I just ordered a mafs from a member on ka-t.org. I got the maf and i realized that the one end of it was cut off. The end that has the 4 holes where you would bolt the air filter adapter to. Now there is no screen on that side only on the opposite side of the mafs. My question is...will it be okay to run this mafs with only the one screen on it, will it effect how it performs or the air flow through it or anything. I just want to make sure that it will still be fine to use without the screen on the one side or can i somehow wrap a piece of screen around it so no dirt will go through it at all. Just for the record this will be on a bottom mount ka-t setup

I think you'll be ok as long as you have a filter before the maf.
A lot of people cut off the part you're talking about so they can just put a silicone coupler over the maf and put it to the filter so you don't have to buy a n62 maf to SR filter adapter

You're fine. I've seen a lot of damaged screens and a slew of people even cut them out for better flow. While I doubt it does anything for flow, it doesn't hurt it being removed, just keep a quality filter in front of it.

What are filters do you recommend? I know the hks mushroom filter and the apexi filter are good choices but i cant see spending 120 bucks or so on an air filter

Aspec (an advertiser on here) makes a nice filter and its cheap $

And the Z32 MAFs are the only ones ive seen screens on. My IS300, SpecV, and the SR20 dont. Im sure youll be fine without it.

If you cut that 4 part "plastic flange" off you dont need the maf adapter, you can just put a 3" coupler on it. and save money.
