Ok we all love Zombie's here at Zilvia and there's almost always some Lovely Zombie news that will make you drool (blood).
So here we go. All Zombie news and related comments can go here.
I'll start it off with:
George Romero's Diary of the Dead just got picked up for US and Mexico distribution. For those not up to date, George completely cut out the Hollywood studio's funding and funded the whole movie himself (I'm sure he had some other source, but we get the point).
The movie takes place actually during the original Night of the Living Dead as if it took place today. But the movie is a narrative from survivors through handheld footage. The reviews from the premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival are ACTUALLY saying that it's a great movie AND SCARY! I can't wait to see this bad boy.
The Weinstein Co. picked it up for distribution. There's no release date yet that I know of, but I'll let you know as soon as I find out.
Secondly 28 Weeks Later just came out on DVD. IGN gave it an 8. Said it's a worthwile DVD for sure. I'll have to ask for that for X-Mas. ;)

I would LOVE TO film a Zombie movie or even write one. I constantly think of different scenario's to start a film off. I think the move "everyday" you make it, the scary it is. That's why I don't like the Resident Evil movie's.
My favorite scenario is: Guy and his wife (I usually think of my wife and I) are at the Doc's office maybe to meet the doc about having a baby or something to that effect. They check in...wait in the lobby...read some magazines...10 min later they call the couple back...sit'em in a room...they joke around with stuff int he room...seems like a hella long time...hear mad noise all of sudden...screams, crashing etc...he peeks out the door into the hall, and all hell has broke loose in the clinic...slams the door shut, locks it...she's like "WTF is going on?!"...dude's like "I don't fuckin know but..." BAM!...Something pounding on the door...they escape the room through the ceiling tile...
That's a good start I think. IMO.

Ive never been a huge zombie movie fan...although I practically shit my pants watching shaun of the dead, I loved that movie. Also loved hot fuzz too, but thats a different topic.
Personally Im not a big fan of gore in movies, something like shaun of the dead where its made out to be comedic is fine. Ive seen some gruesome shit in my life and I really dont like to recall it.

Another Zombie movie for 2009!
Uwe Boll Plots Zombie Massacre
Also plans Sabotage, Legend and BloodRayne 3.
by Stax
Click here to find out more!
September 26, 2007 - Filmmaker Uwe Boll is planning on turning even more videogames into films. This time the director of Postal and BloodRayne is turning his sights on Zombie Massacre, the new Wii shooter from 1988 Games.
According to GameDaily.com, Boll will shoot Zombie Massacre in Vancouver on a $6 million budget. He intends on releasing the film in 2009. The game, however, has yet to set a release date or a publisher.
"I want to make this movie more creepy than House of the Dead, which was intended to be funny and campy," Boll informed the site. "I'd like Zombie Massacre to be a harsh zombie movie like 28 Days Later."
Boll was approached by the game's producer, Benjamin Krotin, about developing Zombie Massacre for the big-screen. Krotin said that "with Zombie Massacre we had a concept that we knew would translate well to film without any major changes having to be made, and we were just in the right place at the right time. We started talking about attempting to pursue it further, and Uwe Boll was the first and only name to come up because of his extensive experience in working with video game properties."
GameDaily also reveals that Boll intends on turning Replay Studios' Sabotage 1943 and Master Creating's Legend: Hand of God into movies. Sabotage 1943 will be shot back-to-back with BloodRayne 3, the latter of which Boll wants to shoot in Croatia in '08.

I FUCKING HATE UWE BOLL! MOTHERFUCKER RUINED BLOODRAYNE.
and he was supposed to direct the halo movie that got shelved then unshelved.....i fear the worst.
and i dunno, the 28 days later monster things were more of a "variant" of a zombie, kinda like how the Ganados are in Resident Evil 4....so i consider them zombies in a way.
yeah i know, zombies= undead but if your brain stops functioning (a la 28 days later) doesnt that make you dead? and since you're running around tearing shit up in that state, doesn't make you "un" dead?

