do any japanese companies make aftermarket catalytic converters (for turbo applications, sr20s, etc)?

i dont see any on greddy and apexi catalogues... the HKS site in their exhaust section catalogue mentions it but then they do not even have any Catalytic Converters listed in any of the catalogues

from looking thru this forum... is Catco, Magnaflow and the few other American companies the only ones that make cats?

why is it like that? do the japanese not run cats or something? haha

WTF you want a JDM cat? a cat is a cat aslong as you can pass emission why does it matter if its us or jdm.

apex and hks make them for GT-ARRRzzz.

but seriously, just get a catco/random tech/whatever. who cares about the brand of your CC? unless you need it to look good on your "mod list".

It's not necassarily about the bling factor, it's about the fact that the catalytic coverters made by Apexi, sard, etc. barely even spittle out CO2 because they use more efficient metals. You aren't paying for the "bling" factor. You are paying for the effectiveness of the catalytic converter. There was a test done on an R34 600whp race skyling with Apex'i cat.. CO2 and NOX were only marginal on the scale. For some of us, that means the difference between passing and failing emissions. Would I spend $400+ on one of these cats? No... I run a straight pipe for fucks sake.. However, if my magnaflow cat doesn't pass me through emissions this December, I know one of those JDM bling blingers will.. Where can the yashio cat, or any of the others be purchased at???

why is it that a magnaflow is iffy at best, but a yashio factory will pass without fail? it's hard to imagine that magnaflow just put some crap together in a can and said it was a catalytic converter. besides that, using a $500 catalytic converter once a year to pass emissions defeats the purpose.

Yea it defeats the purpose if I don't want a streetable car..

By is it that gold costs more than say copper? You're telling me a pount of gold and a pound of copper cost about the same? Different elements are used in Sard, Apexi, etc. catalytic converters...Hence the atrocious price tag. There have been many articles discussing this in magazines.

streetable and "streetable" are different things. for a little somethin somethin, you could have a "passed" car and not have to buy an uber expensive catalytic converter. i just don't get the rationale. i watch old video options too, but the point of that test was to show that you can keep the cat on all the time and not lose significant power. eh.. whatever, i don't have problems with emissions anyways. all hail the great state of arkansas.

anyways....

cant remember but does D1Sl also require that the car run a cat as well?

yeah I dont recall any stateside events or organizations requiring a cat to run any particular class (but I dont know everything)....

I guess I am trying to say is there are some people that do appreciate the product... or some that dont do their own work(aka shop car) and thus they see it as a pain to be messing with the shit....

It was either sport compact car or import tuner (i have 5 different import mag subscriptions so i cant remember) but they did a test with dyno to compare the general cats available on the market. Running a test pipe added about 3 hp
out of catco, random technologies, etc., the magnaflow catalytic converter made the most power when not using a test pipe.

so, is 3 hp that important for it not to be street legal? its not to me

Maybe this will help with your search. Most Japanese cats are called Catalyzers instead of Catalytic converters

amuse makes one- $302

Nismo= Weldina Sports Cat - $762

SARD - $552

and a bunch more.. so keep searching if it means that much to you.

honestly, for something that no one well ever see and for the price, id definately go with the magnaflow.. save the few hundred bucks for something more important

oh and this is off topic but about keeping your exhaust in good condition, use krylon high temp. paint..

Why pay these high ass prices for a F'ing cat? Yashio Factory is dope but that price is ridiculous.
