View Full Version : RB in FWD Car

I have seen pics of an RWD KA in an Altima. I was wondering if anyone else had done this to a FWD application.

The company that did this to the altima, would not share any details as to the process they went with nor any other pictures. So if anyone knows who did this i would love to see the steering system they adapted as well as the motor mount setup they chose.

Thanks

My bad, i was looking at a buddies RB, and typed in the wrong thing.

It was just a 240 engine, none the less, i am still interested in seeing how to go about certain aspects of the swap. grafting in rear strut, locating and mounting rear subframe and transfer case, steering, etc...

why would you want to do that?

might as well do a rwd integra. as far as i can recall altimas come with ka's
making it rwd is pointless and stupid and this post needs to be burned

I've seen the RWD conversion using the SR20 from a silvia in a 1st Gen altima.

Although my first Nissan was an Altima and i thought it was the shit at the time... this thread FAILS

why does this thread Fail, cause i have no rep here or i have 3 post, what if this came from some senior member, what would you guys be saying then. I came here and joined here becuase this is supposed to be a good site to get help from.

Who cares if the idea is a little off, or doesnt make sense. What and dropping a VQ in a sentra, an RB26 in a 240, an LS1 in a 240 does. Why is my idea not worthy.

shit, all i was trying to do, is see if someone knew of anyone who had done this.

HA HA HA, i can name at least 2 dozen people (off the top of my head, there are probably 40 or so that i could find) that have KA-T Altimas, including myself. Sure its rare, but how many people do you know with Rb25 swaps...

very dissapointed in this forum, i guess i will have to stick with the ka and sr boards

Well, i've seen a FWD KA in a 240. But why would you do that if there are several RWD KAs everywhere. What kind of car you trying to put the RWD KA into?

K im lost, you're asking about putting an RB into an Altima in FWD configuaration?

To answer your original question. No, I've never seen a RWD Altima. As to your theory on seniority and rep, I don't think it matter. You're getting these unfavorable responses because the idea itself is counter productive, this goes back to that RWD Integra. The juice is not worth the squeeze.

vader3120

well i have no clue why someone would want a FWD 240 :loco:

I am inquiring about changing a FWD into a RWD application, and yes the RB happens to be on my mind, but at this point i do not wish to discuss that, 1 cause i dont have all the facts yet, and 2 it doesnt seem as if you guys would like to see it done nor know why i would WANT to do it.

'senoir members' would know not to post such pointless and retarded questions. im not claiming to be a senior member, far from it but you dont see me posting any idea that pops into my head. if all the idiots was allowed to do that, then this site would turn into Nico. Besides, even if a 'senoir member' does post a thread, at the very least, they would know how to title it correctly :hammer:

and like buying and swapping a RB26 is? what ever happened to doing something cause its never been done before and the uniqueness of a different project.

The thread fails for many different reasons. First off, senior members would know better than to post this kind of nonsense. Second, you didnt include any kind of actual information about the swap (year of Altima, year of engine, budget, etc). Zilvia isnt a place for you to just sit and think out loud and waste bandwidth by posting the worthless threads that come out of your incoherent ruminations and pipe dreams.

And yes, Im sure its possible- as is anything with enough money. But... Why...?

very dissapointed in this forum, i guess i will have to stick with the ka and sr boards

See ya.

MavericStephenc

the reason why the juice is not worth the squeeze is because you will spend so much time and effort let alone cast to make it work, you will just want to give up on it any way.

we here on zilvia don't disrespect ingenuity or custom fab work(thats done right). but most here know what is realistic and so on.
but by all means prove us wrong, do the swap and get smart from it.
if you think its possible then try, but altima rwd with an rb seams weak in terms of structure.

be more thoughtful when it comes to posting

posting any idea that pops into my head

Its not like im trying to get people to jump on a band wagon. Shit remember when people were starting to fabricate their own intake manifolds, those post went something like this "anyone ever think of making your intake manifold like the ones RB and 2JZ use, u know like a biiger plenum or something"

then some people actualy took the time to R&D the idea borrow a buddies welder and BAM there you go, now there are 2 or 3 companies that prodice intake manifolds.