I Am Legend, IGN Premiere
Check back at midnight Wednesday for a first look at the film!
by Todd Gilchrist
October 22, 2007 - On Wednesday, October 24, 2007, IGN will premiere the final theatrical trailer for I Am Legend, the highly-anticipated adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic sci-fi novel. The trailer will go live on IGN on Wednesday at exactly 12:01 a.m..
I Am Legend stars Will Smith as Neville, a scientist trying to contain a seemingly unstoppable virus that turns normal humans into zombie-like monsters. Adapted by screenwriters Mark Protosevich (The Cell) and Akiva Goldsman (I Robot) and directed by Francis Lawrence (Constantine), the film is an epic story of Neville's journey to find a cure and rescue humankind from the brink of disaster.
The film is scheduled for release on December 14, 2007, but check back between now and then for more news, updates, interviews and all-around coverage of this exciting film. If your appetite for all things Legend isn't yet sated, feel free to peruse our I Am Legend object page where you can click on links to images from the film as well as previous news items, including our exclusive preview of the I Am Legend SecondLife game.

^isnt the book based on a virus that turns humans into vampire like monsters? either way, i'm there.
edit - found the info
story is devoted to Neville's struggles to understand the plague that has transformed everyone he meets except for himself, and the novel details the progress of his discoveries. In this regard, the novel is almost unique in vampire fiction in that instead of asking the reader to accept a supernatural explanation for vampire phenomena, the author strives to offer scientific basis for such symptoms as aversion to garlic, craving of fresh blood, and resistance to bullets but vulnerability to stakes and sunlight. The aversion to mirrors and crosses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross) (or, in the case of one vampire of Jewish origin, the Torah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torah)) is classified as psychological.
Eventually, Neville discovers that while he is the only person immune to the bacterium, he is not the only one still alive. Others who have been infected have discovered a means to hold the disease at bay. However, during the daylight hours, they appear to be fully evolved vampires. Thus, along with the vampires, he has been killing these still alive persons. He becomes a source of terror to the still living, since he can go around in daylight (which they can only do for a short length of time) and leaves their dead behind. These still living “vampires” capture Neville and reveal their nature to him, and how monstrous he appears to them. Just as vampires were regarded as legendary monsters that preyed on the vulnerable humans in their beds, Neville has become the last of a dead breed; a mythical figure that kills both vampires and the infected living while they are sleeping. He becomes a legend as the vampires once were, hence the title.

from wikipedia....
In March 2007, plans were announced by Danny Boyle to create a "third chapter" of the film franchise, which may be given the title 28 Months Later with a 2009 release date,[33] thus creating a trilogy. Boyle has stated that his thoughts are to set the movie in Russia.[34]
In June 2007, it was announced that if DVD sales of the film did well Fox Atomic would consider producing the third film.[35]
In July 2007, while promoting the film Sunshine, Boyle revealed that he has a story formulating for the next film "There is an idea for the next one, something which would move [the story] on. I've got to think about it, whether it's right or not." Boyle also revealed that he would return as the director.[36]

Per the other thread. Here's actual pics of our Zombie Bunker.
It's the attic of our house. The only access point is in the garage up the vertical ladder. There's sheets of Plywood up there that I can use to barricade spacing int he house off so we can still safely access them. The bathroom isn't far away so I thought about knocking a hole int he ceiling and then boarding up the window and door to give us access to that. We also have a roll up ladder. This is however only temporary, like 4-5 days. After that when the some of the chaos dies down (no pun intended) we hop in our car and head up North to Nicole's grandma's house. She lives in the Northwoods of WI where there's very few people. Her house is located on the shores of a small lake called Long Lake. The house is also built on a penninsula. So we only need to worry about protecting ourselves from one side. And since my father-in-law goes hunting up there once a year (grandma lives there all year though) it's stock full of GNA, that's Guns-N-Ammo.

I like to think about this pretty often just cause it's kinda fun. Answer this:
What would you do if the outbreak hit RIGHT NOW!? Where you are RIGHT NOW!? What's your plan?
For me I'm at work, in a corporate office. I'd pretty much be fucked. I have no car since it's winter time and the coupe is in storage.
So, have my boss follow me, I'd grab my cell, and barricade us in one of the stock rooms. Make sure it's secure (no one else in there). I'd call my wife and since she's usually home have her get in the zombie bunker and stay put (hey if I don't make it I don't want her going down too). I'd wait for some of the commotion to die down. I'd see what I can use in the room to either make a torch from or use as a weapon. Once I feel the coast is a little more clear (hrs maybe) we'd jet for his car. It's only about 40" from the building. I'd have him take me home. Hopefully we get there safe. From that point, he can either stay with us, or leave to find his family.
it's not the best plan I realize, but that would be what I'd have to work with.

