went back downtown the past couple days. i didnt take as many pictures as i usually do. hell, i didnt even mess around with my new 50mm 1.8 prime. its hard to take your time with shots when there are 5 people wandering all over the place. oh well. i almost passed out when they got me up onto the roof of one of the buildings. im terrified of heights, and i stepped out onto the roof, i had to sit down. lmao. anyhow, just some more snaps.

i dont remember the name of this building, but we werent alone in it. if you look REALLY closely, you can see a dude chilling on the very far left of this picture. some homeless dude sitting there. he is facing the right, so you can barely make out his right silhouette in the darkness. one of my buddies went up some steps, and was about to take a picture of a pile of crap in the corner. turns out it was some dude sleeping. needless to say it scared the shit out of them both. LOL. we came across 3 homeless dudes chillin in there. there was also a section fenced off with makeshift fence pieces and razor wire he obviously found somewhere. he even had a lock on the gate. had a bunch of pairs of shoes and a lawn chair in there. good idea IMO. you come across lots of people because, well, we're invading their homes. it really is an eye opener for sure.

you come across teh most random shit you could ever imagine when you go exploring. you'd be shocked as to how many shoes you find. i got lucky here, i found a fucking PAIR of shoes. ROFL.
but holy shit, you find everything. i one time stumbled into a room full of nothing but porno red door panels from some 80's car. or so it seemed. nothing but red door panels. this past time there was a room full of old busted ass TV's. another which a bum obviously lives in. had a mattress, about 30 pairs of ladies panties, and the panty adds from a bunch of newspaper ads. haha. my guess was that he stole panties from clothes lines in the summer time. haha. i didnt go into that fucking room. im sure that shit is coated with DNA. fucking disgusting. funny and interesting, but still fucking disgusting.

rooms like this are interesting as crap too. you'll find old hand tools in drawers still. reciepts and papers for the businesses. i like to go through the stuff and look for dates. saw a bunch of stuff in this building from the early 70's. ive seen paperwork and stuff in other buildings as old as the early 40's. really neat because alot of it is hand written, as opposed to printed.

early 1900's, there was a railroad company called the Grand Trunk Railroad here in detroit. this was a cold storage facility. the top floors with no windows are giant coolers and freezers. they are actually still filled with food that is over 60 years old i am told. i believe it though, the stench is worse than anything you can imagine. the building is located directly next to a big incinerator too, so it adds to the rankness of it all. we did find a room that was obviously a cooler. had the plastic flaps you walk through, much like you'll find in a cooler in a grocery store. lots and lots of rat shit, and foam insolation everywhere. a buddy of mine that went with was saying, about 3 years ago he had gone there, and the building was completely intact. there was a giant engine room for something, and all you could smell was natural gas. you know, the rotten eggs smell. anyhow, apparently it exploded, and took out half the building. its amazing how much stuff you will find cut. iron I beams that hold up the roof, cut and scrapped. you wont find any copper in any of these buildings, as its been scrapped long ago. just trash and stuff everywhere. sometimes you'll even find equipment that had been attempted to be moved, but it was still there. i'd imagine it was just too big and heavy to carry out of the building.

this was on the packard plant property (same place the superheroes were doing weird shit). apparently theres several sectioned off parts that people run 'businesses' out of. there were 2 MEAN sounding dogs inside here. i was tossing rocks at the door to get them all riled up, purely for my own entertainment. rofl. anyhow, as we started to drive away, a car came and opened up the door. the guy kept looking at us all weird. as he should, 5 white boys walking around a rough ass part of town with DSLR's. haha. anyhow, on our way out, we drove by it REALLY quickly. apparently its a chop shop.... there were all kinds of cars in there in pieces... newer cars. so we hauled ass out of there. there would be no chance to explain ourselves if someone saw us peering inside. obviously, the locks on the doors, and scary ass dogs are there for a reason. there was another one right across the way. it had a door bell that my buddy rang. the guy came out and said, 'wtf do you want?' clearly upset we were bothering him. so my buddy said, 'just curious, what do you guys do here?' 'we're in the coating business' he replied. my buddy said he did the same thing, and asked the same question a year ago. the guy said they were in the auto parts bizz that time, LOL.
its crazy though. the property is owned by a family that owned the packard auto company way back when i believe. these guys obviously dont pay rent. and somehow they've gotten electricity. most likely for free. another buddy that came with us, he does heating and cooling. he said its really easy to get free electricity in an old building like this when you know what you're doing. fucking amazing shit.

you see alot of baller ass tags everywhere. lots of shitty ones too. if you've seen any of my old threads, i have lots of pics of cool tags. the more i do this, and go back to the same places, its crazy. you see new shit all the time, in the same old places. gotta be careful though, another buddy almost ate it when he stepped on an empty paint can on the ground. LOL. but yeah, theres some dudes with skill around. i never got into the art of spray paint, but im sure its way way harder than it looks. theres alot of detail in some of the work. you see weird shit, and cool shit just the same.
