year old when you get tasered. Your ass knew it was coming, man up.

If the those assholes needed a tazer to subdue that man maybe they need new jobs. at no point did he do any thing remotely illegal, he was wrong but that didn't require any of that.

cleans13 made a good point, i mean come the fuck on....
he walks up and literally disrespects the speaker by saying "he got 2 hours to speak, i can have a few minutes" ........... what the FUCK.
dont get me wrong, there were better ways to handle the situation. like putting a muzzle on his ass and dragging him outside. there was enough muscle there to drag him out completely. i just think the taser isnt necessary.
reminds me of kids who disrespect their parents and when they reach that point, dad busts out the whip and says "RUSSEL...! Someones gonna get'a hurt....!"
haha man that guy was outta line though.

There has been issues with UF Campus police for some time now. Now they just pwned them selfs.
Probe ordered in Tasering of University of Florida student
September 19, 2007 09:36 EDT
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The University of Florida's president has asked for a state probe of campus police actions after a student was Tasered during a forum featuring Senator John Kerry.
The president says the forcible takedown of 21-year-old Andrew Meyer was "regretful." He has placed two officers on leave.
Kerry says he has never had a dialogue end that way in 37 years of public appearances. He tells The Associated Press, whatever happened, the police made their decision that there was something they needed to do.
During the altercation, Kerry is heard saying, "let me answer his question." Meyer can be heard crying out to a police officer, "Don't Tase me, bro."
Meyer has been released from jail on his own recognizance. The State Attorney's Office has yet to decide on formal charges.

i think to myself what if i was in that situation
for one, i wouldnt call the officer "BRO"
dont taser me.... BRO????
at this point, i would shut the fuck up and be quiet. i wouldnt move because i wouldnt want to risk say, you know.. getting shot? i dunno, but you dont want to mess with people with itchy trigger fingers.
lucky that shit was a taser. cant underestimate how stupid police can be. i was handcuffed in high school for having "office summonses" - what a nice court case that made.

shit is hilarious
they were removing him from the building, you're supposed to do what they say
other wise they can bust your ass
the second he flailed his arms while the cops were trying to remove him could be considered assault/disobeying a police a police officer
after that he kept on resisting and caused the situation to escalate until they tasered him
my piece of advise don't talk shit to the cops when they tell you to do something if it seems unreasonable ask them for their badge number ect.
don't go flyin off the wall and then say don't tase me

That's right sheep. Do what the government says. The government is never wrong. Don't question the government.
After all, the government knows what's best for you, even if you don't think so.
Oh, by the way, where did you read that the guy jumped in line? Even if he did, does that deserve being arrested?

09-19-2007, 06:12 PM
What a bunch of bullshit!
Okay, the guy was annoying. The last time I checked that wasn't illegal, and if it were, it'd be a retarded law.
No, this guy actually had the balls to stand up to a politician - a public servant - and ask him to explain himself. Gee, isn't that one of the great tenets of a representative democracy, that you have ability, the right, to confront and address public officials?
Then I noticed, the guy was actually done speaking when the cops decided to move in.
Wow, way to defuse a tense situation!
The guy was done for Christ's sake.
Then the cops start with the same old crap that cops always spout off when they have nothing else to say, "quit resisting, quit resisting, "calm down". The path of least resistance for Mr. Meyer would have been to do exactly what the cops say. But would that have been the right approach? Don’t stand up for your rights, the government (police) know what’s best for you. That’s a dangerous line of thinking.
After all, the same people that seem to fully agree with the way this individual was treated also seem to endlessly tout of phrases like "I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees".
So the kid was standing up for himself, asking why he was being arrested (the cops never mentioned why until the end) and decided he wasn't going down without a proper explanation. Then he gets tasered for asking - rightfully - why he's being arrested without getting an answer. Yes, this guy was obviously a menacing danger, what with his incessant talking and such. He should be glad he wasn’t shot with a 9mm.
You know what? This kid deserves a medal!
Then, finally, after everything is said and done they charge him under the guise of "inciting a riot".
Are you kidding me!!! A riot!
The guy was using his constitutionally guaranteed right to free speech and he's being charged with inciting a riot?!
I must've missed the tons of flaming debris that the audience was hurling towards Kerry or the police. Or the rampant looting. Or the mayhem and violence that Mr. Meyer’s speech was causing.
Actually, no, I didn't miss it. Because that didn't happen. No, instead I heard a couple of claps and cheers from the audience in response to some of the points this guy brought up.
If Florida police think that was a riot I'd hate to find out what they think of a frat party. They'd probably classify it as a terrorist attack or World War III.
This guy is surrounded by half-a-dozen cops and not a single one has the common sense to tell him why he's being arrested?
I mean, I could see if a single cop is engaged in a struggle with a suspect and the emotion and adrenaline take over how that wouldn't be your first priority. But come on, not a single one of them could muster up their focus and come out with the words, "you are not being arrested, you are being detained", or "you are being arrested for inciting a riot".
And when exactly did they read him his Miranda rights?
Give me a fucking break...