I'm at my girlfriend's place near SJSU, I'm dead because I wouldn't be able to tell students from zombies. The only things close to me is sicissors and a fish bowl. The apartment has no food that I could take and by the time i could drive to any store it would be chaos and I would likely die there.
First thing would be to toss my gf in the car, lock the doors, use the GPS to find some gun store and make a break for it avoiding all freeways. Hit anything that looks at me like food. Get as much guns and ammo as quickly as I can and head back to my apartment, second story two bedroom and no way of access to my place from any windows but I have a window next to the door to kill anything that decides to come up to it. From there it would just be surviving on as much food that is left in my barren apartment... and if we run out of food and it's still unsafe to go out and find food... well that's why i brought my girlfriend along.

where you talking about this? according to bloody-disgusting.com
Diary of the Dead (George A. Romero's) (Sundance)
Release Date: February 15, 2008
Director: George A. Romero Writer: George A. Romero
Starring: Shawn Roberts (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/includes/clicksearch.php?id=Shawn Roberts) Joshua Close (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/includes/clicksearch.php?id=Joshua Close) Michelle Morgan (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/includes/clicksearch.php?id=Michelle Morgan) Jon Dinicoi (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/includes/clicksearch.php?id=Jon Dinicoi) Phillip Riccio (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/includes/clicksearch.php?id=Phillip Riccio) Scott Wentworth (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/includes/clicksearch.php?id=Scott Wentworth)
I'd be screwed.
I'm in the middle of a population center, and my car is out of gas.
I have several tire irons and a floor jack handle within arm's reach however, and there's a hard hat nearby.
I would have to find a way to get to my apt, then immediatly get out of LA.
The freeways would be totally jammed, so I'd take the river basins out of town.

I like to think about this pretty often just cause it's kinda fun. Answer this:
What would you do if the outbreak hit RIGHT NOW!? Where you are RIGHT NOW!? What's your plan?
I work at a small office in Santa Monica. It on the 2nd floor. The doors are locked at the entrance and the doorways to the 2nd floor. If zombies have not gotten inside the bldg, its actually quite secure for a couple of days. I have my pos crx in the garage, although with the outbreak and where I'm at (right next to 405 frwy) it'll be useless.
Best course of action is just to get holed up for a few days, then Im screwed. Basically no weapons (other than office furniture), and no food. There is some candy and water, but it's not going to last me over a week. Escape is out of the question. Its just a matter of finding all the local spots for food and supplies and taking the risk to do raids.
On the other hand, if the zombies have already gotten inside the office I'm finished for for sure.

I'm at home right now, so i think i'd be pretty well off. We've got some shitty swords in the living room, tons of car parts we could use as weapons, my jeep, and my bro's cars. I'd rather take my jeep for its offroading abilities, and i'd like to use that shit in urban atmosphere anyways. I'd roll down a block or so, and raid guns, and find a nice place to hole up.
I'd find a nice decent place for non-perishable foods. I don't eat much, 'malnourished' by american standards, so food that would last you clowns a month would last me 4.

Frankenstein to be remade
from ign:
UK, January 4, 2008 - Guillermo del Toro -- visionary director of Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth -- is apparently planning a movie version of Mary Shelly's monster classic Frankenstein.
The Mexican helmer told MTV News he's in planning on the "definitive take" of the spooky tale, and revealed that he's already begun pre-production duties and is crafting several drawings. "I started doing some notes before the strike," he revealed. "[During the strike] I can only draw now."
Apparently, he's always been interested in directing a version of Frankenstein. He explained: "The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries, but I think there are permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way."

fresh zombies should be more faster/agile before it starts decaying.
i dont know how zombies climb the stairs so quickly in a decaying state. they
should be stumbling like retards because zombies shouldn't have any sort of
coordination and the limited movements from the harding/stiff blood&muscles.
I was thinking... maybe there is small amount of coordination is left from the
craze killing animal/human instinct but, climbing stairs or performing any sort
obstacle they should stumble and fall.
and maybe the virus is preserving the host body allowing muscle to work for awhile.
who knows!

