Hey guys, i have a 96 240sx that i need to smog, but i have check engine light on. I scanned the codes and i got a P0446 and gave me this long sentence "Evap emission control system vent circuit malfunction" I searched this forum for other evap related posts, i found some but none of them got any strong replies on how to fix it. I'm thinking about changing the evap lines, and maybe see if that works. Any ideas? thanks guys.

word

vent circuit should be your purge valve or something along that. search for that should deff be a pic of where it is/how to fix

something evap is not doing it's job. and evap = evapporative emmision control system so you know the 1st part. vent circuit should be like i said the purge valve tho.

Ok so i think i know what it is now, the evap vent control valve. Isnt that under the gas tank somewhere around that area? I have no flashlight right now so i cant check it =(.

well for anyone else that may have this problem, its the evap vent control thingie. its bolted right up to the evap canister by the fuel tank. Take it out and hook it up to the battery, simple plus and minus connection. you should hear it click, thats the silenoid opening, if not, you need a new one. Thanks.

other than checking for the clicking sound you need to apply vacuum to the valve and make sure it doesnt leak down. Then when voltage is applied, the vacuum should drop instantly. Other than that, check the lines going to and from the valve. Any leak will also set a code.

Fix the problem maybe?
