hey I have a sohc that has been turbo since january(07) , ir ran 6psi for about 6 months, 10 for a month, and then recently I ran ran 12psi for about almost a month and then I decided to see what it could do, I ran 15 for a couple of days, and then 20 psi, for about a day! the good thing is it took 20 without going kaboom, however, it does smoke now!(although not really bad just a little)
i did this so I would have a reason to build my spare motor and put it in.

anyways the question is what rings do you guys running a lot of boost use?

I found an engine kit http://www.importperformanceparts.net/ under the nissan HP engine kits , it comes with ross racing rings but ross says the rings are good for 16 psi. which is decent cuz the ka hauls azz with like 12 or more, 8-10 is ok but after that is really sweet!

I want to be able to run 20 psi and have it set there.

so again, just let me know what rings/pistons yall run, i'd appreciate it, thanks

is your turbo efficient at 20psi?

That has to be the most asinine thing I've ever heard.

Why couldn't you build the engine without killing the old one? Was there a magic spell cast on the engines that would only allow one to live at a time?

yeah man it is, turbonetics t3/t4, not the lil stage 1 either

please, I just asked what rings you use. I know what my setup is capable of and also weather or not you thing something I say is asinine doesnt concern me, because in that regard I don't care what anyone thinks of my choice of motor, steps in building my car, or anything other than what I asked,

thanks

You do realise that psi is only part of the volume equation? your cylinder psi is much higher. What is the effective CR you are running at 20psi?

who cares what he does or what he's running?!?!?

You need to look into running aftermarket pistons which will prob. come with correct rings. If you want to make decent/safe power you will need a set of (preferably forged) pistons with a lower CR. Decent sets sell between 4 and 5 hundred i believe

congrats man, b4 i had my sr i put a turbo on my SOHC and it went bye bye at like 14 psi lol..but 20 is cool man..good luck with everyone and if i were you i would call Tyler up at Underground Motorsports. super cool guy and will work out a package deal for the bottom end at a great price. tell him Evan from Jersey told you to call and he'll hook u up big time.

one could argue that the ringlands on the ross pistons give out at 16 and not the rings themselves..

of course, thats the purpose of lower comp pistons and with a cam you can cram more air in the combustion chamber withot raising comp. too high

so, what pistons and rings do you use?

thanks bro, a lot of people dont believe me , accept the few that have ridden with me, yeah I've seen tons of people say that 12 is all the head gasket could take and 14 the motor would be shot, but shoot I think it shows how tough the Truck motor is!

thanks for the advice,
trent

hahahaha, Magic spells on engines rule

yeah I was actually going to buy a good set of rings and a metal head gasket to put in just to try it out and see how durable the rods, bearings, pistons and so on were, which I think with the ross rings and good head gasket the motor will take 14-15 psi all day long, just from my Ka experience.

anyways, the whole thing is gonna get built right,

still im curious what rings/ pistons you big HP guys are running, doesnt matter turbo, nitrous, whatever. just trying to get a general consensus of what the good stuff is. also feel free to list anyother parts like main bearings/ wristpins, anything

thanks for the feed back guys