Yep. Ol' George created the modern zombie genre as we know it today. He funded Night of the Living Dead out of his own pocket. It was very low budget, but for the time (and even today) was utterly terrifying. He actually made one mistake and forgot to copyright the movie though and he doesn't get anything from the movie now. He also likes to address social issues the country is going through. For instance race in Night of the living dead, and consumerism in Dawn. He's a genius.

After finishing up the complete story board this weekend. Me and a buddy will start working on a script for our short horror film for the George Romero contest.
Not exactly living dead, more infected type, but with some twists and trying to actually make it scary not cheesy, funny, and poorly acted.
I'm excited.

has anyone actually been practicing shooting ? I have 150 shotgun rounds chilling at my house and 500+ rounds of 22 LR bullets. My roomate has about 50 mossan nagant rounds in his room. I've gotten down hitting a standing shot gun shell with a 22 rifle at about 200-300 ft pretty consistently. My reason for using 22 rounds is although it doesn't have stopping power, it will penetrate the first layer of the skull and bounce around inside the skull scrambling the brains at a distance of about 250 + ft. Too bad silencers aren't legal in cali. I'd be great, because a silenced 22 would be so quiet a zombies wouldn't know what hit them.
Also, we've been hitting clay pidgeons from a pretty far distance with the shotty. Weuse the longest barrel to have the closest spread pattern so we can focus all the shots on the head.

This is from the Myspace site:
Hi, guys,
Lemme tell ya about Diary of the Dead. I love it. It’s the first film since my original Night of the Living Dead that I can say is completely my own.
I’ve been trying to work under-the-radar, with no hype or press, but lately I've started hearing all kinds of shit about “What’s goin' on with Romero?” “What’s with his new film?”
Gimme a break over here! I'm up in Toronto workin' my ass off, making Diary the best it can be. Truth is, I'm having a blast. I've gone home to the kind of filmmaking that I used to do, back in the day.
Diary is a hundred percent independent, made with my partner, Peter Grunwald, and our new friends at Artfire. I haven't had this much freedom since 1968. The cast, of what film critics will probably call “unknowns” (they won’t be for long) is, in my opinion, fuckin' great.
This one comes from my heart. It's not a sequel or a remake. It's a whole new beginning for the dead.
Thanks to all of you who are out there waiting and wondering. You guys, the fans, have always kept me going. Now Diary's keeping me going, night, dawn, and day.
I love this movie. I hope you will, too. I'll be back here from time to time to keep you posted. Stay tuned.
Stay scared.

