Use a vice and sockets or pipe or something. I used the vice and pvc pipe with a couple sockets to press in a ball joint on the FLCA from my old 90 hatch.

Crafts man 1/2" Drive 6 sided socket. Braker bar from Napa, squirt some brake fluid in that bitch (yes break fluid > PB blaster.) a cheater bar to extend the breaker bar leverage. and PWN that bitch!

sorry, but this socket has gotten me through plenty of other jobs on 240's. im not the only one who has had problems with this particular bolt. just search ball joint, and lca and you will find that some have even given up and resorted to cutting the fucker off. so dont be so hasty to attack people who u dont even know. thanks.

You're probably the same genius at Discount Tire who uses an impact gun on your aluminum lugnuts.

You're probably the same genius at Discount Tire who uses an impact gun on your aluminum lugnuts.

You forgot to add the part when they come and tell you that the lug nut was stripped on there already and act like they didn't do it.

You forgot to add the part when they come and tell you that the lug nut was stripped on there already and act like they didn't do it.

Hence the reason you stand there and watch them remove the lug nuts. With you watching them they are going to be more careful.

09-13-2007, 08:35 AM
you need to press the new ball into the lca.

Not always. I remove the snap ring and then beat it against the vice, like a hammer, they usually come out no problem. Then line it up and use a 34-36mm socket and hammer the new one in.

But yes, a press is easier.

autozone rents a balljoint press for free:

works great

Clearalbino

Or you could go to napa and get them pressed for $25 buck a pair. Just make sure you call them up and find out which ones have the press.

I fucking hate the wannabe elitist pricks who swear craftsman sucks(not you murphy...just in general)... The same tards who flame anything other than 3k. dollar rims on a 2k. dollar car. Most people who flame craftsman ARE NOT paying for their own tools(or they get half off like certain school techs...cough....cough....murphy)

Craftsman is JUST FINE for MOST people.

Also- Don't use a fucking impact socket.... Just get a 1/2 breaker bar, a decent(craftsman, matco, or snap on) socket and be done... (after appropriate heat, breaker fluid, etc.)

Last comment- If no access to a press, just do as r240na says... It works JUST FINE.

Yeah, but thats just because you've got the man-stregnth.

I've done that too, but I dont like beating shit up, then showing the customer the removed parts with gouges and saying.. "oh I yeah, it was hard."

I always try to recommend the absolute best way, I try not to talk about welding sockets to stripped hex bolts and the such... :keke:

well the jobs done. went to kragen down the street and rented their press for 6 bucks. drives like a charm though. however now that ive started to tear into her the tc rods and tie rods are looking like they want to be replaced by spl parts for me. looks like they are gonna be getting some of my moneys very soon. :)

I've broken 3 craftsman screwdrivers, 2 craftsman ratchets, some cheap branded ratchet, probably 4 craftsman sockets and 2 wrenchs.

O and I broke a hammer once too.

Breaker bars are the way to go when your trying to loosen a bolt... I almost always use some sort of pipe to put on the end of the ratchet to make it easier breaking em loose

husky sucks... i've broken em takin off flywheel bolts but just like craftsman i get new ones for free... cause i work at home depot.

i like my craftsman and never really had a problem with em.

in a week or so i should be getting a 40% discount card from NAPA to use on tools or whatever the hell i want (aircraft mechanic). lifetime guarantee so if i break it i go to any NAPA store and get another.

snap on also has different levels of tools... from cheaper stuff a normal person would use ALL the way up to gold plated tools that are like 200k for the set... buddy of mine's dad has about half a million in snap on tools and he has that gold set in a brand new rolling chest still in the packaging... fuckin rich people

+1

i mean....every tool manufacturer sucks at something. craftsman rachets arent the best, but everything else isnt too bad. snap-on's rachets are starting to become crap very quickly (if you can find old ones guys, pick them up..the old ones are build really well). I lost count of how many snap on sockets ive seen break. every tool breaks, especially when you use it the wrong way.

for you flywheel bolt guys...maybe you could try using..

-a pnumanic impact gun (if its available)
-a impact gun socket (alot stronger than the chrome validium ones)
-breaker bar just to break the initial torque

i've seen mechanics use husky tools for years...never gave them a problem, you just have to know how/when to use a tool.

Gold plated? wtfwhy.

cause he can I guess... I called bullshit on it when my buddy Brandon told me so we hopped in his RSX and went to this Dad's house into the garage and he fucking showed me.... Sitting right beside his dad's new Saleen in a rolling snap on chest.... like I said... fuckin rich people.

I got tired of breaking sockets so I've started buying NAPA hardened impact gun sockets and I use them about all the time.
