Humming noise on s14 after start up

I've noticed for a while now my s14 has humming noise I believe is coming from under the hood immediately after start up. Normally does it when I start the car for the first time of the day. Any startups after that, the sounds is usually not there. Well today I pulled the fuel pump fuse to try and get pressure out the lines by cranking, and I noticed the 2nd time I let it try and crank then let off, it made the noise.

Friend of mine said he thinks its some sorta purge valve. Would this have anything to do with charcoal canister setup?

My car makes a weird noise as well. But mine is more of a whistling sound. I'm not sure if it's the same thing. I'll look into it later. Btw, my car had problems with the purge valve and the charcoal canister, so that might have something to do with it.

is it like multiple of many many little clicking sound that turns into a hum? if so, it's likely the power steering pump. Just bleed it, fill it to the appropriate level.

Hmm I dunno the clicking, but Ill remember next time I start up. Even if it ins't ps, I probably need to replace fluid, since thats the only fluid I have replaced since I got my s14 with 115k on which just rolled a lil past 133k a couple days ago. And I have no maintenance records from previous owners, so there's no telling how old it is.

With the charcoal canister and all that, can the valve be replaced or should the canister and all just be ditched?

I guess you are 100% that it is coming from the front? I have a problem with my car but it is definalty coming from the fuel pump on mine. It is humming as soon as I turn the key to "on" position when the fuel pump is priming the lines or what ever it does for like 3-5 seconds. My car won't start though. however it seemed to run fine before I parked it for a week or so then nothing.

does your s14 have abs? it may be the abs pump you may have air in the lines or something from a recent brake upgrade? or problems from the pump starting to go bad...

check your starter it might b sticking or if not check your belts they might be dried or worned out they sometimes tend to do funny noises just a tought!

Nah doesn't do it with the key in the on position, you actually have to start it. I figure sooner or later I'll get down to the problem because ps fluid and belts are next in line for maintenance. Some days it may do it and some it might not. I'd say no less than 3 times a week on the first start I hear it. Any time I start it later on in the day, like after I've been driving...no sound.
