I'm getting ready to swap a sr20 into my 96' s14, and I'm wanting some general opinions on whether the VTC and the t28 in the s14sr is worth it, or would I be better off with a blacktop s13 sr and spending the extra money on turbo upgrades an other stuff. Car will be a daily driver with occasional track time. Thanks for your opinion.

i would definatly spend the extra bit of cash and get the s14 sr. i think with the vtc and t28 it is worth the extra money in the long run.

no doubt I need A/C it's hot like crazy here, I had to repair my A/C on the KA a while back, two weeks without AC was insane! is there a problem with keeping AC? I thought the KA compressor would work? Just needed to bolt up the bracket?

it depends what your budget allows for. If you have the money get the s14 sr, you will be happier with it in the long run. I dont think the extra cost is in the VTC. Its more in the turbo. A s14 turbo is worth about 400-500 dollars where a s13 turbo is worth about 100-150 dollars. So thats where the extra cost comes in.
The good thing about s13 engines are the low cost, parts availability, and replacement cost is low also. Not say that s14 parts are hard to find, just that s13 stuff is everywhere and cheap also.

S14 into S14 because its so simple first off *harness*
your going to need to get custom lines if you want a/c anyways
VTC is great.
Nissan realized their mistake with the t25 so thats why they gave you a t28... which isnt bad for a while
less likely to be abused motor (younger than a s13 of course but I did say LESS LIKELY)
dont skimp out, do it correctly, get the s14 sr

Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate all the opinions and experience, you said that I'll need custom AC lines? I read on the Heavy throttle FAQ and if I remember the lines bolt right up, maybe a little off but not any custom work... is this info incorrect?

For the most part they are a little off, most like to get new lines simply to fit the new setup as they wish/please
I have seen both people complain about stock KA lines and some getting them to work with no problem. Its been a while since I have seen a A/C 240 that isnt KA powered.
My s14SR used the same A/C lines with KA compressor until the bolt broke holding the L/P hose to the compressor. Soon as I get a new bolt back on it will continue to work like new. The only difference I noticed is the fan speed but cools the same.

Considering the first year of the S14 was 1993 an S14 SR is not always newer than a 180. All the reasons of getting an S14 SR is going to be replaced anyways so why fork out the extra cash?
T28, getting replaced
VTC, gay and adjustable gears won't let you use it anyways.

yeah blacktop s13's are just as new as some s14's or newer... my comparison was with redtops but I should have been specific...
T28... yeah you will replace it later on but for some of us 3k on a motor is already a strain for out wallet
VTC Gay? Cant adjust the gears!?!?!? I dont know what your talking about but there are some published dyno's/articles out there that show when used properly it can adjust your power curve to be more responsive (because power on sets earlier).... but yeah not everyone sets up their car for that, just a nice option to learn/mess with.
I wish I could be like you koopa :jerkit:

I'm saying adjustable cam gears won't let you use VTC. So once you dip into cams that goes out the window too.
I didn't notice any difference going from VTC to Tomei 270's and not having VTC.
I'd just get a redtop, rebuild it properly and build it from there but what do I know? I've never touched an SR before....
CMKAC - Drive an SR with some balls and I'm sure you'll change your mind on gay shit like VTC and don't try to make some kind of retort stating that said SR with balls might have a better balanced power curve with VTC because there's no helping some turbo's.