George Romero's Diary of the Dead
By Ryan Stewart
Feb 15, 2008
Don't expect to see George Romero in line for the next sequel to 28 Days Later. As the legendary horror director told SuicideGirls when we sat down with him last week, he's just too old-school to get excited by this new generation of running, jumping zombies who look like they "just came from the gym." It's that touching dedication to a bygone era of brain-eating that makes Romero a fan favorite with a rabid following -- his quirky Coke bottle-glasses and grandfatherly demeanor have turned him into something of a Stan Lee for the horror set -- and this week will see the opening of his fourth zombie movie since 1968's landmark Night of the Living Dead.
Some may be surprised at what a dramatic departure Diary of the Dead is from Romero's previous film, 2005's Land of the Dead, which was a relatively big-budget, sprawling action-horror film about a world overrun with zombies. That film had stars and a progressive spin on zombiedom -- in the story, the undead start to learn and become self-aware -- but all of that has been chucked for Diary, which is another low-budget Day One story, an updated version of Night of the Living Dead, in which a group of blog-savvy film students document an initial outbreak of zombies. As Romero waited for a Girl Friday at the Weinstein Co.'s Manhattan office to bring him a gin and tonic, we discussed his new film and exactly why he wanted to go back to the beginning.
Ryan Stewart: Land of the Dead was your biggest zombie movie to date, by far. What made you want to go back to the basics with Diary, and do another zombie "origin" story? Was doing a sequel to Land too costly?
George Romero: No, man. I had an idea that I really wanted to do something about this emerging media. I had this perception that it's really getting dangerous out there. Everybody is a reporter and the whole blogosphere is becoming, you know ... I joke about it and I say that if Jim Jones had a blog, millions of people would be drinking Kool-Aid. It seems to me that any lunatic out there with an argument -- it may be radical but if it sounds halfway reasonable, it's gonna get millions of followers, just like that. It seems to be creating tribes and we don't need more tribes. In that sense, it just strikes me as dangerous. People are getting seduced, they're being invited in by CNN and everybody else, "Hey, there's a tornado, go get me a shot of it, man!"
RS:
That's interesting, that you don't see the emergence of the blogosphere as a democratization of information. More information is not necessarily more empowering to people, then?
GR:
No, I don't think it is, cause it's not information. It's opinion. It's not straight information, never. In some cases it's not even spin, it's just what somebody happens to believe.
RS:
Wasn't it always sort of that way, to an extent?
GR:
Sure, but it was controlled. It was being managed. There was nothing out there that was incitable, I don't think. I find this as sort of ... it's a bit too radical to say "letting the lunatics running the asylum" but that's potentially what it is. People don't do their homework, that's the problem. You know, Walter Cronkite was the most trusted man in America. Now, it might be Joe Blow from Cincinnati, who just happens to have a blog up that people are loving. And that's all preaching to the converted. People who tune in to Limbaugh already know what he's going to say and they already agree with him, so it's just self-reinforcing and I think that it's not good. I mean, my big fear is that people can't handle it all. They're not discriminating enough to be able to say, "That's bullshit." Nobody bothers to see through it, so they take it as gospel. They go quote it, "You know what I heard? I heard this!"
RS:
How does that tie into the opening scene of Diary, where we're watching a news team on the scene at an apartment building where there's been some drama involving an immigrant family there. Is your fear that people are passively watching this kind of stuff, consuming it, without being emotionally affected?
GR:
Yeah, partly that. Also, I was just trying to trace this legend over the course of those three days and how the mainstream [media] sort of -- first you see it lying and then it sort of collapses and the Internet takes over. I wish I could have gone further with it. If there is a possibility of a sequel, I'd actually love to do it, cause there's a hell of a lot more. I'd love to go further with that theme. But to answer your original question, I wanted to do something about that and I felt that the only way, or at least the idea that I had for that, was that I would start out with a bunch of film students that have a camera and they're out shooting a student project when the shit hits the fan. I felt that needed to be on the first night, so I said, "I'll just start over on the first night." There are collections of short stories, "Book of the Dead" and "Book of the Dead 2", they're all collections, stories by horror and sci-fi writers, of things that happened to other people on that same night -- the night of the living dead. So I said, "Well, if they can do it I can do it!" So I decided to go back and ... you know, all those ideas just fell into place. Plus, I really wanted to get back to the roots. I mean, I liked Land of the Dead, I was very satisfied with it, but it seemed like it was just getting too big, you know? It had lost touch with its roots.
RS:
That's surprising, because that's the movie where you seem to show a great interest in doing something new with zombies, pushing the mythology forward a little bit. For example, I want to know what happened to Big Daddy [the self-aware zombie.] Maybe he's got his high-school diploma by now, for all I know. Are you interested in pushing that whole thing any further?
GR:
I am and I would be -- I don't have the idea for it yet. I mean, where do you go? Does it go Planet of the Apes? You know what I mean? I don't know how far you can go with that. Do they start farming? I don't know. I haven't found an idea that I thought would be ... reasonably believable. I haven't found it yet and I don't know where to go with it. If I think of something, sure, I would try and write something. But also, I just like the idea of just starting another, parallel set of stories.
RS:
You know what Roger Ebert said about it? He said you should do a sequel set entirely inside Fiddler's Green [the heavily-fortified apartment tower in Land where all the rich, white people live securely, while everyone else fends off zombies outside.] We only focus on the drama inside, and we never see zombies, except maybe at the windows.
GR:
[Laughs] Just the drama inside, yeah. Beyond the Valley of the Zombies! You know, that would be great.
RS:
By the way, why did you choose a mummy movie for your film-student kids to be shooting when the zombie outbreak happens? Is that something you attempted as a kid, or was it just something simple?
GR:
Yeah, I loved the old Christopher Lee Mummy. I was still young enough that I thought it was terrific, and I like the idea of a slow, lumbering creature, you know? That was always more scary to me than something that ... Michael Myers never hurries up, right? He just walks.
RS:
Sure. Jason Vorhees, same kind of deal.
GR:
Yeah. But he's still there, you know? So, it's all part of that reaction, a sort of running joke in the film, that dead things don't move fast. So I thought I'd use [a mummy] because that was the first thing that came to my mind when I thought about this -- slow-moving, you can drill him full of holes, but he just keeps coming very deliberately at you. To me that's much scarier than these things all wearing Nikes and they all, like, just came from the gym.
RS:
So you're not on board with the new generation of zombies that flat-out run at people, chase them, like in the 28 Days Later movies.
GR:
Oh boy, I don't believe they can do it. I mean, the stuff I said in the film is exactly [what I think.] I think their ankles would snap. It doesn't make sense to me. I used to get asked, after the Return of the Living Dead movies, "Well, how come your guys aren't coming up out of graves?" Because no individual zombie has the strength to dig through all that mahogany, man. So there's a little set of rules there, anyway, that keeps it, at least in my mind, somewhat reasonable.
RS:
Do you approach your zombie movies the way an A-list actor approaches, say, an action movie? One for them, one for me? Since you're so identified with it, does a zombie movie help you finance other, potentially less bankable or more personal projects?
GR:
No, there's certainly not a strategy or a pattern, in any way. When we did Land of the Dead, I was happy to get the gig, I was happy to have a little more money to work with. It wasn't enough -- it was still sort of guerilla filmmaking. We were still basically under-financed, as ambitious as that script was, and no, man, it was just grueling. It was just too hard. I just had this sense of it getting bigger and bigger and, "Where's it gonna go?" So initially I had this idea for Diary and I fleshed out the script. I literally wanted to go to this -- there's a film school called Full Sail in Orlando where I've taught a couple of classes and I've spoken a couple of times -- I wanted to go down there and shoot this movie there, with the kids, completely under the radar, you know, raise money from a couple of dentists and do it almost as a vacation, a school project, and see what happens, you know? Maybe we get a DVD release and I split the money with the school. It was in the back of my mind, like that. But the people at ArtFire read it and said, "No, man, you're throwing it away that way." They said, "We'll give you all the control if you can keep the budget reasonable." So my partner Peter and I, we literally picked at it and picked at it and we got the budget down as low as we possibly could. That was the tradeoff, for having complete control over it.
RS:
Are you gonna do the movie about the explorers on the deserted island, Solitary Isle, next?
GR:
No, no, it doesn't look like it. These things keep coming back. I worked for years on a project called Diamond Dead, and it looked dead, and I got a phone call two days ago, before I came here, from the producer saying, "We're back!" Sometimes things revive ... you just never know. We'll see.
Diary of the Dead hits theaters today, February 15. For more information, check out the official site here.