Plus i am not asking how to do this or do that, im looking for people who have done it, maybe some people who are not on the boards, or who are, but just dont post alot.

OT and I think I know the answer but...

Can a FWD KA out of a early/mid 90ish Altima drop into an s13?

Yes, indeed it was an opinion. Since YOU think its worth your while then go for it.

articdragon192

I don't even think the chassis would be able to handle the RWD config. I know that RWD integra going around isn't exactly too happy being rwd.

Farzam, a FWD KA won't drop right it, but it has been done before. Some changes were required. A guy on club240.com did it.

Wanna know why its never been done??? Because its gonna cost alot of money in fabrication and labor in order to do so. The older altima chassis are easier to convert to rwd because they shared alot with AWD Nissan Bluebirds.

MavericStephenc

there is good reason to make custom manifolds, stock flow sucks.

reason to make altima rwd......none do your self a favor and buy a 240

All he did was ask a Goddamned question, no need for flaming. Its not like you can search for the answer... Im sure this is the ifrst time its been asked here.

to answer your question, anything is possible with the right tools, patience, and willing to learn. Im sure NO ONE would have expected some old guy to build a Mid-engined, RWD, Acura Integra...but it happened. It was flawlessly executed, it looked factory. There have also been FR-setup Integra's built, a small block chevy Prelude with RX7 IRS setup. Anything is possible, and if someone tells you it isn't, give them the finger, and a big "fuck you."

Oh wow fight negativity with negativity thats brilliant. Not. How to win friends and influence people by telling them to fuck off. Especially when in a tough love sort of way there trying to set your ass straight.

Actually the OP's particular question has never been asked here before because there is no sense to it. So the fool built a mid engined RWD Integra, a complete and total waste of time in my opinion.

Conversions are done because there is some kind of logical sense behind them, usually. lol A RWD KA in a Altima is not logical, the Altima already has a KA. Just build it and turbo it but don't bother with all the extra work to stick a RWD version in, that is technically not much different in HP.
I did not like the live axle Turbocharged LS1 S14 but I do understand his reasoning for the live axle rear. He is a drag racer that does not know how to hook up a IRS suspended car. So he went with what he knew. Was it lame in my opinion yes but it was not completely senseless. Close but not completely.

Anywho to the OP... Anything can be done with money, but the title and your first post kind of confused most... Other than that no I don't think anyone here has any info on an rb in a FWD car nor do we care for it... If you are that interested in it you are gonna be on your own... Good luck :bigok:

What years are you referring to???

The rounded body styled ones...93-97 iirc. Ive seen a guy in the northeast who did it. He imported the whole under pining of an australian bluebird. Swapped the SR20DET AWD and all the suspension pieces.

vader3120
09-17-2007, 11:06 PM
yeah im rolling a first gen as well, there is no doubt in my mind that it will, just a matter of fabrication and doing it.

I am more worried about grafting rear suspension and strut towers, and then drive train tunnels

Was it an orange altima? Im remembering an orange car in my head. This was back in 01. Anyways, I dont see why it cant be done, use the bluebird rear end and suspension pieces. Everything else will be custom to make the RB sit in the engine bay. Definitely not a project for any regular joe schmo like me.

Um, solid rear > IRS. Period, as long as drag racing is concerned.

As far as what you think about doing a RWD Altima, anything is better than FWD IMO. Conversions are done to satisfy the car's owner, last time I checked.

WOW I think we hurt your feelings more than the ops' lol ^^

I just hate seeing people tell others that something can't be done. 5 years ago, do you think anybody would have thought to put an LS1 in a 240sx chassis?

Do you think people would have thought to put 2JZ's in s2000's?

Im sure plenty of people called them retards, but when everything was said and done, it left those people drooling in disbelief. A simple "yes, it can be done, but I wouldn't do it personally" would have been suffice from all the haters.

If you figure out how to properly phrase the question you were originally trying to ask, you might try discussing in Tech Talk.

Please make sure it doesn't sound like this one though.
