My temp gauge is randomly hitting 60-100% before returning to normal operating temp.. its never steamed or done anything drastic but when I pull over my and pop the hood my overflow tank is boiling like crazy

I just put a new t-stat and rad cap.. but I started hearing a random grinding noise from my engine bay + some belt slippage, im thinkiing my waterpump might be dying? its hard to tell

Is it possible I just need a good bleed or do I have more serious issues? I was told it could be my headgasket but the car pulls hard and idles rock solid..

what motor are you running?

grinding and belt slipping...possible mechanical water pump failure...

best of luck

water pump doesn't have to weep to be bad...that just indicates bad seals...if you have a mechanical failure of the water pump (such as bent fin on impellar or foreign debris in the pump cavity(bolt,screw,nut..ect)that could cause noise and possibly impede water flow...

if you want to know a funny thing...VW uses graphite impellars on their water pumps...over time the graphite breaks down and the impellar breaks apart(more like shatters) inside the pump cavity leaving only a little nub, while all of the pieces of graphite circulate throughout the whole cooling system of the motor....german engineering my ass...