Oh, by the way, where did you read that the guy jumped in line? Even if he did, does that deserve being arrested?
Said John Kerry, "He barged to the front of the line and started to ask questions."
It was not illegal to be annoying but it is disturbing to the many other people waiting in line to ask their question. Is this kids opinion worth more than the rest of the peoples in line? Who knows what the next person in line could have asked? Obviously the questions were not rehearsed.
The fact that he moved infront of everyone inline and caused a disturbance is the reason he was asked to sit down or he would be removed from the venue. Easy as pie.
You have the right and ability to question public officials all you want, do so in a timely and a cool manner. Act like a fucking retard and you get treated like one.
Furthermore, the audience was laughing, as the guy was clearly badgering Kerry instead of asking a simple question. Skull and bones? I bet thats vital to questioning "THE GOVERNMENT." This was nothing more than a joke that got out of control and now every Guy Fox wants to pin a medal on his chest.
Almost forgot: Cops are allowed to put you into handcuffs before mirandizing you.

thats fucking disgusting....one of his friends should have sucker punched that cop in the mouth, talk about total abuse of power. The kid was asking a legitimate question and prefacing it with background info so he would actually give it some context. He was complimenting Kerry and Kerry even said he would answer the question. That shit it total and utter abuse of power, every single one of those cops should get fired....they should also have to be held down and tazered too....If Im not mistaken that video cuts out early, I believe they tazed him a bunch of times. In all seriousness though, why would you ever taze a college kid at an open forum like that. Total lack of professionalism, I say fuck those cops and let free speech live bitches:fawkd:

when did being a dick = free speech.. If john kerry came to speak to a group of students then at least have respect enough for him.. kids these days just don't have respect.. (old codger in me) If you have a point.. please make it.. if not get off the stage.. don't waste everyones time with your lame opinion.. get a placard and do a sit in if you feel it's important..
btw this isn't his first time pulling off a public stunt on campus.. like his 5th... he's an attention whore at heart.. probably bro raped..

so if osama bin laden came to my campus we should all just sit there quietly and have a tea party? then get arrested for asking why he didnt hit the white house?

^dont compare osama and this guy. way two different subjects if you ask me.
he was resisting arrest. not sure if you can see it here but they tried to get a hold of him but he kinda pushed them off. thats resisting. sure they were out of line with the ZEEEEEEEEEEEE-AAAAAAAP!! but hey, do you think he'll try to pull that shit off again?
the way he spoke to john kerry was just disrespect. this is what happens people.

I doesn't matter that he spoke disrespectfully in regards to getting tazered. If someone came up to you and started talking disrespectfully and nothing else then you really would have no grounds to tazer that person, other than it just really being annoying. That shouldn't even been what's discussed. If he resisted and they felt like someone is at risk of getting hurt then they make a judgement call on what force is required. I don't agree with tazering the guy, but if he did shove one of them off while they were trying to remove him then I can understand why they did it. If he was just running away he doesn't really pose a threat to anyone, they just have to run after him. Which could be more hassle then they want, but it's what they are paid to do. I guess we'll have to see what happens though.
I think they should have left him to get his answer then removed him from the forum though. That way he's got his answer and, to me, I'd think he'd be a little more willing to leave. And if the case was that he cut in line, then they could keep him from any more public forums where his notorious (lol) line cutting could be a problem again.

First of all, the use of a tazer was not warranted. He was already down on the ground, subdued when they tazered him.
Second, he didn't cut in line. Apparently the moderator had decided to end the Q&A segment of the forum with several people still waiting to ask questions. Andrew Meyer (the dude that got tazed) decided to walk up to the mic anyway and ask his question.
Rude? Yes. Tactless? Sure. Reasonable grounds for arrest? I don't think so.
Besides, Kerry decided to answer his question regardless.
Whether or not his question/diatribe had any merit is subjective opinion. I thought he made some valid points and a shitty joke.
Again, nothing worth calling to be arrested.
Third, who gives a shit if he was being direspectful? Sorry, but politics isn't always a nice game where everyone gets along. Meyer always felt strongly about the points he brought up and this was reflected in the way he worded his question.
So you're gonna get all butthurt because someone wasn't all smiles and hugs when they talk to you?
Please...
"Almost forgot: Cops are allowed to put you into handcuffs before mirandizing you."
You're right.
I'll concede that point.
I still think it's wrong that you can get arrested without being informed why. Apparently, that's something determined by the individual states though. In some, the arresting officer has to tell you why, in others they don't.
I'm not a paranoid person, but something irks me about government agents being able to take you away without giving you a valid reason.

jesus christ man, he didn't get arrested for cutting in line. being arrested and being asked to leave are two different things.

same thing.
Third, who gives a shit if he was being direspectful?
i do.
as was said before, it's a public forum. even if you don't think the speaker deserves any respect, the other people in the room do. the event organizer ended questioning for a reason. sorry about your luck, see you next time.

Regardless of what he did. Most PD's Use of force continuum lists Taser as an alternative to lethal force. I do not think at any time he was so out of control that deadly force was necessary. Simple control techniques were working fine on him.
IMHO the cops were egged on by the moderator to take him down and got so hyped up they did that. Now they will prolly get pwned by their over zealous use of force.