the original Day of the Dead is actually one of my favorite ones. It kinda bums me out that you didn't like it. Admittedly, I believe it's the intro and the established environment that appeals to me, but I do also love Bub and the nutty Dr. The psycho military guys are a bit over the top in my opinion, but that was kinda the point Romero was making.
The story is 100% a personal project borne out of my disgust with nearly every zombie-related project being vomited out of Hollywood as of late. I'll write it till it's done, edit it, and write more if I feel it needs it, then see where I can go from there. Maybe I'll turn it into a novel, maybe a screenplay, maybe nothing.
PS - send me an IM now and again, damnit.

I actually like the scenario (of Day) a LOT. I think what holds me back from liking it more, is the military leader. He just angers me so damn much! I know that's the point. Not that I like movies to be all pretty smelling roses, but it really makes me mad when someone's ignorance fucks up a perfectly good situation. Even if it's a movie.
It's the only one I don't own too. But I'm gonna get it even if it's not my favorite.
I'd REALLY like to write a screen play for a zombie movie.

i saw day of the dead with little expectations. it was okay. what i really liked about it is how the dr. "scientifically" explains how the zombies are reanimated and how their hunger for human flesh is irrelevant to their survival.
this movie defines what a zombie is.
by this definition, the infected humans that starve to death in the 28days/weeks movies are just undead wannabes/posers who puke blood and want to beat people up.

Yea, I like 28 Days/Weeks, but I prefer Romero's zombie's much better. They seem more realistic to me.

