So Ive got valve tick. I dont know why, but I had it last time before an oil change. It hasnt been 3000 miles yet. As soon as I change the oil, Itll go away. Im using 15w-50 mobil one full synthetic. Should I be using a Different oil? Stock sr btw. Yes I searched, yes From my findings, I am running the right weight. yes I also have 3.7 quarts

i feel as if you may have a bad lifter,

Do you ever check your final oil level before you go ahead and change it?
You might just have be burning/leaking oil; not having enough by the end of the 3000miles.

Im anal about my car. I check everything like everynight. Kinda redic I know, but my goal is to squeez every ounce of power out of a completly stock sr, without upping boost, in otherwords, I never let the oil level go low.
but yea that would have been a plausible solution

also, in reference to valve tick, I know it might be a bad lifter, but it goes away completely when i chage the oil. Im more wondering about my oil. Is that the right weight?

:keke: Well the SR is supposed to be anal itself when it comes to the oil it likes, but depending on the mileage you could always up the weight. Granted the motor isn't really built with the intention of staying up and running past 100K, you could still treat it like a USDM motor. (considering they last 100K :keke:)

But you are already running a 50wt oil, you won't get much heavier than that.

maybe you popped shim

if you dont knwo what a shim is on your engine I would sell your car.

I hope its a KA

I would never use oil that heavy on an sr with stock bearing clearences.

run 10w30 in all nissans older than 98

you can't go wrong.

If it came from the factory on organic run it on organic.

redline or neo on container sr or stock ka motors is fanboy bullshit

that oil is way to heavy for the hydraulic lash adjusters! As stated previously, stick with 10w-30 unless your in temps less than 30 degrees F. In the winter i switch to 5w-30. all clearances are fairly tight in the SR so unless you have excessive wear, there will be no benefit in running thick oil, thick oil is also harder to flow which saps power by making the oil pump work harder. Also you are causing windage loses by using that much oil. stick with the factory reccomendation.

Yup, exactly what I'm ('ll) be doing. Running 10w-30 through spring, summer, and fall, then will be switching over to 5w-30 for the cold Michigan temps.

Okay so it wasn't just me who thought that this was the wrong oil viscosity to use.

Stick with OEM specs = 10w-30 or 5w-30 if below 0 degrees F.

I'm curious, where did you get the info that said 15w-50 is the right oil for an SR?

on here I think, talking about hotter regions of the country. I moved to AZ and thats when I switched to the 15w50. Im running 30 now though.