I went and seen the movie last night at a 9:15 show. My full review is below. WARNING SPOILERS!
If you've looked at this thread over the last year or so, you would be able to tell that I was looking forward to this movie a LOT. Most people on here know how much of a fan of the genre I am. And Romero in my eyes is the King. easily my favorite zombie movie of all time is Dawn of the Dead (1978) followed by Night of the Living Dead (1968 B&W), and then 28 Days Later.
I don't ever have extremely high expectations of zombie movies because they are just supposed to be a lot of fun to me with some nice gore effects and some tense moments. And again with Diary of the Dead, my expectations we're too high, I was just excited to see what fun Romero has crafted for us this time.
You've probably heard the synopsis. I'll just snatch what IMBD says: A group of young film students run into real-life zombies while filming a horror movie of their own. People have been calling it Blair Witch meets Cloverfield.
Let me say this right away. This movie, was bad. Real bad. And not in the Run DMC definition of the word bad. Unfortunately. Trust me I wanted nothing more then to write a gushing (no pun intended) review about this movie and encourage you to all drive the nearest theater, even if it's an hour away, to see it right away.
I like the whole idea, but it just wasn't put together believably. The acting was the biggest culprit. I know Romero cast some relatively un-knows for the rolls, and sometimes that pays off. Not in this case. The main character who was the person holding the camera the whole time was so unbelievable. I just couldn't get drawn into the story. His co-star who played his GF wasn't any better. I've seen some bad acting before, but this really ranks up there among the worst. Not once was their any panic or fear in his voice despite his friends and his friends family members being eaten alive by invading zombies. He was far more interested in pissing his friends off by filming them then lending hand when their arm is being gnawed off. The characters weren't very fleshed (again no pun intended) out either. They were all college film students, but honestly you didn't even care if one got knocked off or not. The hot chicks weren't all that hot and the tough guys weren't all that tough. I think the best character was the students professor who was along for the ride. He's a British an alcoholic with a good shot. The worst of all the characters was the def Amish guy on the farm. Luckily he was only in the movie for about 5 min.
But what really ruined the movie for me was how believable the story was. Or should I say unbelievable. For one, you never get a sense of widespread panic and chaos. All you get are shots of TV's showing what is happening elsewhere. But not where these kids are. So it never feels like they're in any real danger. A few times they do run into packs of zombie's. But they just run'em over with the Winnebago or an easy couple shots to the head and the threat is over. And even though these kids were supposed to be friends they never seemed to want to help the other out. Usually when a zombie attacked one of the characters would fight it off and the others would stand idly by watching. Again especially the main character who just wanted to film everything. Their's a scene towards the end of the film where one of the friends who's been turned into a zombie is chasing one of the girls in their group. She's yelling out, "help! This isn't a movie! This is real!". And what does he do? He just continues to film away. Come one George! :jerkit: The whole movie was filled with these unrealistic scenes. I'm used to Romero having some fun at the characters expense every now and then, but it went way overboard.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed. There's been endless praise of this movie on the DOTD Myspace page which makes it even worse.
So in closing I give the movie:
1 out of 5 stars
or

I've got a review for you:
Dead Moon Rising
2.5 stars
Basically it's an indie zombie film, the kind I usually hate because they're so poorly done. I actually have to admit I sorta liked it. It wasn't too hung up on itself in terms being 'SERIOUS ZOMBIE FILM', and it made it fun to watch. There are tons of pointless cultural (and subcultural) references, even to the point of excess, but it's still enjoyable despite it.
The actors are pretty unconvincing, and the story is relatively simple and slow, but considering the film appeared to be shot on a handycam with maybe a $10000 budget, it's not half bad. (Seriously, they have shots of the production as the credits roll, and the camera is smaller than a football, and it's inside a homemade 'steady-cam' mount).
I think I enjoyed it because it didn't take itself too seriously, and despite all the technical and talent-related flaws, it's still fun to watch.

Bums me out to hear that Diary sucked. I was really hoping that George would really pull something brilliant out of his hat.

If any of you guys are interested in a really good Zombie book.
I got one for you: Day by Day Armageddon.
I started reading a free sample of it on the internet a few years back and was sad to find out it was only a sample and that the book was printed in limited amounts and were going for $50 a piece.
Anyways, it's written in journal entry fashion and is by far one of the best Zombie related things I have read/seen/heard in quite a while.
Recently they picked it up for re-print in much bigger volume. So you can pick up a copy for normal price now.
